  • Royals' Bobby Witt: Reaches 20-homer mark

Witt went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, a walk, two runs and two RBI in Thursday's 7-1 victory over Detroit.

Witt did most of his damage late in the contest, belting a solo homer in the eighth inning and adding a run-scoring double in the ninth. The long ball was Witt's 20th of the campaign, a mark he's now reached in each of his first three big-league seasons. Witt also has 24 thefts, making him one of four major-leaguers to reach the 20-20 mark thus far.

  • Royals' Maikel Garcia: Notches two thefts in victory

Garcia went 1-for-5 with a run and two stolen bases in a 7-1 win against the Tigers on Thursday.

Garcia made the most of his lone trip on the basepaths, following his first-inning single with a pair of thefts before coming home to score. The infielder is up to 27 stolen bases on the campaign, sixth-most in the majors. Garcia is batting just .237 this season, but he's been much better than that for nearly a month, hitting .302 over 63 at-bats since July 7.

  • Royals' Vinnie Pasquantino: Slugs two homers Thursday

Pasquantino went 2-for-5 with a pair of home runs and four RBI in a 7-1 win against the Tigers on Thursday.

Pasquantino drove in more than half of the Royals' runs in the victory, belting a three-run shot in the first inning and a solo blast in the eighth. The first baseman had gone 17 contests without homering before he went deep Wednesday, and he's now swatted three long balls over his past two games. Pasquantino also has seven multi-hit performance over his past 11 contests and is slashing .413/.438/.652 with 13 RBI during that span.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Excellent in 13th victory

Lugo (13-5) earned the win over Detroit on Thursday, allowing one run on four hits and one walk while striking out three batters over eight innings.

Lugo didn't allow any extra-base hits and gave up just a fourth-inning run en route to his 13th victory of the campaign. He's now tied with Atlanta's Chris Sale and Baltimore's Grayson Rodriguez for the league lead in that category. Lugo has alternated good and poor starts of late -- he yielded five runs over five frames July 13 and six runs over 6.1 innings July 27, but in between was a one-run complete-game performance versus the White Sox on July 21.

  • Royals' Jonathan Bowlan: Dispatched to Triple-A

The Royals optioned Bowlan to Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.

He was held hitless just once in July. His fantastic month has him batting .349 on the year, 17 points ahead of Cleveland's Steven Kwan for the best average in the majors. • Royals' Brady Singer: Sharp in eighth win

Singer (8-6) picked up the win Wednesday, giving up three runs on six hits over seven innings in a 10-3 rout of the White Sox. He struck out four without walking a batter.

The right-hander gave up three straight hits to lead off the bottom of the second inning, with all three Chicago runners eventually coming around to score, but otherwise Singer held the opposition in check as he collected his third straight win and fourth in his last five outings. The 27-year-old has allowed three runs or fewer in eight of his last nine starts, posting a 2.33 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 43:15 K:BB through 54 innings over that stretch. Singer will look to extend his win streak in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come early next week at home against the Red Sox.

  • Royals' Michael Lorenzen: Joining rotation Saturday

Royals manager Matt Quatraro said Wednesday that Lorenzen will start Saturday's game in Detroit, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

After acquiring Lorenzen from the Rangers on Monday, the Royals didn't immediately decide whether the right-hander would slot into the rotation or fill a versatile multi-inning role out of the bullpen. Two days later, the team has made its intentions known with Lorenzen, who will step in as the Royals' new No. 5 starter in place of Alec Marsh, who was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday. Lorenzen had started in all but one of his 19 appearances with the Rangers prior to the trade, logging a 3.81 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 75:48 K:BB in 101.2 innings.

  • Royals' Alec Marsh: Moved down to minors

The Royals optioned Marsh to Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.

Marsh will lose his spot in the rotation and on the 26-man active roster after the Royals acquired Michael Lorenzen from the Rangers earlier this week and settled on him as their new No. 5 starter. The Royals have a doubleheader on Aug. 26 in Cleveland, so Marsh will be a candidate to return that day, if he's not needed before then. While Marsh is down in the minors, Royals manager Matt Quatraro said that the right-hander will scale back his workload and throw around 40-to-60 pitches in his outings at Omaha, per Anne Rogers of MLB.com.

Massey is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the White Sox.
