My husband, Marcus, and I used to be so in love. But now, after ten years together, we barely talk. I've seen so many of our friends marriages end in divorce, and I'm prepared to do whatever it takes to stop that from happening to us. And then I meet Erin. She tells me all about her perfect marriage to Kieran, and I'm shocked when she reveals the secret to their marital bliss they have an open marriage. My heart starts to race as I consider it for me and Marcus. Could we really do this?

One peaceful morning, in the small, Puget Sound town of Point Orchards, the lifeless body of Dr. Erin Landry is found hanging from a tree on the property of prodigal son and failed writer, Elijah Leith. His girlfriend Ali’s piercing scream as she is taken. With no trace of Ali or the car, a cloud of suspicion hangs over Ryan. But with no proof and a good lawyer, he’s never charged, though that doesn’t matter to the podcasters and internet trolls. Now, Ryan has changed his last name, and entered law school. It was 1970 in a defeated Rhode Island fishing town. Vietnam and Nixon dominated the national news. Both the near and distant future looked bleak. But they were five inseparable high school friends with something incredible in common: an unwavering resolve to look after each other no matter what hell life threw at them. And they were on a mission. The plan was simple: Go off the grid before they turned 18 to avoid the draft. They’d sell some grass, stack some cash, then head west and start a commune. What could possibly go wrong?

But Rachel reassures me that being near Luna helps fill the gaping hole of her grief, just a little. So when Luna is snatched from her bed in the middle of the night, it is Rachel who holds me tightly. She looks at the blue and white police tape crisscrossing my little girl’s bedroom and promises me they will find Luna.

The plot twists!
I liked how unexpected the whole story was from start to finish. I didn’t want it to end because I enjoyed the first person point of view of all the characters.

Big Little Lies Meets Serial Killer Meets AI
This was a 5-star listen all the way! You’ll feel like you’re right there in the Maldives, experiencing the action in real time with these women. I felt like it was a blend of Big Little Lies, a serial killer mystery, and AI. I devoured this Audible in just a couple of days, always eager to get back to it. If you’re a fan of mystery, thriller, or suspense (hundreds in my library), you’ll love piecing together the twists from the subtle clues dropped early on. Getting to know these characters was a joy, and you’ll find yourself wanting to be friends with some of them. The narration was spot-on for each character, and now I’m ready to book a trip to the Maldives. I always feel like when I finish a good book with great characters, it’s a little like a breakup. I am sad it’s over. This one definitely felt like that for me. Like I said there are many clues from the beginning to figuring out the twist but if not, LISTEN to the D-N-A, D-N-A, D-N-A.
