It's been a minute since Netflix dropped Wednesday, its Tim Burton-helmed spinoff off The Addams Family starring Jenna Ortega as a teenaged Wednesday Addams, but did the hype ever truly die down? The first season of Wednesday blew past all expectations when it premiered in 2022, breaking Stranger Things season 4's record for the most minutes viewed in a single week and becoming one of the most-watched shows in the streamer's history. Netflix was quick to renew it for a second season, but with last year's dual Hollywood strikes, it's been slow in coming.
But production is moving right along! Last week was Geeked Week, which meant Netflix dropped tons of teasers and announcements for all its biggest shows. That includes Wednesday, which debuted a first look video that took fans behind the scenes on season 2. Check it out:

First Look Trailer of ‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Demolishes a Huge Season 1 Theory About the Addams Family

Season 2 of the hit Netflix Addams Family series Wednesday has been filming in Ireland since May, and Netflix has just unveiled a video that gives a glimpse behind the scenes. In the process, they have also confirmed that the new batch of episodes will premiere sometime in 2025. That means Burton is at the helm of four of the season’s eight episodes.

Back in 2022, the eight-episode feature following the mysterious adventures of Wednesday Addams in Nevermore Academy became Netflix’s most-watched original series ever, beating even the most hyped seasons of Stranger Things and Bridgerton.
Filming of the follow-up has just started in Ireland, and we can finally have a closer look at the second season’s cast changes. Luckily, Wednesday’s main star, the new scream queen Jenna Ortega, will reprise her already iconic role, despite her dropping out of another Netflix’s project, the animated series Jurassic World: Chaos Theory.
Wednesday Regulars: Who Returns in Season 2?
Firstly, we’ll have some characters elevated to the status of the show’s regulars. These include Catherine Zeta-Jones as Wednesday’s mother, Morticia, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams, the father of the family, Isaac Ordonez as their son Pugsley, and also Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo as Ritchie Santiago, the deputy of the local police department.

After the runaway success of Netflix and Tim Burton’s Addams Family stand-alone series Wednesday starring Jenna Ortega, the streamer renewed it for second season in January 2023. That decision came less than three months after the eight-episode Season 1 premiered, eventually becoming the most-watched original series ever on the streamer ever with more than 252 million views to date, far surpassing Stranger Things‘ Season 4, Dahmer and Season 1 of Bridgerton on the all-time list.
Season 1 ending up scoring 12 Emmy nominations, including for Ortega in Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, becoming just the third Latina to ever be nominated in a leading actress category. The series won four Emmys, though Ortega lost out to Abbott Elementary‘s Quinta Brunson on Emmy night.

Cue "Goo Goo Muck" by The Cramps -- because it's time for "Wednesday" fans to get their groove back on. The second season of Netflix's immensely popular "Addams Family" spinoff series is now officially in production in Ireland after being postponed due to last year's extremely necessary dual actors and writers' strikes. Jenna Ortega will once again lead the way as the titular character, who is still her usual unsmiling and morbid self here. Well, except that, in a twist that left a lot of longtime "Addams Family" enthusiasts confused, season 1 transformed Wednesday into a cross between a Veronica Mars-style teen sleuth and a superhero, complete with heretofore unknown psychic powers.
While our own review wasn't keen on season 1, "Wednesday" broke out in a major way with the youths, not least of all thanks to characters like Wednesday's bubbly werewolf roommate -- and, should all the "Wenclair" shippers get their way,...

Netflix on Tuesday morning unveiled the series regular and guest cast for the upcoming second season of its hit Addams Family spinoff series Wednesday, headlined by Jenna Ortega.
As the announcement suggests — and Deadline has confirmed with sources — three Season 1 series regulars whose characters were alive and well in the finale — Percy Hynes White, Jamie McShane and Naomi J Ogawa — will not be returning in that capacity next season.
Of the three, only McShane is slated to reprise his Sheriff Donovan Galpin role as a guest star, likely to wrap the story of his character who was left devastated in the Season 1 finale by the discovery that his son Tyler (Hunter Doohan) was the Hyde after the sheriff shot and temporarily incapacitated the monster.

Season 2 of the hit Netflix Addams Family series Wednesday is expected to start filming in Ireland (season 1 was shot in Romania) sometime in late April, and during an interview with Vanity Fair the show’s star Jenna Ortega confirmed that she is about to get ready to return to the world of Wednesday Addams, revealing that she has been reading the season scripts recently – and promising that every episode of the new season will have something that will make it stand out and be memorable.
Vanity Fair asked Ortega about a previous quote where she said Wednesday season 2 will be more episodic, with each episode coming off like a standalone movie, and that it would lean further into horror. Jenna Ortega told E! on the Emmys red carpet that she’s “received some scripts for the second season” of “Wednesday,” her Netflix mega-hit that debuted in fall 2022 and became one of the streamer’s most-watched original series of all time. Production on Season 2 got delayed by the Hollywood strikes last year but is expected to kick off in the spring.
“We’re definitely leaning into a little bit more horror,” Ortega said in an update to fans. “It’s really, really exciting because, all throughout the show, while Wednesday does need a little bit of an arc, she never really changes and that’s the wonderful thing about her.
Ortega continued, “There’s really, really good one-liners and I think everything’s bigger. It’s a lot more action-packed. Each episode will probably feel a little bit more like a movie, which is nice.”

Netflix is looking for ways to expand the universe of hit drama Wednesday, which reportedly involves developing a spin-off featuring Uncle Fester.
The Addams Family has been a perennial presence on the big and small screen since Charles Addams’ comics were adapted into the original television show in 1964.
Since then, there have been reunion television films and animated series, but the franchise arguably hit its peak in the 1990s with the release of feature films The Addams Family and it’s arguably even better sequel Addams Family Values.
Very few people talk about Addams Family Reunion which, although it features a scenery chewing turn from Tim Curry, failed to make an impact, much like The New Addams Family, the television series which followed soon after, which is only really worth watching for the episode where John Astin, the original Gomez, returns as Grandpapa Addams.

Jenna Ortega is sharing some major insight into "Wednesday" season two. "It's still coming together, but we've decided we want to lean into the horror more," Ortega, who stars as Wednesday, told Elle Fanning in an article published by Variety on June 7 as part of their "Actors on Actors" series. Netflix announced the show had officially been renewed on Jan. 6, with a short teaser featuring footage of Ortega alongside scenes from the show and clips of fan events. The video also used Lady Gaga's "Bloody Mary" as its soundtrack, a song that became associated with the show on TikTok. "The global phenomenon will return for season two," Netflix said in the clip.

Once Jenna Ortega was hard at work playing the title character on Netflix’s Addams Family series Wednesday, she became so dedicated to making sure the title character came off just right that she would even change lines from the way they were written in the scripts. But during an interview with the UK’s Times, she revealed that she initially passed on the chance to star in Wednesday.

This post contains mild spoilers for the first season of "Wednesday."
After its first season became a surprise smash hit for Netflix, it's no surprise that more "Wednesday" is already on the way. The streamer has ordered a second season of the goth girl reimagining of "The Addams Family," and while fans wait around, questions about where the show will go next are already beginning to pile up. Will Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) abandon the love triangle and possibly strike up a romance with her roommate and bestie Enid (Emma Myers)? Who started stalking the psychic teen in the finale's final moments? And of course: Will our favorite members of the Addams family make return appearances?
The last question was one /Film's Ryan Scott asked actor Luis Guzmán when he caught up with the "Story Ave" star ahead of that movie's festival premiere this week. Scott asked Guzmán if audiences should...

Jenna Ortega, star of Netflix’s hit Addams Family series Wednesday, has previously said she had to struggle with directors on the show who didn’t always trust the approach she was taking to the character. Starting with Tim Burton, who directed half of the show’s first season and didn’t want Ortega to show any expression or emotion at all. Something she didn’t feel would work for a lead character who had to push the plot forward. Now in an interview with Variety, Ortega revealed that she also had to change lines from the scripts because they weren’t true to her character.
Ortega said, “I don’t think I’ve ever had to put my foot down more on a set in a way that I had to on Wednesday. Everyhing that Wednesday does, everything I had to play, did not make sense for her character at all.

Since then, the show has grown to become the second biggest English language season of television on Netflix with over 1.2 billion hours viewed within its first 28 days, among other streaming series records.

Netflix has officially confirmed Wednesday will return for season two. The announcement was accompanied by a one-minute video in which Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) says thanks for being put through pure torture. (We all know how much Wednesday loves that!).
The video points out that over the course of a few weeks, she was hunted, haunted, and mimicked across the internet. Wednesday’s loving it and so are viewers who’ve made the series the second most popular show ever on Netflix.
“It’s been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world. Thrilled to continue Wednesday’s tortuous journey into season two. We can’t wait to dive headfirst into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first,” said creators, showrunners, and executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar in a feature on Tudum.
