Sylvester Stallone has been a fixture of pop culture for some 50 years, and it began with "Rocky," one of Hollywood's biggest success stories. That is not hyperbole. Stallone wrote a script that took him from obscurity and made him an Oscar-nominated actor and writer with instant star power and a few million in the bank.
Hopes were high for Stallone. Roger Ebert, for instance, wrote that the young actor reminded him of Marlon Brando, who had played a journeyman fighter in "On The Waterfront." However, thanks to mindless vanity pieces like "Cobra" and "Rambo: First Blood Part II," it wouldn't be long before such a comparison was viewed with derision.
Still, people shouldn't forget what made Stallone a success from 1976 to 1982, during which he proved himself as an actor of intelligence, naturalism, and heart. A mixture of ego and '80s commercialism reoriented his dramatic foundation throughout the rest of the decade,...

Sylvester Stallone's ex-wife, Brigitte Nielsen, says there is no way Stallone could have sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl in Las Vegas because she was with him the entire time. The Daily Mail posted a story that the 16-year-old met Stallone in 1986 during the filming of "Over the Top" and he invited the girl to his hotel room at the Vegas Hilton where he allegedly forced her to have oral sex with him as his bodyguard raped her.

Sylvester Stallone is vehemently denying an allegation that he sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl in 1986, when he was 40 years old.
On Thursday, the Daily Mail published a report that Stallone was accused of sexually assaulting a teenager while he was shooting his film Over the Top in Las Vegas, citing the police report. According to the report, the alleged victim said she had been "intimidated" into having sex with both Stallone and his bodyguard at the time, Michael De Luca.
“This is a ridiculous, categorically false story," Michelle Bega, spokeswoman for 71-year-old Stallone said in a statement to Et, adding that Stallone says "It never happened." "No one was ever aware of this story until it was published today, including Mr. Stallone. At no time was Mr. Stallone ever contacted by any authorities or anyone else regarding this matter.”

Director and documentarian Mark Hartley scores both a film history and comedy success with this ‘wild, untold’ account of the 1980s film studio that was both revered and despised by everyone who had contact with it. The ‘cast list’ of interviewees is encyclopedic, everybody has a strong opinion, and some of them don’t need four-letter words to describe their experience!

With Escape Plan out today, we look back at the strange prominence of prisons in Sylvester Stallone movies...
In his blockbuster movies, Tom Cruise likes to ride motorcycles and run with his fingers outstretched. Jean-Claude Van Damme likes to wear tight lycra and do the splits a lot. Arnold Schwarzenegger likes to make that sort of guttural "graargh" noise when he gets into fights.
Sylvester Stallone, on the other hand, has his own set of interests and habits. He likes to fire machine guns one-handed, scream while flying helicopters, and making a "hurgh!" noise when he does something athletic. Also, he has a tendency to star in films that involve prisons.
Now, admittedly, Stallone's appeared in lots of films where there's no sign of jail cells, sadistic prison wardens or metal trays with hideous food piled up on them. But then again, he has appeared in these.

In honor of Friday's release of The Expendables, we're taking a week-long look at the action films of Sir Sylvester Stallone -- which is to say we're skipping his comedies. Out of respect.
Title: Over the Top
Setting: Present-day 1987, all across America
Our hero: Cross-country truck driver / absentee father Lincoln Hawk (Sylvester Stallone, who also co-wrote the screenplay and must've given himself that ultra-patriotic moniker)
Our villain/s: Rich grandfather Jason Cutler (Robert Loggia); five-time arm wrestling world champion Bob "Bull" Hurley (Rick Zumwalt)
The stakes: Custody of young son Michael (David Mendenhall), which is especially important now that Lincoln's estranged wife is on her deathbed; $100k in prize money; *and* a brand new tractor truck for any champion who just so happened to hock his own off in a moment of Act II desperation!
