Top global talent paid homage to director Martin Campbell and special effects supervisor Chris Corbould at the second London Action Festival, which concluded Sunday.
The duo, who were honored with the festival’s Moving Target Award for their outstanding contribution to action cinema, were surprised with a range of video messages from people who had worked with them.
Daniel Craig described Campbell and Corbould as “two people who have had a major influence on my career.” On Campbell, Craig said: “It gave me incredible security knowing you were steering the ship [Casino Royale]. I have so much to thank you for. I’m incredibly proud of the film we made together.” On Corbould, Craig added: “I don’t know what to say. You’ve blown me up, you’ve set me on fire – but what has been so incredible in working with you is to have had the privilege of getting inside your imagination.

Midway through Season 1 of “Andor” (streaming on Disney+), it’s very clear that this is like no other “Star Wars” series. Showrunner Tony Gilroy has us hooked with his gritty spy thriller-meets-wartime heist about scavenger-turned Rebel spy Cassian Andor (Diego Luna). It should come as no surprise given what Gilroy previously achieved as the screenwriter of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and “The Bourne Identity,” and as writer-director of “Michael Clayton.” His “Rogue One”origin story is the kind of nuanced, slow-burning character study “Star Wars” fans have been waiting for, filling in the details of a complex loner who will eventually light the fuse that ignites the rebellion against the Empire.

The first episode of "House of the Dragon" features the brutal death of Queen Aemma Targaryen (Sian Brooke) during childbirth. The queen, we learn, has tried unsuccessfully for years to give birth to a son, and her only surviving living child is Princess Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock). Each company will retain their own current identity and brand name and we understand there won’t be any departures as a result of the investment. The move should give the firms more heft in an increasingly competitive UK agency landscape, and offer clients broader opportunities.

HBO’s “Game of Thrones” and Amazon Prime Video’s “Fleabag” may be dead and gone, but they are most certainly not forgotten — at least as far as the American Cinema Editors are concerned. Bong Jong Ho’s South Korean film Parasite continued its remarkable awards-season run tonight, winning the top prize for editor Jimmo Yang at the 70th annual Ace Eddie Awards. It’s the first time the American Cinema Editors has given its marquee Best Edited Feature Film (Dramatic) award to a foreign-language pic.
Searchlight Pictures’ Nazi sendup Jojo Rabiit won the Best Edited Feature Film (Dramatic) for Tom Eagles, and Axel Geddes took home Best Edited Animated Feature Film for Disney/Pixar’s billion-dollar sequel Toy Story 4. Todd Douglas Miller scooped the Eddie for Best Edited Documentary (Feature) for Neon’s Apollo 11.

The most fascinating aspect of the “Game of Thrones” presence at this year’s Emmys is the fact that the show took a year off. The first six seasons were an annual presence at “TV’s biggest night,” becoming relatively predictable for their ability to dominate, especially in the below-the-line categories. But the HBO fantasy drama was absent from the 2017 awards after premiering too late in the year to qualify, allowing a whole new crop of dramas to vie for glory.
That delay meant that one of TV’s winning-est series is eligible again this year, and anyone who might have thought a summer premiere would lead to a decrease in nominations was very much mistaken; the veteran series received 22 nominations for its seventh season, the most of any show. The American Cinema Editors have announced the nominees for the 67th annual Ace Eddie Awards, with “Arrival,” “Moonlight,” “Manchester by the Sea” and “La La Land” among the contenders. On the comedy side, “Deadpool” and “The Lobster” continued their surprise awards-season runs by landing nods, while “Stranger Things” also had a strong showing in the TV category.

Jimmy Kimmel did an awesome job hosting, and even managed to point out all of the annoying gluten free stars in the audience after passing out Pb&J sandwiches his mom made. And he hoped nobody was allergic to nuts!

While “Game of Thrones” achieved epic greatness with the ambitious “Battle of the Bastards,” “Better Call Saul” got even better in Season 2 with a looser and more experimental vibe. They’re squaring off for best drama series editing, with “Got” the likely winner.
Meanwhile, “The People v. O.J. Simpson,” which captured the “Trial of the Century” as a telling precursor to current racial strife, has the edge over the trippy “Fargo” prequel in the limited series/movie editing race.
“The Battle of the Bastards” brings to a head the heated feud between Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) and his army of Wildlings, and the Boltons, led by nemesis Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon).
