Sex and the City had many intense and incredibly interesting side characters. Some showed up in more than one episode, but most guest characters appeared just once. Even one-time appearances left a mark on the series and helped elevate the show. No guest star had more of an impact on Sex and the City fans than Lexi Featherston, though. The boisterous party girl appeared in just a single seaosn 6 episode and died in it. The character wasn’t made up. At least she wasn’t entirely fictitious. Lexi Featherston was based on a famous Manhattan club owner. The series also mentioned that real-life club she owned, but two seasons earlier than Lexi’s appearance.

Kathy Griffin just underwent a cosmetic procedure. In a new YouTube video, the 62-year-old comedian documented the process of getting her lips tattooed — and shared the initially frightening results.
In the clip, as Griffin walked into her esthetician’s office she told the camera that she was getting her eyebrows microbladed and her lips tattooed, the second of which is called blushing.
After undergoing the procedures, Griffin returned home to her husband, Randy Bick, who exclaimed, “S**!” upon seeing his wife’s lips. Through laughter Bick apologized for his initial reaction, as Griffin admitted, “It’s a little swollen.”
Next, Griffin showed off the work to her friend, Kristen Johnston, telling her, “I’m f**ked. Look at me.”
“What did you do?” Johnston questioned through laughter. “That’s not real.”
With that, fans finally got their first peek at Griffin’s lips, which were swollen and bright red. That...

Season 3 of "The Righteous Gemstones" isn't over quite yet, but HBO has already seen the light when it comes to the comedy series about a dysfunctional evangelical empire: The show has just been renewed for a fourth season. This shouldn't come as a huge surprise since the Danny McBride-created show is a raucous crowd-pleaser whose most recent season earned a 100% Rotten Tomatoes critics' score, but it's still exciting news for fans of the show. McBride's previous comedy series, "Vice Principals," was canceled after just two seasons, so it's great that HBO is letting "The Righteous Gemstones" spread its (very silly and stupid) word for at least one more season.
"The Righteous Gemstones" has actually hit higher viewership metrics in season 3 than in either of its earlier seasons, according to a press release from the network. Recent episodes are averaging 4.9 million viewers, making it McBride's most-watched show. For reference, "Succession,...

When the Gemstone children finally gain control of the Church, they discover running a holy house is more complicated than they ever imagined.

SAG-AFTRA members have now gotten a fuller look at what was on the negotiating table between their union and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers during more than a month of negotiations. The general response to the 12-page document, which was released late Monday night, was a mixture of surprise and disappointment over what the studios allegedly proposed or wouldn’t engage on, according to the union.
“My eyes popped out of my head when I read these deal points last night. Unreal,” Star Trek: Discovery star Wilson Cruz tweeted on Tuesday. The Righteous Gemstones actress Kristen Johnston, who picketed at Disney on Tuesday, also tweeted a brief but pointed response: “They actually hate us.”
Antonio Rael, who was on the Fox picket line in L.A., generally described the counterproposals as “insulting,” while fellow actor and union member Laura Martinez said, “They know we’re not going to agree to that.

Last month, HBO said goodbye to two of its signature series: “Succession,” a tale of three born billionaires vying to replace their aging patriarch; and “Barry,” an action comedy that unlocked new levels of ambition in its star-auteur, Bill Hader. Fans — and, one presumes, the network — were left with a vacuum the next seasons of “The White Lotus” and “House of the Dragon” are too far off to fill. Fortunately, a show that combines the best of both its erstwhile peers returns June 18 for a third season. “The Righteous Gemstones” remains consistent in its outrageous opulence and crude humor, but its latest chapter is unusually well timed.
Like “Succession,” “The Righteous Gemstones” follows a family poisoned by wealth and power at a crucial inflection point; like “Barry,” the show has a visual panache that defies our expectations for a half-hour comedy. But unlike either show, “The Righteous Gemstones” resists the...

Review: If you are still grieving the end of HBO’s marquee series about a filthy rich family vying for power and acting like assholes, rest assured that the cable network still has another series that fits that description. Danny McBride’s The Righteous Gemstones is back for a third season of hilarious hijinks of sacrilegious genius. While the second season of The Righteous Gemstones took things in a darker direction with insight into the youth of Eli Gemstone (John Goodman) with a downbeat ending, this new run is decidedly lighter with just as many dick jokes and brilliant insults. Led by the great Goodman, McBride, Edit Patterson, and Adam DeVine, The Righteous Gemstones’ third season...

“The Marvelous Mrs Maisel” is coming to an end as its fifth and final season streams on Amazon Prime Video. The successful comedy, which has bagged 20 Emmys to date including a Best Comedy Series win in 2018, follows Rachel Brosnahan‘s titular Miriam “Midge” Maisel who, after her husband leaves, pursues a career in stand-up comedy. A key character in this pursuit is Alex Borstein‘s Susie Myerson, who runs the Gaslight Café, where Midge first begins her stand-up career.
As Susie, Borstein delivers a no-holds-barred performance as she creates an unorthodox, straight-talking, hilarious character who becomes Midges’ manager later in the series. Critics think she is deserving of another Emmy nomination for this fifth and final season of “The Marvelous Mrs Maisel.” Among those singing her praises:

The NBC comedy Alf may have been something that could only happen in the ‘80s. Alf, short for Alien Life Form, was a puppet with the voice of creator Paul Fusco. His Melmac name was Gordon Shumway. Anyway, the idea of building a family sitcom around a stuffed character is something they probably wouldn’t do today. But, if you grew up on Alf or just discovered it on Peacock, Freevee, Shout TV, Crackle, Tubi, Vudu, Fubo or Roku Channel, there are a few other shows that deliver similarly oddball comedy.

For two decades, the SAG Awards all but ignored science fiction on TV. There were exceptions, of course — the ensembles of “3rd Rock From the Sun,” “The X-Files” and “Lost” were all nominated, and John Lithgow, Kristen Johnston, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson earned individual recognition. It wasn’t until the 2016 SAG Awards — when the first seasons of “Westworld” and “Stranger Things” both earned nominations for their ensembles and their respective stars Thandie Newton, Millie Bobby Brown and Winona Ryder — that the guild began to regularly consider sci-fi performances as worthy of recognition alongside other series.
Even then, however, nominated shows “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Lovecraft Country” and “Squid Game” sit on the fringes of what most people even consider to be science fiction. This year, the SAG Awards have the opportunity to nominate ensembles and performances on multiple shows that sit enthusiastically at sci-fi’s center.

On NBC's '90s sci-fi sitcom "3rd Rock from the Sun," four aliens land on Earth and assume human identities: Dick (John Lithgow), Sally (Kristen Johnson), Harry (French Stewart), and Tommy (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) pose as the Solomon family. Harry -- and I'm trying my best to soften the language here -- is the unintelligent one; he's literally supposed to be the stupidest person in the universe. And Stewart plays the role to perfection. He made the character even funnier by improvising one of Harry's most memorable mannerisms: his signature squint.
"3rd Rock from the Sun" was created by married writing duo Bonny and Terry Turner, who are known for penning the scripts to "The Brady Bunch Movie," "Coneheads," and "Wayne's World." Before that, they worked as staff writers on "Saturday Night Live." There, they met and developed a friendship with John Lithgow when he served as the special guest host in the '80s.

In the '90s, when shows like "ER," "Friends," and "Seinfeld" were the cash cows at NBC's, the outlandish sitcom "3rd Rock from the Sun" managed to attract a strong following during its six-season run on the network. Much of the show's success can be credited to its eagerness to try absolutely anything to make those watching at home spit out their after-dinner drinks. The show's spontaneity helped its leading man, John Lithgow, who had for years proclaimed he would never do a sitcom, dodge the common problem of breakout stars becoming trapped by their own success. But for his co-star French Stewart, the willingness to try anything came at a painful cost.
Stewart portrays Harry Solomon -- who, along with Lithgow's Dick Solomon, is part of a clan of four aliens that arrive on earth, assume human identities, and pose as an ordinary family. Their human bodies, however,...

It's common for any long-running television sitcom to eventually "jump the shark." But to do it in 3D? That takes some real moonstones, and the cast of "3rd Rock from the Sun" did it in sublime fashion.
After its first season, "3rd Rock from the Sun" was nominated for three Emmys, with star John Lithgow winning Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. By the show's second season, that number increased to eight nominations and five wins, including a nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series.
Despite the early success of the show, NBC decided that the final episode of season 2 needed to be big -- so big that they brought in film director Phil Joanou to direct 16 minutes of 3D sequences for a two-episode special entitled "A Nightmare on Dick Street, Parts I & II."
Although the show was known for its eccentric nature, the creative team didn't share NBC's enthusiasm over the idea.

When the creators of the '90s NBC sitcom "3rd Rock from the Sun" developed the idea about an alien family posing as humans on earth, they did so with the hopes of casting John Lithgow as its central protagonist, Dick Solomon. Lithgow got on board, breaking his own biggest rule in Hollywood, which was to never do a sitcom. "The thing I disliked about the idea of doing a sitcom was that they would – that's all you would be able to do," he told the Los Angeles Times. "People would only think of you that way. The way Carroll O'Connor could never escape Archie Bunker, as great a character actor as he was."
Some of Lithgow's peers may have something to say about this. Courtney Cox earned her fame from playing Monica Geller on the sitcom "Friends" while she simultaneously established herself as an iconic figure in the horror...

Perhaps Wayne Knight's most popular performance was his recurring role as Newman, a disgruntled mailman and arch-nemesis of the titular character on the NBC sitcom "Seinfeld." Newman's mysteriously bitter feud with Jerry and string of failed get-rich-quick schemes with Kramer (Michael Richards) serve up a lot of good laughs, even more than 20 years later.
As the beloved '90s show approached its final seasons, Knight found a second gig with another NBC sitcom, "3rd Rock from the Sun," which centers on four extraterrestrials who pose as humans in the fictional city of Rutherford, Ohio. Knight plays Don Orville, an incompetent police officer who has an on-again, off-again romance with one of the aliens, Sally Solomon (Kristen Johnston). Though not as revered as "Seinfeld" -- not many shows are, to be fair -- "3rd Rock from the Sun" had a successful six season run; Johnston and John Lithgow, who plays alien Dick Solomon,...

In a 2022 interview with Entertainment Weekly, John Lithgow revealed that his fans remember him most from the '90s NBC sitcom "3rd Rock from the Sun," on which his played the screwball Dick Solomon, the leader of a group of four extraterrestrials posing as a family of humans in the fictional city of Rutherford, Ohio. Even more than 20 years later, people on the street still ask him to do that popular alien salute. "[3rd Rock from the Sun] exploded my career," he said. "It exploded everybody's expectations of me. Nobody had seen me do that nonsense before, except for if they happened to remember the three times that I hosted "Saturday Night Live" way back in the '80s." With the help of his co-stars Kristen Johnston, French Stewart, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lithgow snagged three Emmy Awards during the show's six-season run.
But the "Dexter" villain initially focused his career on theater and film.

As sitcom premises go, Bonnie and Terry Turner's ultra-popular sci-fi sitcom "3rd Rock from the Sun" is first rate. The show follows a quartet of nonhumanoid space aliens from a distant galaxy -- played by John Lithgow, Kristen Johnson, French Stewart, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt -- who have disguised themselves as a human family in order to study our species up close. The show's comedy is derived from their utter cluelessness about the way the people in Ohio behave. "3rd Rock from the Sun" came in a long tradition of silly sci-fi sitcoms that included "Out of the World," "Alf," "Aliens in the Family," and "They Came from Outer Space." These were shows that took familiar American sitcom tropes, and skewered them by putting aliens in place of traditionally human characters.

Since the late 1940s, the television sitcom has been an implicit delivery system of social instruction. These shows helped set social norms and create stereotypes like the bumbling dad and the dutiful, ever-forgiving wife. Sitcoms are designed to make us feel better and forget our problems while laughing at other people for a bit. All the while, they're creating social mores and codes in society, like silent computer programs running in the background of our lives.

"If you care about him, you'll let him go, instead of blaming me for taking him." Quiver Distribution has unveiled the official trailer for an indie dramedy called Small Town Wisconsin, made by a Milwaukee local filmmaker named Niels Mueller. The film premiered back in 2020 at a few small film fests, and will be out on VOD to watch in June this summer. A father tries hard to be a good dad but alcoholism is his biggest deterrent. After losing a custody battle, perpetual teenager Wayne Stobierski steals his son away for one last father-son weekend to the city of their dreams - Milwaukee, Wisconsin (let's go!). Last year, Nicholas Hoult became a double Screen Actors Guild Award nominee when he was recognized as part of the cast of “The Great” as well as for his individual performance on the show. Now, he and his costars are back in the running for the comedy ensemble prize, but leading lady Elle Fanning is the one who has been singled out. Her portrayal of 18th century Russian empress Catherine the Great constitutes the first regular TV role on her two-decade-long acting resume. If she succeeds on this outing, she will be the first performer to win a solo SAG Award for playing a real person on a comedy series.
