Following rumors over the weekend, TV Line has confirmed that Hasbro's Power Rangers cinematic universe, which was expected to include both an original television show and new films, that had been in development at Netflix for the past two years is no longer moving forward at the streamer.
X user @Jinsakuu was the first to break the story, before the trade was able to obtain confirmation. In their initial tweet, the online scooper explained, "Due to the lack of staff and all the departments and responsibilities Hasbro had to take on. They’re lisencing Power Rangers Toys and Media off to other companies. As we seen with playmates who now own full control of the toys they’re doing the same with the show rights. Also they’re trying to be as hands off as possible and still own the franchises revenues. So good news maybe ??"

This post contains spoilers for "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always."
It should come as no surprise that "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always" is completely filled with nostalgia. Unlike most other anniversary specials for the beloved tokusatsu franchise, "Once & Always" does not feature several iterations of Power Rangers meeting, like "Forever Red" or "Once a Ranger." Instead, this is entirely focused on the first series in the franchise, the multi-season "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" and its two generations of Rangers.
The special focuses on the return of Rita Repulsa, who has got herself a new robot body and brings tragedy to the Rangers. When Repulsa's armies start attacking Rangers around the world, new heroes will rise and the Power Rangers will see their legacy and their abilities tested. "Once & Always" sees the return of Zack Taylor (Walter Jones) and Billy Cranston (David Yost) from the first team, as...

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once and Always will bring back the vile Rita Repulsa (Barbara Goodson), but her return is questionable based on how the character exited the franchise.

The “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” are reuniting with revenge over Rita Repulsa on their minds in Netflix’s 30th anniversary special.
“Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always,” which launches April 19 on Netflix, follows the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ quest for vengeance 30 years after Zordon formed the team. While in the midst of a global crisis, a previous threat resurfaces as Rita Repulsa sets her sights on the group.

The last Power Rangers film failed to resonate with audiences, but now the franchise will be getting another reboot with some significant changes. The lineup will be pretty different this time around and though no casting has been announced just yet, Paramount is reportedly interested in a black actress taking on the role of the Yellow Ranger.
Fans of the long-running franchise have seen the members of the team change several times, of course. Every new chapter calls for some fresh talent, and Paramount’s upcoming Power Rangers reboot will look to start over after the less than stellar 2017 film from Lionsgate.
For the upcoming reinvention, our sources – the same ones who said Jim Carrey’s Mask will cameo in Space Jam 2 and a new Scream movie is in the works, both of which are now confirmed – tell us that Paramount is reportedly eyeing a black actress to play the Yellow Ranger.
