CBS’ comedy pilot Dmv is starting to staff up.
Tim Meadows will star in the single-camera show, which comes from CBS Studios and creator Dana Klein (Friends, CBS’ 9Jkl). As the title implies, Dmv is set in a department of motor vehicles office and follows the people who work there.
Saturday Night Live and The Goldbergs alum Meadows will play Gregg, a former high school teacher who now works as a Dmv examiner. Gregg likes to get through driving tests, and the day, as quickly as possible. Gregg has an uncanny ability to make dead-on observations of those around him, and he is sardonic, defeated and would love nothing more than to retire.
Dmv is one of three comedy projects CBS has has in various stages of development. The others are Eternally Yours, a show about a family of vampires from Ghosts showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman that has...

You might say there’s a haunting pattern when it comes to season finales of Ghosts, the hit CBS series that serves you emotions with a side of morbid humor: in last May’s third season cliffhanger, a spirit from Woodstone Manor abruptly disappeared from the property. Thankfully, fans won’t have to spend too much more time wondering what happened to Revolutionary Isaac Higgintoot (Brandon Scott Jones) after he broke off his wedding with Nigel (John Hartman) and was pulled into the dirt by his old friend Patience — the ghost who still holds a grudge from Isaac leaving her underground in the 1800s. “We’re going to find out what her plans with Isaac are. We’re going to deal with that in the beginning,” promises showrunner Joe Wiseman, indicating that we’ll be seeing a lot more of the Puritan ghost played by The Big Door Prize’s Mary Holland.

“Einstein,” (working title) a new crime drama from “Monk” creator Andy Breckman, has landed a pilot order at CBS.
The pilot, which is written by Breckman and directed by Randy Zisk, follows “the brilliant but directionless great grandson of Albert Einstein, who spends his days as a comfortably tenured professor until his bad boy antics land him in trouble with the law and he is pressed into service helping a local police detective solve her most puzzling cases,” according to the logline for the potential series.
In addition to Breckman and Zisk, the project is executive produced by Tariq Jalil; Rose Hughes, Rodrigo Herrera Ibarguengoytia and Laura Beetz (Seven One Studios International). CBS Studios serve as producer.
“Einstein” is the latest pilot to be orded up by CBS, following the single-camera workplace comedy “Dmv.”

CBS is ramping up its development, handing out its first drama pilot order of the current cycle.
It’s for a procedural called Einstein, which centers on the (fictional) great-grandson of Albert Einstein and is based on a German series of the same name. Monk creator Andy Breckman wrote the script and will serve as showrunner, while Randy Zisk (also a Monk alum) is attached to direct and will also be an EP.
The pilot order for Einstein follows news on two comedy projects at CBS: On Monday, the network placed a pilot order for a single-camera comedy called Dmv from creator Dana Klein (Friends, 9Jkl) and opened a development room for a vampire comedy titled Eternally Yours from Ghosts showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman. All three projects are produced by CBS Studios and are part of CBS’ year-round development strategy, which embraces different tracks for different types of shows.

CBS has given out a pilot order to the single-camera workplace comedy “Dmv,” Variety has confirmed. In addition, CBS has opened a writers’ room for another single-cam titled “Eternally Yours.”
Based on the short story from Katherine Heiny, “Dmv” hails from writer Dana Klein, who executive produces with Aaron Kaplan, Wendi Trilling and Robyn Meisinger. According to a series description, “Dmv” is “set at the place everyone dreads going most: the Dmv. Our quirky and lovable characters are making minimum wage, doing a thankless job where customers are annoyed before they even walk in the door. Good thing they have each other.”
Klein previously created two other sitcoms for CBS entitled “9Jkl” and “Freinds with Better Lives,” both of which Kaplan executive produced. Klein was also a producer on the iconic NBC comedy “Friends” from 2001 to 2004.

Exclusive: CBS is advancing the development of two single-camera comedy projects, Dmv, from the 9Jkl team of co-creator/showrunner Dana Klein, Kapital Entertainment and TrillTV, and Eternally Yours (working title), from Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, creators/showrunners of the CBS version of Ghosts, and The Tannenbaum Company.
The network has given a pilot order to Dmv and has commissioned a development room for Eternally Yours, both produced by CBS Studios. Port and Wiseman, who have been under an overall deal at CBS Studios since the breakout success of Ghosts, are staying in the supernatural comedy space with Eternally Yours, which revolves around a family of vampires.
The orders are in line with comments CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach made in January and reiterated in June when she said she was expecting to pick up some development rooms and “potentially even a comedy pilot or two” over the summer.

The CBS comedy “Ghosts” is coming back for its fourth season this fall. At a recent Comic-Con event, the people behind the show shared some fun new details.
One big surprise is that Jay will finally be able to see the ghosts! Played by Utkarsh Ambudkar, Jay works at the haunted house but couldn’t see or talk to the ghost residents before. Now things will change up as Jay interacts with the spirits.
Viewers will also meet two guest characters. Mary Holland will play Patience, a stern Puritan ghost from the 1600s who was kicked out of her village for being too much. Her past connects to Isaac, one of the ghosts played by Brandon Scott Jones.
Dean Norris from “Breaking Bad” will guest star too. He plays Sam’s dad Frank, who visits with his new girlfriend. This forces Sam, played by Rebecca Wisocky, to face feelings about her parents’ divorce.

Ghosts fans got quite a bit of information about the upcoming fourth season of the CBS comedy during Saturday’s Comic-Con panel, including the surprise announcement that Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) will finally get to see his invisible housemates at Woodstone Manor.
That’s right, Jay is seeing the ghosts in Season 4. Even Ambudkar was shocked by the news, which received a resounding applause from the packed Ballroom 20.
“Guys, I get to talk to people at work!” the actor joked. He was joined by showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman as well as series stars Román Zaragoza, Rebecca Wisocky and Richie Moriarty.
Unlike many of these panels, where creators and cast have remained fairly tight-lipped with any spoilers, the Ghosts crew was ready to divulge about Season 4.
After that Season 3 cliffhanger, there is the looming threat of Patience, the “feral Puritan ghost” as Port put it. The panel began with the...

CBS Studios today revealed at the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel that Mary Holland (Big Door Prize) and Dean Norris (Breaking Bad) will guest star in the upcoming fourth season of the hit CBS series Ghosts. Holland has joined for the recurring role of Patience and Norris will play Frank, Samantha’s (Rose McIver) father.
Patience is the ghost of a Puritan woman who died in the late 1600s. While alive, she was exceedingly severe and judgmental, even by Puritan standards. As such, she was expelled from her village for “being a bit too much.”
After being dead for a couple of hundred years, Patience was inadvertently abandoned (by our Revolutionary War ghost Isaac) underground near the mansion and has become a feral creature “roaming the dirt” since 1895.
In the season three finale, Patience reemerged from the dirt to kidnap Isaac and dragged him back to her lair. In the premiere of season four,...

Twenty years ago, at the end of the 2003-04 TV season, audiences said goodbye to our dear “Friends.”
Rachel, Ross, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe and Joey left us to go on with their lives outside of the confines of a couple of apartments and a coffee shop. Audiences were left without the comfort of tuning in each Thursday to see them talk endlessly about the past and present, if not always the future.
Every one of the characters on David Crane and Marta Kauffman’s NBC sitcom knew, at least eventually, everything about the others’ lives. Everyone lived together, vacationed together and frequently dated each other. They’d spend hours on an overstuffed orange couch sipping lattes and chatting like they had nowhere else to be. It was how the audience (both the other characters and the real ones watching at home) reacted to those stories that made them feel like a chosen family.

Season 2 of Ghosts ended with a big cliffhanger (the question of which character got “sucked off,” which is the supernatural comedy’s term for heading off into the afterlife), so when showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman set their sights on Season 3, they knew they’d have to focus a lot of time crafting the details around the previous finale while leaving space to move the rest of the story forward within a compressed season. “We have 10 regulars, so we wanted to make sure that everyone was highlighted in at least one episode,” Wiseman said in a recent THR Presents panel, powered by Vision Media. Adds Port: “It’s a good problem to have that we have such a talented cast.”

The CBS single-camera supernatural comedy “Ghosts” – adapted from the British series of the same name – stars Rose McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar as Sam and Jay, a young couple who inherit a rundown mansion that’s co-inhabited by the spirits of those who died on the property throughout history. On May 2, the hit series wrapped its third season and has been renewed for a fourth next fall. Asher Grodman, the actor who plays Trevor on Ghosts, thinks fans of the series should prepare themselves for a wild ride. The Ghosts season 3 finale is just weeks away, and the writers have a lot to live up to. The season 2 finale served up a massive cliffhanger. In the season 2 finale, fans saw a spirit get “sucked off” into the afterlife, but they needed to wait until midway through season 3 to learn who actually went on to the next realm. Grodman says the season 3 finale is even bigger than season 2.

Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from Thursday’s episode of Ghosts.
Woodstone Mansion was in for quite the surprise on this week’s episode of Ghosts.
The penultimate episode didn’t disappoint, revealing yet another ghost’s powers. It looks like Pete (Richie Moriarty) isn’t stuck on the property after all. Unlike everyone else, he isn’t bound by the ghost border at Woodstone and can travel wherever he pleases. Naturally, his first getaway is a trip to the grocery store with Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar), who immediately loses him due to the fact that he can’t actually see any of the ghosts.
Luckily, this wasn’t another Flower (Sheila Carrasco) situation. By the end of the episode, Pete had returned safe and sound. But the newfound confidence he got from leaving the property inspired him to take a trip to see his family. Hopefully he’ll be...

Ghosts fans were thrilled when Flower, the spirit who was believed to be “sucked off” in the season 3 premiere, returned. Flower was missing from the beloved series for most of season 3 before fans learned she had fallen into a well and could not climb out because ghosts can walk through walls. [This story contains spoilers from the season 3, episode 8 of Ghosts, “Holes Are Bad.”]
The premise of CBS’ hit comedy Ghosts is a notably ridiculous one: After a near-death experience, Sam (Rose McIver) can communicate with the spirits who haunt the country home she inherited from her great aunt — a group of specters from all walks of life and historical eras who died on the property at some point in time. One of those ghosts includes Hetty Woodstone (Rebecca Wisocky), the great-great-great-great-aunt to Sam, who maintains a stuffy, Gilded Age-era attitude that prides wealth and power and shows a disdain for modern times.
In the eighth episode of Ghosts‘ third season, however, we learn a surprising fact about Hetty that brings more depth to a character who has slowly revealed herself to be more than just an uptight robber baroness from a far-off generation. Unhappily married to a devious man of means, she is pinned into a corner when her...

CBS has renewed the comedy “Ghosts” for Season 4 and the drama “Fire Country” for Season 3.
Both shows launched their new seasons in mid-February due to the impact last year’s dual writers’ and actors’ strike had on broadcast production schedules.

CBS is looking to scare up more laughs after handing an early Season 4 renewal to supernatural comedy Ghosts.
It is the latest renewal order for the Paramount-owned network, which also handed a third season to Fire Country and gave Justin Hartley series Tracker a second season earlier this month.
Ghosts, which is based on the BBC’s British comedy, has been a success for CBS since launching in 2021. Its third season is averaging over 10M viewers in live 7-day multiplatform viewing, which is marginally up from last year and streaming numbers are up on Paramount+, where the company said it ranked as its number one comedy in February.

The move gives some continuity to CBS’ comedy slate for next season as two of its longer running series, Young Sheldon and Bob Hearts Abishola are coming to an end.

Season 3 of Ghosts kicked off with a big reveal. The cast was making announcements ahead of the season’s premiere, though. In January, Rose McIver, the actor who portrays Sam, took to Instagram to make a big announcement of her own. She revealed that she and her husband, George Byrne, are expecting their first child together. Fans were thrilled by the news, but McIver’s pregnancy did raise a few questions. Most importantly, Ghosts fans wanted to know if the series, which premiered its third season in February, would write Rose McIver’s pregnancy into the season. We have the answer.
Rose McIver’s pregnancy has not been written into ‘Ghosts’
Rose McIver is preparing to welcome her first child into the world, but her character won’t be doing the same. When Rose McIver appeared visibly pregnant at the Golden Globe Awards, fans quickly assumed that season 3 of Ghosts would have a pregnancy storyline.

[Editor’s note: This story contains spoilers for the Season 3 premiere of “Ghosts.”]
Season 2 of CBS’s beloved sitcom “Ghosts,” whose Season 3 premiered on Thursday, February 15, ended on a major cliffhanger: When Sam (Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) almost lost their home to a scammer, they recapped the events of the last two years when Rose inherited their country home from her great aunt and her near death experience allowed for her to see and interact with the zany and loveable ghosts who haunt their home. Even for Jay, who can’t see them, the ghosts have become an integral part of their lives, almost like family. And as they wax poetic about the positive changes the ghosts have brought into their lives, they saw a beam of light from the home indicating that one of the ghosts has been sucked off, “Ghosts” speak for going to the afterlife.

This article contains major spoilers for Ghosts season 3 episode 1.
It’s been a long wait for the Ghosts season 3 premiere – nine months, in fact, since the Ghosts season 2 finale ended on a major cliffhanger in May 2023. The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes unexpectedly extended the usual planned summer break hiatus well into the fall and winter.
Now fans are finally finding out what happened immediately after Sam (Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) watched in shock from their car as a massive light beamed down from heaven to “suck off” (in the show’s parlance) one of the ghosts.
“The Owl” begins with Sam and Jay entering Woodstone and immediately conducting a headcount. One by one, the main ghosts either appear or tell them that they’ve seen another ghost recently. The basement ghosts and even the attic ghosts are accounted for. It’s clear eventually that Flower (Sheila Carrasco) hasn...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched the Season 3 premiere of “Ghosts,” titled “The Owl,” which aired Feb. 15 on CBS.
Flower, hopefully you’re finally getting to cuddle a few bears up there in the sky. Yes, you read that right: There’s one less ghost on “Ghosts,” as the characters said farewell to Flower on the Season 3 premiere of CBS’ hit comedy.
The series finally returned on Thursday (after a long strikes-induced delay), and we learned which spirit had been finally sent to the afterlife. After a few fakeouts, the ghosts discovered that it was Flower (Sheila Carrasco) who was “sucked off” in the Season 2 finale, as witnessed by Sam (Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar).
Flower is the 1960s-era hippie who died trying to hug a bear while high on acid, and remained a bit forgetful and drugged-out while living in the purgatory that is Woodstone Mansion.

Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from the Season 3 premiere of CBS’ Ghosts.
It’s been a while since we’ve caught up with the inhabitants of Woodstone Mansion.
When Season 2 of CBS’ Ghosts ended, audiences were left with quite the cliffhanger, as one of the ghosts finally moved on. Or, as the other ghosts call it, “got sucked off.” Just like the audience, Jay [Utkarsh Ambudkar] and Sam [Rose McIver] also aren’t privy to whose departed the manor, since they only saw a flash of light from their car to indicate that someone was gone.
The Season 3 premiere doesn’t waste any time solving that mystery. After a quick headcount, Jay and Sam discover that it was Flower who finally crossed over to the other side. Bad news for Thor, who was madly in love with Flower. Meanwhile, some of the others have complicated feelings about her departure because,...

Ghosts will finally return for its long-awaited third season on CBS on Thursday, February 15, and while some fans may still be wondering about Season 2’s lingering question of which ghost was “sucked off,” new questions have since surfaced. Fans of star Rose McIver, who plays “living” Sam, may have noticed when she presented at the Golden Globe Awards that she’s pregnant, leading to the question of how that might impact her story in the series. “We’re not writing it in,” co-showrunner Joe Wiseman tells TV Insider. “Currently, Jay and Sam aren’t going to have kids.” (Credit: Bertrand Calmeau/CBS) At least not now. No, it will be business as usual for McIver’s Sam and her husband, fellow “living” Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar). After being forced to push the Season 3 premiere date for its hit comedy Ghosts to February 15, 2024 amidst this summer’s dual strikes, CBS is readying for its return to production, star Danielle Pinnock has revealed.
“We start shooting on Saturday. I fly down to Montreal. We’re going back, baby!” exclaimed Pinnock tonight, in conversation with Deadline at the red carpet premiere for her new Amazon MGM holiday film, Candy Cane Lane. “We did a table read — those scripts are good!”
Pinnock expects the show to shoot “only 10 episodes this season,” rather than the 18+ that have been put out in its first two go-rounds, because of both strike-forced delays and the fact that her co-star Sheila Carrasco is expecting her first child. Still, she teased, “those episodes are fierce and the audiences should prepare themselves.”

“We can’t wait for fans to see the last few episodes of Season 2. A lot happens: Woodstone Mansion hosts a wedding, we find out where Crash has been, we finally solve Alberta’s murder, and we end the season with a very fun cliffhanger,” co-showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman tell TVLine.
