KollywoodPETA had urged the filmmakers to use CGI instead of real animals.Digital NativeDigital NativePETA had advised the makers of the upcoming film Gorilla, starring Jiiva in the lead role, to use VFX instead of a real chimpanzee to shoot the film. Apparently, the film is centered on a chimpanzee and the filmmakers made arrangements to use the services of an animal trained at the Samut Training Station of Thailand, well known for training chimps. However, with PETA raising an objection to it, the filmmakers have made it clear that the entire film has been shot already. In a letter to the producers, PETA India’s associate director of celebrity and public relations, Sachin Bangera had said, “Compassionate, forward-thinking filmmakers would never dream of hauling sensitive wild animals to a chaotic movie set and forcing them to ‘act’ for viewers’ amusement. Blockbusters such as the Planet of the Apes franchise and The Jungle Book have relied on technical wizardry and advanced CGI to create realistic animal characters without harming or harassing their live counterparts.” However, the film’s producers in a letter have stated that the entire shooting has been completed. The contents of the letter are as follows, “PETA had requested us not to use live chimpanzee hereafter for shooting. As it is, we have finished shooting of the entire film. We also informed them that the entire shoot and the portions involving the animal have been shot within the legalities, rules and regulations of our government and Thailand government.” Directed by Don Sandy, the film is bankrolled by Vijayaraghavendra under his banner All In Pictures, who bankrolled movies such as Masala Padam and Rum. The music for this comedy entertainer will be composed by Sam Cs of Vikram Vedha fame. Jiiva, who plays the lead role in Gorilla, also a couple of films lined up for release this year including Kee and Gypsy which are in different stages of production. When Jon Favreau set out to direct Disney’s live-action The Jungle Book, which debuts on 8 April in India, he was tasked with bringing to life some of the most iconic animal characters ever seen on screen, from Baloo the bear to Shere Khan the tiger. But rather than relying on abused captive animals to create the film, Favreau turned to advanced computer-generated imagery (CGI), explaining, “It’s amazing what they can do with [creating the appearance of] fur and live-flesh animals, and so every day I go into work it’s astounding what these visual effects artists accomplish.”
The result is a realistic yet mythical world filled with larger-than-life, anthropomorphic animals who live, breathe, fight, and flee amidst lively, lush scenery. And in thanks for Favreau’s compassionate decision, PETA Us is presenting the director with an Innovation in Film Award.

Jallikattu is an ancient bull taming ritual required for reproduction of cows and bulls considered as part of Pongal celebrations. For the first time, Esha has decided to turn a blogger, voicing her opinion against the evil practice of Jallikattu and bull races. Esha says, "These acts of cruelty (Jallikattu and bull races) directly violate the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, which states that it's an offence to beat, kick, override or torture animals or otherwise cause them pain or suffering - or for owners to permit such treatment." "The wrong practice doesn't just harm and even kill bulls; hundreds of humans have also been hurt or killed during such events.

Dressing on the side please: Lady Gaga's next outrageous getup may be a wedge salad. After hearing that the "Born This Way" singer is heading to India to headline the country's first Formula 1 Grand Prix, PETA is urging the singer to wear a lettuce dress. It's a far cry from the horrific-looking meat number, complete with a beef beret, she wore to the 2010 VMAs. So will the singer wear the veggie-friendly couture? Gaga has yet to agree to slipping into the salad gown, but if she does it'll be quite a delicate piece. According to PETA's Sachin Bangera, the lettuce dress would take nearly six hours to construct. "If she agrees, we'll make her a dress...
