Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band gave Asbury Park, New Jersey a show to remember with an epic headlining set at Sea.Hear.Now festival on Sunday night.
The show was a homecoming for Springsteen and the band, who got their start playing gigs in and around Asbury Park in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Appropriately, the first half of the Sea.Hear.Now setlist leaned heavily into material from Springsteen’s debut album, Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J., as well as other Jersey-centric songs. Notably, Springsteen performed tracks like “Blinded by the Light,” “Does This Bus Stop at 82nd Street?,” “Thundercrack,” and “4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)” for the first time in nearly a decade.

First things first: Girl You Know It’s True is not the cinematic equivalent of Milli Vanilli. Which is to say this biopic, on streaming and in some cinemas Friday, isn’t just mouthing the words and going through the motions as it tells the story of one of pop’s most infamous chapters. It’s actually more involving than any Milli Vanilli biopic really has a right to be (and currently boasts a 92 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes).
Certainly, some of the credit goes to producer Fab Morvan, one-half of the telegenic duo who shot to fame in 1989 with dance floor bangers like “Girl You Know It’s True” and “Blame It on the Rain,” who knows this story better than anyone.
The problem, of course, was that neither Morvan nor his best buddy Rob Pilatus did any of the singing on those songs, which were produced by German disco maven...

[Warning: The following post contains Major spoilers about Claim to Fame, Season 3 Episode 3, “A Wolf in Boy’s Clothing.”] Another contestant’s celebrity relative has been revealed on Claim to Fame, and it’s the one almost no one could see coming: As it turns out, Miguel’s full name is actually Raphael Curtis, and he is the nephew of Jamie Lee Curtis, and grandson of Tony Curtis and Christine Kaufmann. His celebrity relative was only identified after his team struggled in the telephone challenge, landing him in the guess-off, where he incorrectly guessed Dedrick’s celebrity relative was Little Richard. Before that, he’d successfully convinced everyone he was related to Antonio Banderas, leading to one member of the competition going home in last week’s double elimination. TV Insider caught up with Raphael Curtis aka Miguel to talk about his time on the season and to find out how he pulled off fooling the others for so long.

Jackie Shane was a musical trailblazer. Born in 1940s Nashville, she rose to fame in the Toronto music scene of the 1960s with her distinctive soulful voice and dynamic stage presence. However, just as her star seemed destined to shine even brighter, she vanished from the public eye in 1971. While rumors swirled about what may have become of her, the truth of those missing years remained a mystery.
All of that changed with the 2019 release of the documentary Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story. Directed by Michael Mabbott and Lucah Rosenberg-Lee, the film sets out to rediscover the story of this lost icon and shine new light on both her musical brilliance and pioneering journey. As one of soul and R&b’s first black transgender performers, Jackie broke barriers just by living her authentic self. The film brings her taletback to the forefront through unearthed interviews and pictures...

Chicago – One month after John Lennon made his iconic walk across Abbey Road for that classic album cover, he got a call from Canadian promoter Johnny Brower. Would Lennon play at a Toronto rock show? The answer to that question is told in the recently released rock doc “REVIVAL69: The Concert That Rocked the World.”

The Toronto Rock and Roll Revival (Aka Revival ’69) was held at Varsity Stadium on September 13th, 1969, and was filmed by famed rock documentarian D.A. Pennebaker. Johnny Brower was the young promoter, who had made a name for himself as The rock concert promoter/facilitator of that era for Canada. The planned concert revival “happening” – a bill of 1950s rockers like Little Richard, Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis, even adding Jim Morrison and The Doors and a young Alice Cooper – failed to generate ticket sales.

Actress Shelley Duvall has died. Duvall rose to fame in the 1970s as cinema’s new darling and muse to Director Robert Altman who cast her in many of his films.
Her first role was in Altman’s Brewster McCloud followed by McCabe & Mrs. Miller; Thieves Like Us; Three Women; Nashville and Buffalo Bill and the Indians, or Sitting Bull’s History Lesson.
She would go on to work with Woody Allen in Annie Hall and star in her most famous role as Wendy Torrance alongside Jack Nicholson in Stanley Kubrick’s iconic film The Shining.

Dawn Porter’s documentary about R&b icon Luther Vandross, “Luther: Never Too Much,” has been acquired by CNN Films in partnership with the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), IndieWire can reveal exclusively.
The documentary film, which first premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, will debut in 2025 first on television on CNN and OWN before it lands on Max.
The acquisition is encouraging news for CNN Films, which back in 2022 under former boss Chris Licht scaled back on its original documentary films. The brand moved away from acquisitions or commissioning projects and opted instead for newsy, quick turnaround docs produced in-house.
But CNN Films also partnered with Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios on this fall’s release of “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story,” so the two acquisitions, both from this year’s Sundance, is a positive step forward for the documentary brand.

No classic rock band is completely original. The Beach Boys’ sound was inspired by the vocal harmonies of another band. The Beach Boys’ Mike Love also revealed that the riff from “Fun, Fun, Fun” was inspired by one of the quintessential 1950s artists.
Mike Love said The Beach Boys were inspired by a college-themed band
During a 2020 interview with American Songwriter, Love discussed The Beach Boys’ famous harmonies. “I never took any voice lessons, per se,” he revealed. “But we always got together and sang harmonies. I would gravitate to the bass part and Carl [Wilson] would be above me and then Brian [Wilson] would be on the top.”
A certain barbershop group inspired the band. “We emulated The Four Freshmen,” Love said. “In fact, we learned a few of their arrangements. The Four Freshmen are just amazing artists and singers.” The Four Freshmen are mostly remembered for the college-themed hit “Graduation Day.

When it comes to iconic moments in rock history, one can include the Beatles’ rooftop concert, Jimi Hendrix’s literally incendiary set at the Monterey International Pop Festival, the 1973 Kool Herc party that helped launch hip-hop — and, of course, Alice Cooper and the chicken.
In September 1969, Cooper, not yet a household rock-weirdo name, was on the lineup of the Toronto Rock N Roll Revival, a festival that brought together two generations of rock stars. Pioneers like Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and Bo Diddley were on the bill, sharing the day-long...

Bob Dylan wrote a whole essay about the lyrics of Elvis Presley’s “Blue Suede Shoes.” He said that there is a threat of violence in the track’s lyrics. Interestingly, Johnny Cash said he helped inspire the song.
Bob Dylan loves Elvis Presley’s ‘Blue Suede Shoes’
In his 2022 book The Philosophy of Modern Song, the “Lay Lady Lay” singer Dylan wrote essays about several songs he loved. The songs included Elvis’ “Viva Las Vegas,” Little Richard’s “Long Tall Sally,” The Eagles’ “Witchy Woman,” and “Blue Suede Shoes.” It’s not surprising that Dylan gravitates toward classic rock!
Dylan had plenty to say about the meaning of “Blue Suede Shoes.” “Your shoes are your pride and joy, sacred and dear, your reason for living, and anyone who scrapes or bruises them is putting himself into jeopardy, accidentally or out of ignorance it doesn’t matter,” he wrote. “It...

Elvis Presley‘s “One Night” played into the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll‘s image as a sex symbol. Ironically, it was a rewrite of a song about sexual shame. Here’s a look at what a songwriter thought when Elvis changed his track.
The 1st version of Elvis Presley’s ‘One Night’ was inspired by a schoolteacher’s desires
Numerous Elvis hits were originally by other artists. The first singer to record “One Night” was rhythm and blues singer Smiley Lewis. The tune was penned by Dave Bartholomew, who also wrote Chuck Berry’s “My Ding-a-Ling.”
During a 1985 interview with the Los Angeles Times, Bartholomew discussed the inspiration behind “One Night.” “There was a very nice young lady who lived in Mobile, Alabama, a schoolteacher,” he recalled. “I used to go with her sister.
“At dinner one night, she mentioned — out of a clear blue sky — she had only...

‘Eno’ Review: A Compelling Portrait of Music Visionary Brian Eno Is Different Each Time You Watch It
Even next to David Bowie, with his alien regalia and mutating persona, it was Brian Eno who always seemed like the supreme spaceman of the pop-music universe. In 1972, when he first came onto the scene as the 24-year-old synthesizer wizard of Roxy Music, he sported a look that was pure glam, except that he somehow appeared even more baroque than the gender-bending rock stars of the time. They were Dionysian pansexual strutters, whereas Eno was his own unique thing: a delicate sci-fi gamine, a geek in thrift-shop drag. He wore light blue eye shadow and pinkish lipstick and jackets with huge shoulder pads that sprouted shiny black feathers, but his hair was thinning on top and long and wispy on the sides, and his pout gave him the look of a passionflower extraterrestrial.
As Eno began to create his solo albums of “ambient music”, he held onto his image as pop’s surreal harlequin eccentric.

The Beatles weren’t civil rights activists, but a soul singer said the group’s success was “a civil rights breakthrough.” He wasn’t the only one to say something like that. Here’s a look at how Black singers inspired the Fab Four.

The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus is a music studio on wheels that kids can use to get creative. It might surprise fans that one of Fergie’s biggest songs was recorded on that bus. The “Glamorous” singer sampled a classic rock icon for the tune in question. John himself was a big fan of that rock star.
1 of Fergie’s songs was recorded in Pittsburgh in the John Lennon Bus
Though she was a child actor who voiced Sally in Peanuts cartoons and a member of the girl group Wild Orchid, Fergie became famous when she joined the Black Eyed Peas. In 2006, she released her solo debut: The Dutchess.
The Black Eyed Peas’ Will.i.am co-produced the record. During a 2006 interview with MTV, he discussed the creation of The Dutchess. “We recorded in London,” he said. “We recorded in Beijing, we recorded in Australia, we recorded in … what’s another weird place?...

It’s almost impossible for John Stamos to imagine what would have happened to his life had he not met Beach Boys singer-guitarist Jeffrey Foskett 40 years ago. Foskett, who died Monday at 67, introduced Stamos to the Beach Boys in 1983, and helped him land a gig as a percussionist that continues to this day. When Stamos, who wrote about Foskett in his new memoir If You Would Have Told Me, hopped on Zoom with Rolling Stone on Monday evening, tears flowed throughout the entire conversation as he looked back on Foskett...

Rolling Stone once released a list of the 100 greatest musicians and deemed The Beatles artistically superior to Little Richard. The “Good Golly, Miss Molly” singer responded to the list in an essay. In a similar vein, Paul McCartney had a lot to say about Little Richard.
Little Richard said he led the way for The Beatles and The Rolling Stones
In 2010, Rolling Stone released their list of the 100 greatest artists. The Beatles topped the list, while Little Richard came in at No. 8. The “Tutti Frutti” singer wrote an essay for the list.
“I appreciate being picked one of the top 100 performers, but who is No. 1 and who is No. 2 doesn’t matter to me anymore,” he said. “Because it won’t be who I think it should be. The Rolling Stones started with me, but they’re going to always be in front of me. The Beatles started with me...

In a clip from the documentary, Little Richard: I Am Everything, we hear the young entertainer singing an early version of what would become his signature tune, “Tutti Frutti.” But surprise! The original lyrics were different than the ones we know today: “Tutti frutti, good booty/Tutti frutti, good booty!”
The song, as Richard wrote it, was about gay sex. In 1955, it would become the rock ‘n’ roll pioneer’s breakthrough hit, catapulting him to mainstream stardom — but only after the words were revised to something much more benign: “Tutti frutti, oh rooty/Tutti frutti, oh rooty!”
The sanitized lyrics symbolize the deep conflict between Little Richard’s public persona and his private life, and how he could hit the stage in all his authentic glory, then do an about-face when the spotlight became too white-hot and too controversial — especially in the deep South, at a time when the definition...

Shortly before Christmas 2016, Roger Waters visited his firstborn son, Harry, at his Santa Monica, California, home to deliver some rather bad news. Harry had spent the past 14 years playing keyboard and organ in his dad’s band, which included three extensive world tours, but Roger was making changes for his upcoming Us + Them tour. “I was fired,” Harry tells Rolling Stone. “It was pretty miserable.”
Harry claims he doesn’t know why his own father let him go. “I think he just wanted a change of blood, something new, something fresh,...

By the mid-1960s, The Beatles could shake stadiums with the sound of their screaming fans, but they didn’t have quite the same effect at an early audition. The band had the opportunity to audition in front of Larry Parnes, a manager and promoter. If the audition shook out the way they wanted, they could tour with musician Billy Fury. According to those in the audience, their performance wasn’t all that impressive, and The Beatles seemed to know it.
The Beatles didn’t seem thrilled with their performance at an audition
In 1960, Parnes teamed up with Allan Williams to find a group to tour with Fury. The Beatles were amongst the Liverpool groups to audition. This was one of their biggest opportunities to date, so they bought matching outfits and brought on a new drummer, Tommy Moore, to play with them.

Ending the year in signs is the hilarious, adventurous, sharp-tongued era of Sagittarius.
There’s truly nothing like them. They are quirky, mysterious and full of life. While they naturally grab the attention in the room, they feel most comfortable when they’re in their lonesome.
Sagittarius is the jack-of-trades sign; the sign that takes up space in every all industries — whether they be an actor, comedian or a bus driver — their versatility allows them to do it all. And that flexibility helps fuel their “I’ll try anything once” mindset. To them, what is life if you’re not living it to your fullest? The only thing you have to beware of is their slick mouth. Between Sagittarius, Virgo and Aries it’s hard to tell which sign is more brutally honest. Truly, to know Sagittarius is to love them. And if you don’t love…it doesn’t...

When The Beatles were in Hamburg, George Harrison found himself in a highly uncomfortable situation with a friend. Fellow musician Gene Vincent believed his tour manager was having an affair with his girlfriend and wanted to confront him. Harrison, who was still a teenager at the time, tagged along. Suddenly, he found himself in far deeper than he’d been expecting.

The Beatles met Vincent in Hamburg. While they liked the other musician, they found him a bit intimidating. John Lennon described him as a “wild guy,” and Paul McCartney said Vincent was always offering to knock him out.

The Beatles’ Ringo Starr covered sentimental songs after the Fab Four’s breakup. On his solo debut record. he recorded a quaint 1950s hit that he liked as a child. Quincy Jones had some negative things to say about Ringo’s cover.
The Beatles’ Ringo Starr revealed his memory of a song by The Four Aces
During a 2015 interview with Goldmine, Ringo was asked if he wore out any of his records as a child. “You know, as a kid, I didn’t really wear out any records,” he recalled. “I did buy The Four Aces’ ‘Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing.’ I mean, that’s a memory I have of early days.” Ringo covered “Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing” for his debut solo album, Sentimental Journey. The record features covers of many pre-rock ‘n’ roll musical standards.
However, Ringo wasn’t only interested in the musical stylings of The Four Aces.

John Lennon loved a hit song because it reminded him of Elvis Presley’s early music. Elvis later put his own spin on that track. He even spotlighted the writer of the song at one of his famous Las Vegas shows. At that show, Elvis made a false prediction.
John Lennon liked a song that reminded him of Elvis Presley but disliked Elvis’ full albums
During a 1975 interview with Rolling Stone, John was asked what music he listened to. “One of me favorites last year was ‘I Can Help,'” he said. “Billy Swan. A real old Elvis imitation kind of record. I like singles. I like jukebox music. That was the thing that turned me on. That’s the thing I like.” Considering there was a lot of nostalgia for Elvis’ early years during the 1970s, it’s likely “I Can Help” resonated with audiences because it reminded them...

While we were among many organizations and individuals to call out Wenner, he also had a number of supporters, citing his contributions to popular culture and to the world of music journalism.

Roy Orbison felt Elvis Presley‘s label wasn’t that great. He said the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll wasn’t a big fan of the music he made at that label. Orbison had a lot to say about his own experiences there. Regardless, the head of the label received an incredibly important honor the same night Elvis did.
Roy Orbison was on the same label as Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Carl Perkins
During a 1988 interview with Rolling Stone, Orbison discussed signing on producer Sam Phillip’s label, Sun Records. Sun Records boasted many early rock ‘n’ roll artists, the most famous being Elvis. “Well, Johnny Cash was on Sun Records — he was making unusual records,” Orbison remembered. “And Presley was there, and Carl Perkins. I was really impressed with that little chicken on the Sun label, because it represented something unique.” The chicken in question was on the label’s logo.
