What is Maine CASA?

Maine CASA provides volunteer advocates for children who are involved in child protection cases in court. Only a judge may appoint a CASA to a case.

Mission & Vision

The Maine Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Program recruits, screens, trains, and oversees community volunteers to serve as guardians ad litem (GALs) who advocate for the best interests of children involved in Title 22 child welfare cases.

What We Do

Maine CASA staff members provide advice, clarity, guidance, and support to CASA volunteers.

Maine Rules for GALs

In Maine, CASA volunteers are guardians ad litem. CASA guardians ad litem have the same role and responsibilities as attorney guardians ad litem.

Reporting Abuse

To report child abuse or neglect - call 1-800-452-1999 deaf/hard of hearing – call 711. This line is staffed 24-hours a day, 7-days a week.
