Sex & Nudity

  • As Agent Starling is searching for the killer near the end of the movie, Polaroids of exotic dancers are seen tacked to a doorframe in the basement. Not much nudity visible. Not a very lengthy scene what so ever.
  • Some crude references are heard throughout the prison.
  • A man dances naked in front of a camera with his penis tucked between his legs so he can look like a woman. His pubic hair is clearly seen though. Not too graphic.
  • Several photos of fully nude females but only showed from behind. Scene is very short.
  • An inmate masturbates to a woman who walks past him and throws his ejaculation at the woman when she walks past him again. It's seen hitting her in the face. Not overly graphic.
  • All pretty graphic sexual scenes are presented in the uncensored version or on dvd.
  • A nude female body is briefly seen on an autopsy table. Very light nudity.

Violence & Gore

  • The actual amount of killing and violence is condensed mainly into the last 20 minutes although the worst stuff isn't usually fully onscreen.
  • A man is shown wearing another man's cut off face. Quite a bit of blood is shown. Is done off-screen.
  • A man bites a prison guard on the face (bloody), and then beats another prison guard to death. Very bloody and the bloody dead body is later shown for a long time.
  • A man is shot to death and blood sprays out of his body. He is later shown lying on the floor, dying with blood spraying from his mouth.
  • A dead body is shown on top of an elevator with lots of blood. He is shot in the leg (blood sprays), and then falls through the elevator. He is shown from the back, but torn skin on his head is shown, implying his face has been cut off.
  • Very graphic but infrequent violence. More shocking and disturbing than overly gory.
  • The film isn't as disturbing as it is violent.
  • The dead body of a prison guard is shown hung from a prison cell in a mimicry of the crucifixion scene. The guard's stomach is cut with guts hanging out, and the top of his head is ripped open as well. The camera pushes in on the body. Very bloody and graphic.
  • We see very graphic crime photos of the dead bodies of women in a lot of scenes. An autopsy scene shows the dead, nude, and decomposing body of a woman.
  • An old woman's body is seen briefly in a bathtub full of purple colored acid.
  • Few brief references to cannibalistic acts.

Profanity

  • Around a dozen usages of 'fuck'.
  • 2 or more uses of the c word c*nt both used in the same scene.

Sex & Nudity

  • Dr. Lecter jokingly asks Clarice if she was ever "beaten" by her uncle.
  • A shot of the 'Woman Suit' that Buffalo Bill is creating from dead bodies shows breasts and pubic hair is visible for a short time. Disturbing. This is only included in the uncensored version of the movie.

Violence & Gore

  • A dead corpse is seen on the roof of an elevator (we assume it is Hannibal Lector), blood is seen on his back. The corpse is shot in the leg with some blood spurting. Blood is dripping from the ceiling of the elevator, the hatch to the ceiling is then opened and the corpse flings out of the ceiling.
  • When Hannibal escapes from prison, he bites off part of a man's cheek (it's somewhat implied). He then smacks the man's head against the cell and sprays mace in his eyes. He then hits the other on the head with a night stick offscreen. Blood is still seen on his face.
  • Buffalo Bill, the film's primary antagonist uses butterflies to put inside peoples' throats after killing them, we can see it at the corpse reveal scene at the middle of the film.
  • Clarice shoots Buffalo Bill six times in the chest, he spits up blood and gurgles as we briefly see the bloody bullet wounds.
  • During Hannibal's escape, he wears the face of a dead guard as a disguise. His own face is completely covered in blood.
  • A woman is kidnapped by a psychopath and kept in a pit in their basement. No violence befalls her, but they plan on starving and skinning her, as they have with their other victims.
  • As the Senator's daughter has been kidnapped, she's yelling at Buffalo Bill, the film's villain, to let her go, although he doesn't want to release her because of his desire to become a woman through using her skin, she screams in fright as she looking at the pit's walls, in which there are a few dead bodies and blood.
