Yellowstone may not be getting put out to pasture after all. Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount Network hit, which was cancelled following its Season 5A finale back in May 2023, will instead be continuing on with Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser taking over from Kevin Costner as the series’ leads, Puck reports.
According to the industry newsletter, OG cast members Reilly and Hauser, who were rumored (but never confirmed) to be in talks to reprise their roles of newlyweds Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler on spinoff The Madison, are closing deals to remain with the mothership. TVLine has reached out to Paramount Network for comment.
Confused? It’s understandable. For almost a year, Yellowstone’s Season 5B (which kicks off on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 8/7c), has been touted by the network as the neo-Western’s “final installment.” In March of 2024, Reilly played her cards close to the vest about what might come next. “There are discussions, you know. Don’t believe everything you read. It’s just nonsense.”
Three months later, Costner confirmed on social media that “I’m not going to be able to continue, Season 5B or into the future.”
You’ll recall that way back in January 2023, the Season 5A finale (recapped here) left Costner’s John plotting with Beth to rub out Jamie, the treacherous black sheep of the family. At the same time, Jamie was scheming with girlfriend Sarah to have a fatal accident befall his father and sister.
Are you stoked to hear that Yellowstone may not be headed for the train station after all? Would you saddle up to follow Beth and Rip’s story?
Love love love this show! Please don’t let it end🙏
SIGN ME UP!
I’m wondering about Luke Grimes, when they first announced some of the leads would possibly be going to a spin-off his name was also attached. I know they have alllll types of drama going on behind the scenes and things seem to change monthly but im hoping he continues also.
Imho, he’s barely a significant character. Im good either way
GOD, I HOPE THIS IS TRUE!!!
Honestly, the relationship between Beth and Rip was what kept me coming back for more along with some of the supporting characters not Costner’s John Dutton.
.
Pivoting the series to Beth and Rip excites me even more. Let’s go!!!!
True, there was no reason the show had to end with Costner leaving. Reilly and Hauser (and hopefully a few more cast members) are enough to fuel more seasons.
Definitely will watch.
Think the network needs to reign in Sheridan tbh. Too many shows/franchises and the stuff with him and Costner was ridiculous.
IF it can continue and maintain quality then great, but anyone not expecting a fully unhinged and unleashed Beth if they kill off John is gonna be shocked.
Also needs the ensemble to re-up too as the likes of Colby, Teeter & Ryan make the show
If only you had some of Sheridan’s talent. 👎👎
For me, the show started a downhill slide in season 4. The Beth character was over the top no longer had any depth. It was once my favorite show but the excessive focus on Beth at the expensive of other characters just didn’t work for me. To each his own.
Absolutely great news! Look forward to i and any more Taylor Sheridan can put out.
Confused, without a doubt. So does this mean that the Matthew McConaughey spin off isn’t happening?? Plus I just really need them to finish what they started with 1923 or whatever.
The Matthew McCounghahey spinoff never materialized, and they’re going with “The Madison” instead, with Michelle Pfeiffer.
“1923” is currently filming Season 2 in Austin.
Oh they finally started filming. That’s good news.
Yes, yes, yes!!!
I hope it’s good but it won’t be the same without Costner
Absolutely please piease don’t take Yellowstone off. Let the story continue.
Bring back Kayce and his family and the bunkhouse boys too.
Yes I will saddle up and follow RIP and Beth story
Kevin Costner needs to come back nobody can play his role like him I love him n everything he’s in n does n plays in
Have to see it to believe it because I was ALL IN. I’m really over Taylor Sheridan and his nonsense. I just want to see the second part of 1923.
Season 2 of “1923” is currently filming. 👍
Thanks. I really want to see that.😃
Thank goodness. My fav show!
Beth being in charge? Oh, hell yea!
I’m totally here for it!
Love the show. Hopefully the show will continue
Love this show, looking forward to all episodes!
Absolutely!! I wish Kevin Costner would have stayed, but I love the rest of the cast.
Yes, I’m glad they are going to continue the show. I wish Paramount would pick up Horizon also. I also can’t wait for Madison to start. These Western type of storylines are really great.
I know you can catch horizon on max so thee is a possibity that max could air the future movies or break it up into a limited series
I don’t think Paramount will be picking up anything from Costner… He tried to peddle Horizon to all the studios for a long time and no one wanted it, so he had to pay for most of it himself. It definitely says something about his current market value outside Yellowstone.
It was NOT Costner’s fault that he didn’t continue on Yellowstone. It’s that little megalomaniac, Taylor Sheridan. He ruined the whole show by trying to create too many spin offs at the same time and he’s so power hungry and controlling that he’s not paying attention to the bottom line. And, Reilly and Hauser are terrific but in my opinion, it was Costner who centered the show.
Sheridan was probably a big part of the problem by all reports but Costner was partially responsible. He strung fans along, suggesting he’d return on the condition of script approval… he knew he’d never get, nor should get. Sheridan was always the creative talent behind the actually scripts. Costner’s star power contributed greatly to the show’s success, but it would exist without Sheridan. Fans may not like to admit that, but it’s true.
Costner has an ugly history when it comes to feuding with directors and writers… Even his biggest fans can not call him “stabble or” reasobable” without a giggle. Maybe you are just not very aware of his previous fallouts with co-workers. That knowledge makes one look at him with a more realistic view.
I am so happy there might be a chance to revive Yellowstone, even if Costner will not be there, who cares, because of him is why Yellowstone is in the predicament it’s in, he was not the only actor on there, but he thinks he was, just leave, write him off for good, ang move on with the other good actors that made Yellowstone a hot. Thanks Taylor Sheridan for your help to keep Yellowstone alive.
There is SO MUCH MORE to what really happened than that. Costner was not trying to dictate what happened with Yellowstone. He made it clear to Taylor Sheridan and the network a minimum of a year before all of that happened, that he would need to schedule around his project, Horizon. I know this because I read his interviews back then when he was discussing it. It was legit a year before production even started on Horizon. Taylor Sheridan didn’t seem to care and even changed the Yellowstone production schedule in a way that made it harder for Costner to do Horizon. It was as if Sheridan was forcing him to choose Yellowstone over Horizon, but Horizon was his passion project that he was working, I believe writing, directing and producing, for years. And he gave them PLENTY of notice about it to coordinate the schedules! Sheridan and the network chose not to work with Costner and to try to force his hand. I don’t blame him for refusing to give up on his project! Doesn’t matter which is better. He tried to handle it the right way and they chose not to be cooperative. The rest after that, when it came to negotiations and money and what not, was all tainted by how they screwed him in the first place. If you ask me Sheridan screwed the fans in all of that BS because of how it turned out. He may be talented, but his ego is off the charts and needs to be reigned in. He could use a little humbling. Anyway, my point being, what happened was not Kevin Costner’s fault, it was Taylor Sheridan’s fault.
Totally agree it’s good news the show may go on! But please don’t blame Costner & thank Sheridan for the breakdown! Costner really tried to accommodate Yellowstone’s filming schedules, up to & including offering extra hours to continue filming Yellowstone. Yet, Sheridan really contributed to the breakdown by not having scripts ready when it came time to film. This was his personal failure and nothing to do with the writers’ strike.
It won’t be the same without Costner but carrying on with Beth & Rip & the rest of the really strong cast.
Costner has every right to pursue his passion project & Sheridan should have worked with him to make both work.
But yeah, you bring the popcorn and I will bring the beer! Can’t wait for the show to continue!!!
Absolutely
