Everything Squares Up
16 January 2020
A burglar breaks into a safe in a private home and removes a ring. A maid hears something and is killed. By the time the home owners come back, the police are there. The wife tells them that nothing is missing. She speaks to her lawyer, Conrad Phillips. The ring is from her lover, Anthony Newlands. She lied to the police, because if her husband found out, he would divorce her. She gives Phillips cash and asks him to get the ring back. The trail leads to four other pieces from the same set, all gifts of Newlands to his assorted lovers.

It's one of the small second features in the Edgar Wallace series, with all his trademark gimmicks, and Demi-monde atmosphere. Although clearly cheaply shot, it is quit compelling because of the strong screenplay by James Eastwood, and the excellent, although minor actors available in the period. A fine way to spend an hour.
