Saw Unrated 20th Anniversary

"Live or die - make your choice!" Lionsgate has revealed a quick 30-second trailer for their upcoming 20th Anniversary re-release of the horror classic Saw. This is the one that started it all! The beginning of the franchise! The start of a whole new era of horror! Written by Leigh Whannell, and directed by James Wan, Saw originally debuted at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival before later opening in US theaters in October that year. Lionsgate bought the rights and created an entire franchise that has gone on for 10 movies already (Saw X last year). "20 years later and still ready for my close-up." Saw celebrates 20 years with an Unrated nationwide theatrical release October 20 & 23, with bonus content featuring actor Tobin Bell discussing Saw fandom + playing John Kramer. Saw stars Leigh Whannell, Cary Elwes, Danny Glover, Monica Potter, Michael Emerson, and Ken Leung. Did anyone know there even was an "Unrated" version of this film? Huh. The original is absolutely a classic and still considered one of the best in the series. Agreed?

Saw Unrated 20th Anniversary Poster

A man (Leigh Whannell) wakes up to find himself chained to a rusty pipe inside a decrepit subterranean chamber. Chained to the opposite side of the room is another bewildered captive, Dr. Lawrence Gordon (Cary Elwes). Between them is a dead man lying in a pool of blood, holding a .38 in his hand. Neither man knows why he has been abducted: but instructions left on a microcassette, order Dr. Gordon to kill Adam within the next eight hours. If he fails to do so – then both men will die, and Dr. Gordon's wife, Alison (Monica Parker), and his daughter will be killed. Recalling a recent murder investigation by a detective named Tapp (Danny Glover), Dr. Gordon realizes he and Adam are the next victims of a psychopathic genius known only as "Jigsaw". With only a few hours left to spare, they must unravel the elaborate puzzle of their fate in the midst of mounting terror. The killer has provided them with only a few clues and two handsaws – too weak to break their steel shackles, but still strong enough to cut through flesh & bone... 🪚

Saw is directed by the acclaimed Australian genre filmmaker James Wan, his second film at the time after Stygian (1998) and before going on to make Dead Silence (2007). The script is written by Leigh Whannell, from a story by James Wan and Leigh Whannell. Produced by Mark Burg, Gregg Hoffman, and Oren Koules. This first premiered at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival in the Midnight section. Lionsgate initially released Saw in theaters on October 29th, 2004. This new "Saw Unrated" 20th Anniversary re-release will screen for two nights only - October 20th & 23rd, 2024 - coming up this fall. For tickets + info visit Fathom Events.
