“One More Night,” Phil Collins’ lovelorn 1985 single, received the Kelly Clarkson cover treatment on Wednesday’s episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show. The musician performed the ballad backed by My Band Y’all, capturing the tender essence of the original.
“I know there’ll never be a time you’ll ever feel the same/And I know it’s only words/But if you change your mind, you know that I’ll be here/And maybe we both can learn,” she sang, drawing out the final note on each lyric.

Mitchell Block, the executive and Oscar-nominated documentarian who was behind such powerful films as Poster Girl, Big Mama and The Testimony, has died. He was 73.
Block died Thursday night of natural causes at his home in Eugene, Oregon, his daughter, Anja Block, told The Hollywood Reporter.
Block was a consultant for Sheila Nevins at HBO for about a decade, and he received his Oscar nom (shared with director Sara Nesson) for producing the network’s Poster Girl (2010). The 38-minute film follows the struggles of Robynn Murray, who battled Ptsd after returning from the Iraq War.
Earlier, he was an executive producer on the Oscar-winning short documentary Big Mama (2000), about Viola Dees, an 89-year-old woman fighting to retain custody of her rebellious grandson, Walter.
Two other short documentaries he worked on, The Testimony (2015), about the largest rape trial in the history of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Women of the...

My favorite scene in the hilarious new film “The Fall Guy” is the one where Emily Blunt (recent Best Supporting Actress Oscar nominee for “Oppenheimer”) belts out the Phil Collins classic “Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)” as Ryan Gosling (recent Best Supporting Actor Oscar nominee for “Barbie”) finds himself in a particularly dramatic — and dangerous — sequence of events.
As Blunt sang with all her heart, I couldn’t help but think of how perfect the timing was.
Forty years ago this very month, the famous power ballad had just completed a three-week reign on top of the Billboard Hot 100. “Against All Odds” was the title song from the romantic thriller starring Jeff Bridges, Rachel Ward and James Woods. The Taylor Hackford-directed movie was met with solid reviews and healthy ticket sales. But its most notable success was Collins’s song, which quickly took the Billboard chart by storm.

In the space of Infinite Wealth’s first hour, everybody’s favorite ex-yakuza himbo, Ichiban Kasuga, goes from gainfully employed job recruiter, to unofficial job recruiter for those with criminal records, to unemployed loser, to internet-cancelled pariah, to McConaughey-esque beach bum, to homesick mama’s boy, to cop-punching fugitive, and, finally, back to his natural state: delusional, self-appointed, street-wise hero. Again, that’s the first hour of the game.
The irony in Infinite Wealth, though, is that the sheer whiplash of Kazuga’s life is the thing that players will cling onto for stability as Like a Dragon takes its antics overseas to Hawaii. While folks of a certain age know a trip to Hawaii is usually what happens when a beloved series is out of ideas, the tropical setting makes for a pretty perfect fit with Like a Dragon, being a Japanese-friendly place that’s nonetheless distinctly American, with all that implies.

The video opens with a trio of near-identical white men, all grinning broadly and kissing, hugging, and goofing off in front of the camera. The voice-over is chirpy and energetic, the way most TikTok VOs are: “If you would have told me one year ago that I would be going to Korea with my TikTok-famous gay throuple, I would’ve said, ‘yeah, that makes sense….for somebody else.'”
If nothing else, Vancouver-based TikToker Adam Joshua, one of the three men in the video, knows the power of a good opening line.

Phil Collins has made plenty of hits, but his most famous song is, without a doubt, the 1981 single “In the Air Tonight.” The rock band frontman shared the heartbreaking reason that led him to start making the album and its hit song.
Phil Collins found major success as a solo artist
Collins was a member of the prog-rock band Genesis, but in 1979, the band was taking a break. During that time, Collins wrote and recorded his debut solo album, Face Value, which went No. 1 in the UK and held the 7th place spot on the US Billboard chart.
Face Value contained plenty of hit songs, including “In the Air Tonight,” which went on to become Collins’ biggest hit. Other popular singles included “I Missed Again” and “If Leaving Me Is Easy.”

NewFilmmakers Los Angeles has announced the nominees for the 10th annual Best of Nfmla Awards.
Nfmla is a nonprofit organization that supports emerging filmmakers and artists through a monthly series of screenings and events in Los Angeles. The nominees for its Best of Nfmla slate are comprised of films that have screened as part of the Nfmla Monthly Film Festival selection in 2021. This year, the awards honor 125 nominees across 16 categories, including achievements in features, documentaries, shorts, experimental media and a best new filmmaker award.
“We are so proud to be able to highlight the incredible talent of all of our nominees, who have each created such inspiring work,” Nfmla programming director Bojana Sandic said in a statement.
15,000 will be provided to select Best of Nfmla winners, a practice that began last year to celebrate the career of recently passed producer Anthony Rhulen, who launched the indie producing company FilmEngine.

The 37th Grammy Awards, held in March 1995, were an especially influential ceremony thanks to Tony Bennett’s controversial Album of the Year win for “MTV Unplugged,” which led the academy to introduce their now-infamous and now-deceased nomination review committees to decide the ultimate contenders. But there was a more overlooked result that took place on the same night, and it was actually pretty rare: Sheryl Crow (“All I Wanna Do”) and Bruce Springsteen (“Streets of Philadelphia”) split the awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year, respectively. That was actually the last time that two songs split those awards when both songs were nominated in both categories.
Prior to Crow/Springsteen, Record and Song of the Year had split like that only seven times:
1963: “I Left My Heart In San Francisco” by Tony Bennett (Record) and “What Kind of Fool Am I?” by Sammy Davis Jr....

Exclusive: David Vigliano, the literary agent who has repped authors from Oprah Winfrey and David Mamet to Chip and Joanna Gaines and Val Kilmer, the latter of whom just published a bestseller, has re-acquired his publishing assets from Y Entertainment Group.

The 2018 Grammy nominations were a triumph for diversity, with far more hip-hop and R&b nominees in the top categories than ever before.
In a way, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that an organization devoted to supporting and honoring music would recognize the current ascendance of hip-hop as the dominant popular music form. But it is something of a delicious shock, because since they began in the 1950s, the Grammys have not exactly been inclusive.
No hip-hop song, for instance, has ever won Record of the Year or Song of the Year. You could argue that they’ve been shortsighted when it comes to rock music and Latin music and jazz and other genres, too, that there’s an inevitable conservatism that comes from having a huge body of voters considering such a vast musical landscape.
But the decades worth of snubs and oversights are not pretty. A timeline:

After a successful run of dates last year on what he cheekily dubbed Not Dead Yet tour, Phil Collins will return to the States for a sequel, the somewhat clunkily-titled Still Not Dead Yet, Live! trek, which kicks off this fall. The tour will hit 15 cities all around the country.

The year 2018 is not what you would call a Larry Clark moment. The director of “Kids,” “Bully,” “Wassup Rockers,” and the new “Marfa Girl 2” — yes, he has made a sequel to a film that virtually no one saw — is now 75 years old, and he may be the cinema’s last shameless mystic of forbidden sexuality. These days, you know you’re watching a Larry Clark film when the sex scenes are real as opposed to simulated, when the close-ups of genitals (mostly male) are multiple and looming and adoring, and when the performers are non-professional actors whose job is to live up to an ideal of skinny hard-bodied youthful tumescence.
That’s been the Larry Clark fetish going back to his two fabled books of transgressive photographs, “Tulsa” (1971) and “Teenage Lust” (1983), and in 50 years of flesh-gazing it hasn’t changed much. Neither has the fundamental controversy that surrounds and...

Earlier this year, D.J. Caruso’s Disturbia turned 10 years old, and since I was already chatting with him for Happy Death Day, I could not resist chatting with Christopher Landon about the project, which became a turning point in his career as a then up-and-coming screenwriter with huge aspirations.
He discussed how Martha Stewart was the inspiration behind Disturbia, as well as how he channeled his own personal grief into the script. Landon also gave his thoughts on why we always need good PG-13 horror films (and that’s a sentiment this writer is very much in agreement with).
One movie that I feel deserves a little more love is Disturbia, and it turned ten years old earlier this year. I really enjoyed it, and I know it's cool to hate on Shia Labeouf now and everything, but I loved him in it. And he has this great relationship with Carrie-Anne Moss,...

Hello, good evening and welcome to our first Voice UK live blog of 2015. In a neat twist of fate, we're going live at the same time as this year's hopefuls. How about that?
Based on previous series of the spinning-chair spectacular, don't expect any overly harsh judicial criticism from the coaching panel - but do expect the Top 12 contestants to take to the stage, plus performances from reigning Voice UK champion Jermain Jackman and the omnipresent Olly Murs.
Join us from 7.15pm tonight to find out how it all pans out. Maybe, if we're all really good, we'll even get a 'Yeah!' from the one and only Sir Tom Jones.

21:54Smooth-voiced series 3 champ Jermain Jackman is back in the house, sharply attired in Voice UK red. 'How Will I Know' is a solid enough first single - but I think it undersells his talent, which is a bit of a shame.

Principal photography is underway on Warner Bros. Pictures’ Arms & The Dudes, starring Oscar nominee Jonah Hill (“The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Moneyball”) and Miles Teller (“Whiplash”).
“The Hangover” trilogy director and Oscar nominee Todd Phillips (“Borat” screenplay) is directing the film.
Based on a true story, Arms & The Dudes follows two friends in their early 20s (Hill and Teller) living in Miami during the Iraq War who exploit a little-known government initiative that allows small businesses to bid on U.S. Military contracts. Starting small, they begin raking in big money and are living the high life. But the pair gets in over their heads when they land a $300 million deal to arm the Afghan Military—a deal that puts them in business with some very shady people, not the least of which turns out to be the U.S. Government.

You might not have noticed it at the time, but Jonny Gray‘s collected Season 5 performances on The Voice doubled as a journey through rock-music history.
“What was cool about my time on the show is that I got to hit every era of music: I did the 2000s with The Killers, I did the ’70s with Petty, I did the ’60s with The Beatles, I did the ’90s with The Verve and then I finished it off in the ’80s with Phil Collins. I hit the last 50 years of music!”

‘Voice’ fans were given five minutes to tweet the name of the artist they wanted to save Nov. 12, and after all was said and tweeted, Kat Robichaud was rescued over Josh Logan and Jonny Gray. Twitter voters, you done wrong!
It’s not that Kat Robichaud, 29, is a bad performer. It’s just that The Voice‘s fifth season is so chock-full of better talent — like, say, Jonny Gray and Josh Logan — they she didn’t deserve that save.
Josh Logan: ‘Man In The Mirror’ Deserved The Save
Now, I’m not going to lie and claim that Jonny and Josh are the show’s best performers. Between Matthew Schuler and Jacquie Lee, Team Christina essentially already has this season in the bag. But Josh absolutely crushed the iconic “Man In The Mirror” on the Nov. 11 show.

With double eliminations each week, the remaining singers push their vocal boundaries to make it through to the top 10.
The Voice has always been a show of upsets -- not necessarily because the wrong singers are eliminated too early, but because so many singers are sent home every week in general. America said goodbye to a whopping eight singers on Thursday night, and nearly every upcoming week until the finals will rid the competition of two singers, regardless of whose team they’re from. That means any of the coaches -- Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine – could be out of the running as early as next week.

Prediction: Tuesday night’s installment of The Voice will be as painful as cardboard paper cut, as unpopular as the words “Paris Hilton’s pop-culture comeback” and as unwelcome as the “shot through some sorority chick’s ‘heart fingers’” camera angle employed during Matthew Schuler’s Top 12 performance of “Hallelujah.”
Believe it or not, I mean this in no way as an insult to NBC’s juggernaut singing competition. It’s just that, with not a single singer bellyflopping into the very deep talent pool Monday night, the prospect of two impending eliminations seems somehow illegal, or at the very least heartbreaking.

The Voice‘s top 12 contestants took the stage Nov. 11 for a live face-off of epic proportions — and no, I’m not just saying that because Matt Lauer was in attendance. It really was a huge episode full of incredible talent, but only one singer received a standing ovation from all four coaches: Team Blake’s Cole Vosbury! The bearded powerhouse took a huge risk performing Miguel‘s “Adorn,” but his gamble totally paid off in the end.
‘The Voice’ Top 12: Who Else Shone Bright?
Caroline Pennell was first on the stage, and she set the bar pretty high with her crowd-pleasing — no, she literally walked into the crowd at one point — performance of “Wake Me Up.” Even Blake Shelton had to tip his (metaphorical) hat to Caroline,...

Long before they were co-workers at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce, "Mad Men" stars Jay R. Ferguson (Stan Rizzo) and Vincent Kartheiser (Pete Campbell) were teen heartthrobs in the '90s.
As Pajiba recently pointed out, native Texan Ferguson was plucked out of obscurity to play the role of Ponyboy Curtis in the TV adaptation of the feature film "The Outsiders" in 1989. He moved out to Los Angeles at the age of 14 for the part and has been working pretty steadily since.
Here he is in 1990:

After "The Outisders" was cancelled 13 episodes in, Ferguson was cast in the Burt Reynolds-fronted sitcom "Evening Shade." He starred on the CBS comedy as Reynolds' character's eldest son throughout the show's four-season run.

Chicago – With the popularity of TV’s “The Walking Dead,” and just the whole trend of faux zombie gatherings in social culture, the undead have never been more popular. A distinct twist on the concept is found in “Warm Bodies,” starring Nicholas Hoult and Teresa Palmer, portraying two very unlikely lovers, alive or undead.
“Warm Bodies is directed by Jonathan Levine (“50/50”) and takes place in a post-apocalyptic USA, where normal humans are walled off from brain eating zombies. LIke director and zombie master George Romero, Levine brings to visual life his own script using metaphor, emotion and humor to navigate the landscape of the undead.

Craig here with Take Three. This week: Peter Sarsgaard
Take One: Garden State (2004)
Including Garden State as a Take Three take meant two things: watching one of Sarsgaard’s very best supporting performances again and watching the actual film again. The charm of the former outweighed the task of the latter. Despite essentially disliking the film, Sarsgaard makes it worth seeing. You get no sad, woe-is-me moping from him, nor do you get “original” moments of screechy-unique arm waving. His character, Mark, a grave digger, comes from the ‘insta-best friend’ vault of movie characters, but it’s what Sarsgaard does with it that makes all the difference. He’s essentially present to take a face full of Braff’s woefulness. During an abysmal rainy shout-a-thon into a large pit, he's on gooseberry duty, forced to awkwardly stand around whilst Braff and Portman snog each other’s faces off. But Sarsgaard lingers with style.

London -- British singer and drummer Phil Collins has used his personal website to announce his retirement in a bid to clarify recent speculation over his career.
In a post titled "Breaking News," the London-born multiple Grammy award winner said he wanted to explain his reasons "for calling it a day" in response to articles claiming he was quitting the music business.
"Many of the articles printed over the last few months have ended up painting a picture of me that is more than a little distorted," Collins, 60, explained in the message posted Monday.
He said he is stopping music so he can be a full time father to his two young sons "on a daily basis" – not because of bad reviews, bad press or because he doesn't "feel loved."
Speculation about a possible last act for Collins was sparked by an interview in April's issue of FHM magazine in...

You'd think a movie might struggle to capture the intricacy of the Beach Boys' music, but, with Zadan behind it, God only knows
After Mamma Mia! found success at cinemas from Barrow-in-Furness to Bangkok, copycat projects seemed inevitable. A cinematic musical inspired by the work of Suicidal Tendencies, perhaps, or Another Day in Paradise – the heartwarming tale of a homeless man who learns to dance, set to the music of Phil Collins. I first stumbled on Mad Men channel surfing through On Demand one idle evening, watched the first episode, and was hooked by its sexiness and considerable style. I was pleased to see that the series featured January Jones—whose performance as a disillusioned young bride in The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada moved me to melancholy—and it was sweet to see her once again distractedly smoking cigarettes to stave off ennui. Though I couldn’t quite place him at first, it was equally intriguing to watch Vincent Kartheiser as the obsequious Pete Campbell; a far cry from his heartfelt performance in Larry Clark’s Another Day In Paradise. But, of course, it was Jon Hamm as Don Draper who captivated my attention for being bracingly handsome; the kind of man American culture let get away; and the kind of man Mad Men has winningly resurrected with full intent to deconstruct.

Montecito slate adds two projects
The Montecito Picture Co. is ramping up its development slate by pre-emptively picking up two projects, one a spec script, the other a pitch. Spec Disturbia is written by Christopher Landon and is described as a teen thriller homage to Rear Window. Grand Theft Otto, picked up by Montecito as a pitch, is being written by Greg Schaffer and Steve Joe. Alec Berg and Jeff Schaffer, who made Eurotrip with Montecito, also are producing. Otto is a buddy action comedy that has child rapper-actor Bobb'e J. Thompson attached to star. Thompson appeared on The Tracy Morgan Show, which is where he first met Schaffer and Joe. Thompson also did voice work for Shark Tale and That's So Raven The company's Jackie Marcus brought in the projects and will produce along with Montecito principals Ivan Reitman, Tom Pollock and Joe Medjuck. The company has a first-look deal with DreamWorks. Landon co-wrote Another Day in Paradise with Melanie Griffith and James Woods. He also was a writer on Blood and Chocolate. Landon is repped by UTA and manager Kevin Donahue. Schaffer and Joe wrote features Victory and Loco for Warner Bros. and Reverend Pimp Daddy for Sony. Their television credits include Rodney and Veronica's Closet. Schaffer, Joe and Thompson are repped by UTA. Thompson is additionally repped by Lauren Lloyd.

Hollywood actor James Woods is stirring up scandal by dating a women over thirty years his junior. The Another Day in Paradise (1998) actor, 53, took stunning 19-year-old ALEXY THORN to a string of Oscar parties last month. And now Woods, who insists Thorn "is going to be a big star because she is cooking, " has teamed up with close pal MARK DOWER to manage the teenage actress. But the relationship is reportedly much more the just a professional one. Woods says, "If you ever bought a dog what did you buy? You bought a f**king puppy...
