The always-dynamic director Jack Hill goes teen-gang wild with this absolutely crazy take on Jd pictures, pitched three octaves higher than normal exploitation drama. All the nasty-rasty thrills are here, from an episode of Wip sadism to brutal misogyny to a gang skirmish fought on a roller skating rink. What began as one of those exploitation cheapies with three women, comes alive with the dynamic Robbie Lee, Joanne Nail and Monica Gayle — even with all the sexist cruelty on view, the no-limits performances feel liberating, energizing. Hill’s gang epic is so stylized, it’s almost a fantasy. With some good interview and analysis extras.

Decades after the Chipmunks made their small-screen debut on CBS in 1961, Alvin, Simon and Theodore are still leaving an indelible mark on the television landscape and adhering to creator Ross Bagdasarian Sr.’s original vision.
“It was important to my dad that there be a show that was, hopefully, entertaining, but he wanted it to be non-violent,” says Bagdasarian’s son Ross Jr., co-owner of Bagdasarian Prods.
Designed to be a gentler alternative to the Looney Tunes, “The Alvin Show” set the basic look and personas of the Chipmunks, as well as a tone that would prove to be timeless. But over the years, the design of the characters and types of stories told have been modernized to better speak to the current audience.
Today’s “Alvin and the Chipmunks,” which launched on Nickelodeon in 2015, tells tales of bullying, technology and not getting along with siblings. It also relies heavily on the Chipettes,...

After 60 years, Alvin and the Chipmunks are, as their catchy TV theme song perpetually promises, coming on stronger than ever before.
Late last year, the harmonizing rodents with a penchant for hula hoops and harmonicas celebrated their sixth decade since their breakout hit “The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late)” — a novelty tune crafted by the inventive music producer Ross Bagdasarian Sr. — put them on the pop culture map in 1958. Over the years the Chipmunks, as with the greatest pop artists, would successfully reinvent themselves — as animated TV characters, movie stars and masters of virtually every musical genre.
That enviable track record has finally earned a star on the Walk of Fame for Alvin, Simon and Theodore, something that resonates deeply for Ross Bagdasarian Jr. and his wife, Janice Karman, the keepers of the Chipmunks’ creative flame since Bagdasarian Sr.’s death in 1972.

Walt Becker directed the screenplay by Adam Sztkiel. Janice Karman and Ross Bagdasarian produced. Bella Thorne and Kimberly Williams-Paisley also star.

The highlight of the event was the must-see film of 2015 – Ridley Scott’s The Martian.
During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, Nasa and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. It took a few years and was very expensive to defend, but 20th Century Fox has largely come out on top in a lengthy battle over the Alvin and the Chipmunks property. When Bagdasarian Prods., the family company that licensed the Chipmunk characters, sued Fox in 2010, an incredible amount of money was on the line. A year earlier, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel came out and grossed more than $443 million in worldwide box office. The Bagdasarians demanded half of the profits. The lawsuit would feature several claims. List THR Reveals Hollywood's 100 Favorite Films Janice Karman, wife

Alvin and his musical rodent brothers are back. Nickelodeon has picked up two seasons of Alvinnn!!! and The Chipmunks with a commitment for 104 episodes. It will roll it out across the world in early 2015.
Created by Janice Karman, the annimated series is produced by Bagdasarian Productions and OuiDO! Productions.
Jules Borkent, Nickelodeon’s senior VP of global acquisitions and international programming, said, “The new franchise will feature the fun-filled adventures of the Chipmunks and complement Nickelodeon’s existing line-up of funny, smart and entertaining kids’ content airing internationally.”
The new show marks the return of Alvin and the Chipmunks to series television after 20 years away. It will follow the mis-adventures of Alvin, Theodore, Simon and the female Chipettes. Each episode will feature an original song, produced by Bagdasarian.

The 52-episodes show from husband-wife producing team of Ross Bagdasarian and Janice Karman will be presented for the first time in CGI and feature the Chipettes with all new, original songs. Hoping for an Alvin and the Chipmunks-free 2015? Well, tough. In accordance with ancient prophecy (and Cartoon Brew), 2015 will see the debut of a brand new CG TV show featuring the brothers Alvin, Simon, and Theodore, currently known by the working title Alvinnn!!! and The Chipmunks.
Seeing a gap in the market where more Chipmunk hi-jinks could be implausibly squeezed, show-creators Ross Bagdasarian Jr. and his wife Janice Karman have been working on the TV show since 2010, when it was known as The Chipmunks and Chipettes. If Alvinnn!!! and The Chipmunks follows the same lines as predecessor The Chipmunks and Chipettes, it would seem that there will be a much-needed expansion of the cast, leading to interesting love triangles, botched drug deals, and maybe a murder or two.
Will 2015 be the year of the TV’s first gay chipmunk?

Two days after David Cross's casual "Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked" smackdown, he took to his Facebook page to apologize.
The star appeared on "Conan" Monday night and explained that filming the third "Chipmunk" movie was "the most miserable experience I've ever had in my professional life." Cross then made an anti-semitic jab at one of the film's producers, describing her as "the personification of what people think about when they think negatively about Jews." (Talk about a banger in the mouth!)
Tail between his legs, Cross issued an apology to "Chipwrecked" producers Janice Karman and Ross Bagdasarian, Jr. -- who, incidentally, is the son of the "Alvin and the Chipmunks" creator.
"To any and all who are aware of my 'Conan' appearance in which I disparaged a particular producer on the movie 'Alvin and the Chipmunks - Chipwrecked,' I would like to clarify the following; the...

This morning at the Grauman's Chinese Theater, Alvin, Theodore and Simon from Alvin and the Chipmunks got their paws and feet put in the cement to mark their place in Hollywood history. Jason Lee, who plays Dave Seville in the Alvin & the Chipmunks, talked to KidsPickFlicks and told me that Alvin and the Chipmunks is his movie family, since he's been working with them for five years.
I also spoke with Janice Bagdasarian Karman and Ross Bagdasarian who, with their dad, have been working on Alvin and the Chipmunks for 50 years and were excited for them to be recognized with other great stars.
Three hundred kids wearing "A" shirts screamed all they could for Alvin and the Chipmunks. Alvin, Theodore and Simon got cement all over their belly fur during the ceremony and they went to go clean off their paws.

Janice Karman, writer and daughter-in-law of the characters' late creator, claims 20th Century Fox failed to pay her for work on the screenplay for Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel
Last year's Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel may have had critics chirping with horror, but it was one of the biggest blockbusters of 2009, with a haul of $442m (£291m) worldwide. Now, a firm that represents the family of the series' creator is suing 20th Century Fox for half of all profits from the film, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
In a lawsuit filed at the Us district court in Los Angeles, Bagdasarian Productions says Fox failed to recompense its writer Janice Karman, daughter-in-law of Chipmunks' late creator Ross Bagdasarian, for substantial work she carried out on the screenplay of the second film in the series. Lawyers also claim that the studio breached an agreement to fully exploit commercial tie-ins for the brand.

20th Century Fox is being sued over Alvin & The Chipmunks: The Squeakuel. The company run by the chipmunks' creator is suing the studio over numerous issues, in the hope of nabbing half the profits from the film. Bagdasrian Prods have launched a lawsuit that claims Janice Karman (conveniently, the daughter-in-law of the creator) wrote a script for the movie, which was then rewritten and eventually refined by Karman upon a request from Fox.

Oh, and half of all profits from the hugely successful film.Bagdasarian Prods, run by the family of the critters’ creator, Ross Bagdasarian, is suing 20th Century Fox over multiple issues, most pointedly that of screenplay work by Janice Karman (who happens to be married to Ross Bagdasarian Jr) and the question of merchandising. The family’s lawsuit claims that Karman wrote a script for the movie, which was then re-written, before Fox brought her in to polish the final version. She’s pointing to several scenes that prove she’s co-owner of the final script and therefore entitled to half of all the profits (not sure quite how they figure that given the usual treatment of writers in Hollywood, but then she is part of the family that owns the rights).Plus,...

Fox Bosses Sued Over Chipmunks Profits
Alvin And The Chipmunks follow-up The Squeakquel is at the centre of a legal battle - the family which owns the rights to the franchise is demanding bosses at 20th Century Fox hand over half the profits from the film.
Executives at Bagdasarian Productions, along with writer Janice Karman, allege "substantial copyrighted" portions of a screenplay Karman wrote were used in last year's Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel without permission.
The lawsuit claims Karman, who is married to the son of late Chipmunks creator Ross Bagdasarian, Sr., penned a screenplay for the film and was offered a compensation fee from the studio, which she turned down as insufficient.
The family's complaint reads: "Karman's provision of her screenplay writings to Fox was conditioned upon the payment of adequate compensation for those writings and her attendant services, which Karman never received."
But Fox studio executives are planning to battle the suit, calling it "completely without merit".
A statement from Fox adds, "We look forward to resolving our differences and, in the meantime, we are continuing to move forward with this franchise."
The plaintiffs want Karman to be made a co-owner of the script, and argue she should receive half of all profits "attributable to The Squeakquel's screenplay". The animated movie raked in more than $442 million (£295 million) at the worldwide box office, reports Reuters.

Since they were created in 1958 by actor/songwriter Ross Bagdasarian, Sr, Alvin and the Chipmunks have endured as a beloved mainstay of pop culture. And even after decades of record sales and a hit Saturday morning cartoon in the '80s, the anthropomorphic trio of Alvin, Simon, and Theodore show no signs of slowing down. 50 years after their inception, the characters are as popular as ever: their 2007 foray into live action film impressively hauled in over $360 million worldwide, and their 2009 follow-up Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, which re-introduced the Chipmunks' female counterparts, the Chipettes, and thrust the furry brothers into the unfamiliar landscape of high school, eclipsed that total by surpassing $440 million.

An Education: "The dilemma at the center of Lone Scherfig's British coming-of-age drama, An Education (2009), is quite simple. Jenny (Carey Mulligan) is an attractive, incredibly smart, and witty 16-year-old growing up in a drab suburb of London in 1961. Judging from the lifestyles of the female role models around her, her future can be narrowed down to two options: housewife or schoolmarm. In order to meet the requirements of one of those employment opportunities, Jenny's caring but overly concerned parents (Alfred Molina and Cara Seymour) and school teacher (Olivia Williams) forcefully suggest an education at Oxford. In order to market herself as a valuable candidate, Jenny must ace English, Latin, French (hence the title), and show cultural breadth (her "hobby" is the cello). Yet, if all goes according to plan, Jenny will meet a similarly cultured wealthy man and will no longer need to do any of those things.

If Alvin and the Chipmunks was, as I stated in 2007, "inevitable," then its $217 million domestic gross ($360 million worldwide) firmly established that a sequel (which I refuse to refer to by its "proper" name) was as unavoidable as catching rigor mortis from tap dancing in heavy traffic. In this second feature film, the three rodents of doom--Alvin (Justin Long), Simon (Matthew Gray Gubler), and Theodore (Jesse McCartney)--are back to trip the light fantastic upon our own rotting corpses. This time around, though, Ross Bagdasarian Jr. is not merely content to drag his father's creations into CGI hell, but also enlists the Chipettes (created by Janice Karman) to up the annoyance factor. Parents will be relieved to know that, in the sequel, nobody eats anyone else's poop, but there is a fetching dutch oven joke and plenty of butt references to feed those with bodily function fetishes. However, the undeniable "zip...

Zachary Levi, star of the NBC action comedy series "Chuck," has been cast opposite the computer-generated singing rodents of "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel."
Betty Thomas is directing the follow-up to Fox 2000 and Regency's 2007 hit "Alvin and the Chipmunks," which grossed $217 million in North America. Ross Bagdasarian Jr. and Janice Karman are producing, Karen Rosenfelt is executive producing, and Erin Siminoff is overseeing for Fox 2000.
Levi will play the cousin of Jason Lee's character and gets tangled up with the tiny animated threesome. Justin Long, Matthew Gray Gubler and Jesse McCartney again will provide the chipmunks' voices.
Also new to the franchise will be the Chipmunks' rivals, the Chipettes -- Brittany, Jeanette and Eleanor -- who were introduced in the 1980s animated TV series.
Levi, repped by Endeavor and Hyler Management, also has appeared in "Big Momma's House 2" and "Shades of Ray.

"The boys will wind up going to school for the first time," so he says.
Admitting that the sequel will present a different part of the boys, the son of the man who created the famous singing chipmunks further adds on what the boys will be dealing with in school. Hard as it may be to believe, those cute little singing rodents known as The Chipmunks just keep coming back. Soon to celebrate their 50th anniversary, Alvin, Simon and Theodore are heading for their biggest project yet.
Alvin and his brothers debuted back in 1958 on novelty records and are the creation of singer/songwriter and sometime actor (the frustrated songwriter in Rear Window) Ross Bagdasarian. Bagdasarian played the chipmunks' father figure Dave Seville, as well as voiced the three chipmunks via sped-up audio. (Incidentally, Alvin and brothers are actually named after the executives of the group's original record label, Liberty Records.)
The Chipmunks won two Grammy Awards (for Engineering) and had several hit songs including the chart-topping The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late). When Bagdasarian died of a heart attack in 1972, son Ross Jr. and daughter-in-law Janice Karman took over the furry singers.

Hill in talks to lead 'Chipmunks'
Tim Hill is in discussions with the 20th Century Fox's Fox 2000 division about directing Alvin and the Chipmunks, a live-action/CG film based on the animated trio of singing chipmunks, who first rose to popularity in the late 1950s.
Hill directed last year's Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties, which Fox released, as well as 2001's Max Keeble's Big Move. His writing credits include The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie as well as episodes of the SpongeBob TV series.
Fox is expected to cast a comic actor in the role of Dave Seville, pal to the three chipmunks, Alvin, Simon and Theodore, who will be computer generated.
Ross Bagdasarian Jr., son of the late Ross Bagdasarian Sr., who created the Chipmunks, is producing along with Janice Karman, president of Bagdasarian Prods., which is producing the project with Fox.
Hill is repped by the Gersh Agency and manager Jeffrey Thal of Ensemble Entertainment.

Live-action/CGI feature in store for Chipmunks
Alvin and the Chipmunks might be singing their famous tunes on the big screen very soon. Fox 2000, 20th Century Fox Animation and Bagdasarian Prods. have teamed to develop a live-action/CGI feature film based on the popular characters, which have appeared on the radio, the small screen and numerous albums. The Fox divisions acquired the feature film rights from the estate of Ross Bagdasarian Sr., who created Alvin and the Chipmunks in 1958. His son, Ross Bagdasarian Jr., and Janice Karman will produce. A writer and director are being sought to bring the property to life onscreen. Similar to what the studio recently did with the summer release Garfield: The Movie, the role of Dave Seville, the Chipmunks' adoptive father and musical coach, will be live-action, with the Chipmunks -- Alvin, Simon and Theodore -- to be computer-animated.
