BBC Studios has announced the titles coming to BritBox in July 2024, which include everything from new BritBox Originals to classic British fare. BritBox is a digital video subscription service offering the largest collection of British TV in the U.S. and Canada.
The July lineup features the return of the multi-bafta-nominated The Responder, once again led by Martin Freeman, who won an International Emmy for his performance in the first season and written by former first responder Tony Schumacher. Told with brutal realism, season two follows Chris Carson (Freeman) and Rachel (Adelayo Adedayo) as they cope with the trauma of the night officer beat and try to rebuild their lives in their own ways.
On July 2, John Simm leads a new season of Grace, based on Peter James’ bestselling crime novels. This season features adaptations of Dead Man’s Time, Want You Dead, You Are Dead, and Love You Dead.

As this writer continues to play post-Halloween catch up with reviews, here’s a look at two films I recently had the pleasure of checking out: His House from up-and-coming filmmaker Remi Weekes and Tremors: Shrieker Island, the seventh film in the Tremors franchise.
His House: After premiering earlier this year at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, writer/director Remi Weekes’ His House is now available to stream on Netflix. By blending together a haunted house story with his poignant examination of the dehumanizing treatment of refugees, Weekes creates a truly haunting experience where trauma and terror manifest in very personal ways, resulting in one of the most harrowing genre films to come along this year.
In His House, we follow Bol (Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù), his wife Rial (Wunmi Mosaku), and their daughter (Malaika Wakoli-Agibaba) as they are desperately fleeing a war-torn Sudan in hopes of finding a better life in the U.

Tremors: Shrieker Island is the seventh film in the comedy/action franchise and is the best film since the original Tremors. There have been a few misses in the franchise, let’s not talk about the Cold Day in Hell film, but overall, the franchise has been a fun, light-hearted series that is propped up by Michael Gross’ character of Burt Gummer. While Tremors: Shrieker Island may be the finale to the franchise, it also lays the groundwork for a new direction for the series, if the demand is there.
When big game hunter, Bill (Richard Brake), wants to commercialize the greatest hunt he can imagine, he uses his company, Avex-Bio Tech, to scientifically engineer Graboids on his own private island. For those unfamiliar to the series,...

Tremors isn’t exactly the most critically acclaimed horror franchise, but it’s been going strong since its debut in 1990, and now the latest installment, Tremors: Shrieker Island, previously known as Island Fury, is upon us.
For those who don’t know, the series focuses on battles against the Graboids, a strange species of huge carnivorous sandworms who survived from prehistoric times. In this new film, several Graboids have been captured and illegally transported to a private island by a very wealthy individual looking to genetically modify them in hopes of creating the ultimate in trophy hunting prey. Obviously, though, things don’t go according to plan and it’s up to gun nut survivalist and expert Graboid hunter Burt Gummer to save the day.
If you’ve been excited to see the movie, we’ve got some good news for you, as it’s now available on Netflix to stream.

"You don't know what you're up against..." Universal Pictures has released an official trailer for yet another direct-to-dvd sequel in the Tremors franchise (there's a Tremors franchise?) called Tremors: Shrieker Island. Believe it or not, this is the 7th (!!) film in the Tremors franchise, following Tremors: A Cold Day in Hell in 2018. The only reason we're posting this: because this one stars Napoleon Dynamite himself, Jared Hess, along with the original Tremors hunter himself, Michael Gross, who also appears in all six of the other Tremors movies. When a private island is infiltrated by Graboids, Ass Blasters, and Shriekers, two of the tropical island's nature preserve's top scientists recruit Burt Gummer, monster hunter extraordinaire, to eradicate the infestation. While there, Burt picks up a potential new protégé and encounters lost love. The cast includes Caroline Langrishe, Cassie Clare, Matthew Douglas, Sahajak Boonthanakit, David Asavanond, Jackie Cruz, and Richard Brake. Doesn't look that bad,...

Tremors: Island Fury, or Tremors: Shrieker Island as it’s now titled, is set for a direct-to-video release this October and to whet our appetites, we’ve now got the first official trailer for the next entry in the beloved series, which teases more of the same crazy fun that we’ve come to expect from Tremors.
Shrieker Island is the seventh movie instalment in the franchise and is set on an island resort. This time around, though, the Graboid invasion will come as a result of a rich playboy transporting the creatures off the mainland in order to host a trophy hunt. Of course, that sounds like a pretty terrible idea and it isn’t long before things go wrong, leading to the legendary Burt Gummer being called in for help.
For more, here’s the official synopsis:

Tremors: Island Fury remains on course for a direct-to-video release this October, having wrapped up its production months before the coronavirus pandemic hit. And to whet the fans’ appetites, actor Michael Gross has shared the first official image from the upcoming sequel on social media today.
The image offers a sneak peek at how his character, the eccentric Burt Gummer, will appear in the next instalment. He’s a far cry from the hardboiled Graboid-slayer last seen in 2018’s Tremors: A Cold Day in Hell, now sporting a thick white beard and long hair, as though he’s been lost in the wilderness for the last two years.
Island Fury is, of course, the seventh movie instalment in the horror franchise, and as the title suggests, this one takes place on an island resort. This time, the Graboid invasion will be a self-inflicted one of sorts, as the premise involves...

While casual movie enthusiasts may not realize it, diehard horror fans know that the Tremors franchise is easily one of the prolific cinematic universes of the past few decades. The original 1990 film starring Kevin Bacon has since spawned five direct-to-video movies, four sequels, a prequel, several video games and a short-lived TV show. Now that Tremors 7 has been officially confirmed, moviegoers will be pleased to hear that there’ll be some big names fending off the Graboids this time around.
We already know that Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite) and Jackie Cruz (Orange is the New Black) will be joining series frontman Michael Gross onscreen, but it’s also recently been revealed that Richard Brake of 3 From Hell fame will be rounding out the cast. The British-American character actor was a welcome addition to the Firefly family in Rob Zombie’s latest feature and also played the Night King during the...

Dean Andrews in The Case. co. BBC
K Kinsella
Click here to friend Best British TV on Facebook.
Actor Dean Andrews who has previously appeared in hit shows such as Life on Mars and Marchlands, returns to BBC1 this week in a gripping new drama called The Case. Andrews plays a man named Tony Powell who is accused of murdering the love of his life. Powell denies the murder charge and claims that it was a case of assisted suicide. The show airs on BBC1 starting on Monday 31 October at 2.15pm and the remaining episodes air at the same time over the rest of the week. I recently had the opportunity to talk with Dean about the new show and his prior work.
You are playing the lead role in The Case. Tell us a bit about the character of Tony.
“Tony is just an ordinary guy who works on cars and owns a garage.
