It is perhaps something of an understatement to suggest that there is little love lost between Hollywood and North Korea. If the events of last year, surrounding the controversial film The Interview, caused a stir within the totalitarian regime, then the project currently being developed by Daniel Dae Kim – Escaping North Korea – will certainly ruffle some repressive feathers also, since it tells the very real story of Korean-American hero, Mike Kim.
The film will be the adaptation of Escaping North Korea: Defiance And Hope In The World’s Most Repressive Country – written by Mike Kim, and published in 2008. The fascinating memoir details how he gave up his life in the Chicago business community, and relocated to China in 2003. Living close to the North Korean border, he posed as a student of North Korean Taekwondo for four years, and quietly founded Crossing Borders.

"Hawaii Five-o" star Daniel Dae Kim is developing Mike Kim's "Escaping North Korea" memoir into a feature film through his CBS-based production company 3Ad along with Sriram Das' Das Films.
Daniel Dae Kim will star as Mike Kim in the film which follows his first-hand account of a high-risk mission to lead a group of refugees over the North Korean border through Southeast Asia using a modern-day Underground Railroad.
Over the course of four years in Asia, he ended up aiding thousands of people of all ages find safe haven through his humanitarian missions. Rosalind Ross ("Matador") is attached to pen the adaptation while Chris S. Lee is producing.

Superheroes were center stage at the Hollywood Reporter's 38th annual Key Art Awards, held Friday night at the Geffen Contemporary at Moca in Los Angeles.
Sam Raimi, who has directed Sony's three "Spider-Man" movies, accepted the 2009 Visionary Award, given to a filmmaker who inspires movie marketers.
And "The Dark Knight," director Chris Nolan's second Batman movie, led the list of award winners, taking home eight prizes, including three best of show awards for its theatrical poster, theatrical TV spot and home entertainment print.
The animated "Wall-e" was a close runner-up, earning seven awards, including one best in show citation for home entertainment, new release packaging.
Warners, which fielded "Knight," and Disney, which released "Wall-e," earned 10 awards each, as did Paramount, thanks to a mix of films that included "Iron Man," "Tropic Thunder" and "The Godfather: Coppola Restoration" DVD.
Sony rounded out the top four studios with eight wins.
