JohnnyBot is currently inactive. It will not be activated until there has been community discussion.
JohnnyBot is owned by User:Borofkin.
What it does
JohnnyBot extracts sources from Google News and creates a shell article. The idea is that the shell article can then be developed by contributors into a real article and published.
This bot is not intended as a replacement for human contributors, just a way of streamlining the creation of synthesis articles, and possibly an entry point for new contributors to learn about writing articles.
How it works
JohnnyBot responds to messages left on his talk page. A message such as:
- Hi JohnnyBot... please create an article about "Karadzic arrest" - ~~~~
Will cause JohnnyBot to search on Google News for "Karadzic arrest" and then generate a shell article with sources under his user page. Note that when leaving a message on JohnnyBot's talk page, you must include a section header and the message must be signed.
Sample pages
These pages were generated on User:Borofkin's test wiki and then copied to Wikinews:
The article title is the query used on Google News. The bot is currently set to include 5 sources, however this can be modified. Articles generated by a request to JohnnyBot are intended to be developed by Wikinews contributors and moved to the main namespace.
