As OWN’s superlative Greenleaf was coming to an end in the summer of 2020, creator Craig Wright was already planning a spinoff. (In fact, he discussed it at lengths with TVLine; read that interview here.) Almost a year later, leading lady Lynn Whitfield shared what she knew about the drama that was to be centered around her estimable matriarch Lady Mae. But since then… nothing.

William Baldwin starred in three projects with Donald Sutherland, the Emmy- and honorary Oscar-winning actor who died Thursday at age 88 after a seven-decade Hollywood career.
Below, he shares his thoughts on Sutherland, his co-star in Ron Howard’s Backdraft, Universal’s Virus and the ABC series Dirty, Sexy, Money.
I have the honor and pleasure of working with Donald Sutherland on three occasions.
The first was when he so brilliantly portrayed the deranged, psychopathic arsonist Ronald in Ron Howard’s Backdraft.
The second was 20 weeks on the Universal sci-fi thriller Virus with Jamie Lee Curtis.
The third, and by far my favorite, was when he played my father and patriarch of the Darling family, Tripp Darling, on the short-lived but wonderful ABC hit Dirty, Sexy, Money.
Donald was a complex, complicated and quirky man in the most delicious way. He had a gentle, childlike boyish streak in him that I absolutely adored.

Whether it’s the questionable FX, the lead star’s very controversial dalliances, or just audiences being burned one too many times by Comic Book Films, there’s one movie that is all anyone can talk about. And look, I get it. There was a lot of craziness that went on during this production and had more people come and go due to creative differences than any movie we’ve covered on the show.
Warning you guys and gals right now, if you haven’t seen The Flash, you’re going to want to turn back now, because this is where things get Super spoilery.
Warner Brothers tried getting a Flash movie off the ground in the late 80’s with comic writer Jeph Loeb being brought in to write the screenplay. Unfortunately nothing ever came of the property until 2004 when David S Goyer signed on to write, direct and produce a new Flash.

When recently TVLine spoke with Greenleaf powerhouse Lynn Whitfield about her stunning performance of Lady Mae’s series-ending sermon — a tour de force so impactful, it still gives us chills just thinking about it — we couldn’t resist. “Well, he’s working,” she said. “I’ve not read anything, but I know that he’s been working on it, and you know how brilliant he is.”

Sisterhood is the heart and soul of Delilah.
This not only includes the strong bond between besties Delilah and Tamara, but also Delilah and her former college roommate-turned-client Leah. But as viewers saw in Tuesday’s Season 1 finale of Craig Wright’s latest OWN drama, some sisters can’t be saved. Although it seemed like Leah — who really did steal Delilah’s boots when they were young — was a good person, she only cared about herself in the end.

OWN has ordered the drama series “The Kings of Napa” from “Claws” showrunner Janine Sherman Barrois, setting Matthew A. Cherry as the director of the first two episodes.
Created by Sherman Barrois, the series is centered on “the power struggle between the wealthy King family siblings in idyllic Napa Valley.”

To be clear, the OWN legal drama Delilah (Tuesdays, 9/8c) is not a Greenleaf spinoff. But, as executive producer Craig Wright says, the new series was born out of something he observed while making the soapy megachurch show he created.

From Greenleaf creator Craig Wright, who serves as executive producer along with Charles Randolph-Wright and Oprah Winfrey, Delilah stars Maahra Hill as a lawyer who left a demanding white-shoe law firm a decade ago and hung up her own shingle, so she could make raising her kids her No. 1 priority. Now she takes on cases the big firms ignore and finds herself, more often than not, going head-to-head with the powerful and privileged as she fights for the disenfranchised.

In a panel discussion, titled “The Black experience: Creating community and diversity in the scripted industry,” hosted by Mia market in Rome on Saturday, TV executives discussed the opportunities for Black talent in television and the challenges they face.
Panellists Mo Abudu, CEO of Nigeria’s EbonyLife Media, and French-African artist Nicholle Kobi began by pointing to examples of Black shows that had inspired them, such as Issa Rae’s “Insecure” and Michaela Coel’s “I May Destroy You.” Abudu said that the Covid-19 lockdown also provided her with an opportunity to look back at older shows, like Craig Wright’s family drama “Greenleaf,” and appreciate the storytelling, but also to think about “how we would do it now.”
Abudu commented that it was important for Black producers and talent to work in a wide range of genre. She mentioned shows such as the Jordan Peele produced horror drama “Lovecraft Country...

Exclusive: OWN is developing The Kings of Napa, a drama series from Claws executive producer showrunner Janine Sherman, Warner Bros. Television and Harpo Films. The project has been fast-tracked with a virtual writers room, run by Barrois, opening this week in compliance with physical distancing guidelines.
The frothy drama is centered on a gorgeous and idyllic Napa Valley vineyard owned by the Kings, an aspirational African American family whose wealth and class finds them on the pages of design magazines and society pages. The wine business has brought the family success and acclaim, but following the patriarch’s sudden exit from the company, his three children must grapple for the reigns to the kingdom — to their own power, wealth and legacy.

After recently announcing a new series from “Greenleaf” creator Craig Wright and a spinoff of the original megachurch family series, OWN is now adding on the unscripted front too.
Beginning in Oct., the network will expand its unscripted programming block to two nights a week (Fridays and Saturdays), debuting two new shows to boot.
One of those is a social experiment show from Will Packer and Lighthearted Entertainment called “Put a Ring on It.” The series features long time couples discovering if they’re truly meant to be…by dating other people. If the finale of “Greenleaf” were wrapped up in a perfectly packaged bow, with complications or heartstrings pulled, it wouldn’t really be a “Greenleaf” ending at all.
Throughout its five seasons, the OWN drama tackled faith on TV in a way that few others of its kind have, slowly rolling out the flaws of the exalted Greenleafs, the first family of a Black church. It gave its audience glimpse after glimpse into the inner workings of each character’s complicated humanity, and seamlessly weaved in faith and bible lessons that helped make the show so special and ready to stand the test of time.
“Faith is a strong part of the African American experience, and to me, ‘Greenleaf’ was the first scripted show on OWN that allowed our audience to see themselves in ways that were not prevalent in broadcast or being in cable,” OWN president Tina Perry says.
