Crossovers between different fictional universes began in the first place for the simple fun derived from matching up characters against their equally formidable counterparts, which is why crossovers are more common in fighting-based narratives. The battles and 1-on-1 fights in Baki were completely different from what fans had normally seen in other anime and manga series; thus, it helped the series skyrocket toward success in a very short period of time.
