There are violent shows, there are shows that become famous for their violence, and then, in a separate league somewhere between "Mortal Kombat" fatality animations and full-blown splatter cinema, there is Prime Video's "The Boys." Eric Kripke's adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's comic series has become infamous for placing absolutely no restraints on the destructive potential of superpowers, pushing Superman-like strength to brutal results with a level of wicked ingenuity and imagination that approaches cosmic horror -- and in some cases fully evokes it.
Season 4, which began on June 13, 2024 and wrapped up on July 18, may have just been the most violent season yet; there's an expectation at this point that the show will keep finding ways to one-up its own gory setpieces. But it was also a savage season for many other reasons, some wholly unrelated to gore. Here, we've organized some particularly grueling moments into a ranking of brutality,...

“The Boys” is undeniably captivating — the Prime Video adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s satirical superhero comic can be filthy, violent, irreverent and hilarious all at once. But the ongoing conflict between the show’s titular vigilantes and the “Supes” backed by malevolent conglomerate Vought International also keeps viewers transfixed with a layered narrative grounded in a relatable reality. It’s enough to make you forget that these flawed characters are wearing capes — even in the midst of all the kickass superhero action.
The challenge of “The Boys” is in creating an elaborate world that infuses its shock and awe with swirling drama and honest character motivation. In the videos below, visual effects supervisor Stephan Fleet, stunt coordinator John Koyama, and costume designers Laura Jean Shannon and Michael Ground describe how a world with endless possibilities is better off when its dildo brawls, hallucinated pizza parlor mascots, and...

[Editor’s Note: This article contains spoilers for “Better Call Saul” Season 5 and “Breaking Bad.”]
Dean Norris knew that Hank Schrader’s appearance on the latest episode of “Better Call Saul” would be a crowd-pleaser, but that doesn’t mean the return of everyone’s favorite New Mexico DEA agent was a needless cameo.
Norris, who portrayed Hank in all five seasons of “Breaking Bad,” made his grand “Better Call Saul” entrance in the fifth season’s third episode, where he interrogated drug dealer Domingo “Krazy-8” Molina and met Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) for the first time. The actor discussed his return to Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould’s crime-addled New Mexico world in an Entertainment Weekly interview on Tuesday and noted he wouldn’t have returned to the series if there wasn’t a genuine storytelling reason for him to do so.
“Peter Gould had talked to me for several years about this possibility of coming back,...

Preacher is one of my favorite series currently running on TV and it's going to be released on Blu-ray and DVD October 4.
The first season takes a while to get going, mostly because of character development but it really gets going. Lots of gore and is damned hilarious in spots. Very interesting characters as well. Can't wait for season 2. Read more about the upcoming release below.

Watch out, world of web TV, because there's a new ninja in town: Katana has debuted with a pilot episode on Strike.TV. Billed as the first martial arts web series, Katana brings in a host of top-notch stunt talent. The hard hitting show stars John Koyama and Yuji Okumoto (also the writer-producer) alongside stunt superstars Al Goto, Sam Looc, and Don Tai. If you haven't recognized any of those names, check out those IMDb listings, because you've definitely seen their movies. Koyama and Okumoto play brothers in a Japanese American Yakuza crime syndicate family. Where Koyama quit the ninja lifestyle to spend time with his wife and daughter, however, Okumoto decided to carry on with the family business - and "convinces" Koyama to join him. Family kidnappings, organized crime, and ninjas; it's like 1980s action movies meet The Sopranos.
