August will be a quiet month on Prime Video UK leading up to the arrival of The Boys season 2 in the first week of September, but there are still a few things to look forward to before Billy Butcher and co. get back to ridding the world of megalomaniacal superheroes and their enablers.
Towards the end of August on Prime, Stargirl will be streaming for UK viewers. The DC Universe show has received strong reviews and will be back for a second season eventually. If you’re already a fan of DC’s Doom Patrol, it will make for a sweeter and more teen-friendly companion show.
Elsewhere, Keira Knightley’s Official Secrets is worth a watch, and there are some classic bangers being added to the Prime library too, including Gravity, The Wedding Singer, Valerian, Magic Mike Xxl and The Notebook – but it wouldn’t be Den of Geek if...

Despite the fact that Solo was Disney’s biggest box office flop after taking over Star Wars in 2012, main star Alden Ehrenreich somehow captured almost everything we loved about Han Solo in the first place.
If we’re talking about numbers alone, though, a sequel is highly unlikely at this point. Disney’s tenure in the world of that galaxy far, far away has been nothing short of tumultuous, to say the least. And while fans still debate the penultimate and final movies in the Skywalker Saga, I think everyone will unanimously agree that Solo was a mediocre adventure flick. In fairness, though, the Mouse House has had some redeeming acts. The first season of The Mandalorian debuted to universal acclaim and the seventh and final season of The Clone Wars gave fans the satisfying ending that they had been longing to see ever since the show came to a...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “Brave New World,” streaming now on Peacock.
Alden Ehrenreich is no stranger to stepping into the worlds of iconic intellectual property: In 2013 he starred in the big-screen adaptation of Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl’s “Beautiful Creatures” and in 2018 joined the “Star Wars” universe as the titular Han Solo in “Solo: A Star Wars Story.” Now, comes his first television series regular role as John the Savage in David Wiener’s take on Aldous Huxley’s early 1930s novel “Brave New World.”
In the nine-episode first season of the futuristic dystopia, John saved an Alpha and a Beta from New London from a bloody attack during their vacation to the Savage Lands, where he grew up, only for him to learn that his true roots were in the caste-driven system of New London too. HBO Max is set to enter into its second month of existence. And you know what that means: it’s Christmas in July!
HBO Max’s list of new releases for July 2020 is highlighted by one prominent Christmas movie: last year’s Emilia Clarke-starring Last Christmas. But the real cause for Christmas in July is all the exciting animated DC content coming our way on the first of the month. July 1 sees the arrival of just about every animated Batman project ever created. July 1 also features the arrival of just about every Justice League animated series ever created as well.
If that weren’t enough, July 1 is also when every live-action Superman movie (save for Man of Steel) makes it streaming debut. July is starting to look like a month where HBO Max establishes its real potential and geek culture bonafides…despite an at-times difficult rollout.

When HBO Max launched last month, DC fans hoped it would be the premiere place to go to watch all their favorite DC content. While the streaming service did have an impressive array of films and TV shows available on launch, there were a lot of notable missing titles, too, due to pre-existing licenses getting in the way. As time goes on, though, more DC properties will end up on the site. Case in point: this July will see a whole heap of superhero content go up on HBO Max.

Logan Lerman, the star of the two Percy Jackson movies, took to Twitter this week to share his thoughts on the news that Disney Plus is developing a reboot of the franchise for the streaming service.
Percy Jackson arrived in theaters in 2010 at the height of the Ya adaptation craze. The early ‘00s saw the success of Harry Potter and by the end of the decade, there were a number of copycats. Twilight and The Hunger Games proved to be massive franchises while others, not so much.
Circling back to Lerman, though, and here’s what he had to share:
Excited to see this! Hope it gets the adaptation the books deserve. Congrats @rickriordan https://t.co/ReE6EjJICV
— Logan Lerman (@LoganLerman) May 14, 2020
As fans can tell you, Fox made two Percy Jackson movies and they were moderately successful thanks in large part to Harry Potter, which had a similar narrative.

Spooky season is upon us, and Hulu is getting into the spirit with a number of horror or Halloween-themed offerings on its October line-up.
Along with Hulu originals like the horror anthology “Into the Dark” and the second season of Stephen King’s “Castle Rock,” the streamer is also offering films from the “Saw,” “Blade” and “Hellraiser” franchises beginning next month. For the more faint of heart, Hulu is also offering three seasons of Food Network’s “Halloween Wars” and the surely adorable “Kids Halloween Baking Championship.”
Not specifically Halloween-themed, but potentially haunting: All six seasons of the original run of “The Hills” will be available to stream on Oct. 1 for those looking to revisit the halcyon days of reality television and questionable late-aughts fashion.

Exclusive: Alden Ehrenreich, who played the title character in Solo: A Star Wars Story, is set to lead the cast of Brave New World, a series adaptation of the Aldous Huxley novel, from Ucp and Amblin Television.

Last week it was reported that Marvel Studios was looking at Emma Watson (Harry Potter), Alice Englert (Beautiful Creatures), Dar Zuzovsky (Hostages, Neighborhood), and Florence Pugh (Fighting With My Family) to star alongside Scarlett Johansson in Black Widow.
Well, THR is reporting that Pugh is their choice and she is now in talks to join the movie. She was my favorite choice of the names mentioned above, so I’m pretty happy that she is the one that the studio went with. One of the reasons why the studio went with her was because of the strong reviews that she’s been getting for her role in Fighting With My Family.
The second female in Black Widow has been described as a “kick ass female Bond” type character. They were looking for an actress that is capable of a playing a physically demanding role who is said to also “feel similar to star Scarlet Johansson.

She was my favorite choice of the names mentioned above, so I’m pretty happy that she is the one that the studio went with. One of the reasons why the studio went with her was because of the strong reviews that she’s been getting for her role in Fighting With My Family.

Anchored by an enviable cast that includes Oscar nominee Olivia Colman, “Them That Follows” sinks its teeth into religious fanaticism in an isolated Appalachian mountain community, where an animal’s instinctual reactions are interpreted as a test of faith. Marking the feature debut of directors Britt Poulton and Dan Madison Savage, this tense, slow-burning drama premiered Sunday afternoon at the Sundance Film Festival.
Oppressively restrained, actress Alice Englert (“Beautiful Creatures”) stuns in the role of Mara, a young woman who acts as a quiet conduit for insight into the Pentecostal snake-handling church that her father runs. We meet her at a point in her life when steadfast, solid devotion has started to show cracks of doubt, as an explosive secret consumes her. Torn between Augie and her soon-to-be husband Garret, Mara feels confused while surrounded by men and women who only deal in absolutes and certainties.

Rachel Brosnahan topped many handicappers’ lists as the probable winner in the comedy lead actress category. So it was little surprise when she took the stage as winner for her role as an unlikely ’50s era comedian in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Her performance had already earned her a Golden Globe for Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy for her role as Miriam “Midge” Maisel.
Ok, there was a minor onstage tussle with presenter Tiffany Haddish who tried to wrest away Brosnahan’s Emmy statuette, but it was clearly all in fun.
Brosnahan offered the expected kudos to the comedy’s writers, creators, cast, crew and Amazon: “I’ll be thanking you for the rest of my life for trusting me with your Midge,” she said. Then she got just a wee bit political. While she did not directly address the diversity issue that ruled much of the night’s onstage banter,...

As we look ahead to the arrival of new and exciting film projects this week, we also take a look back at some of the interesting and/or noteworthy projects in-the-works that were recently added to IMDbPro's growing database of in-development titles. Here are a few that grabbed our attention lately:
Swindle – Once upon a time we thought films like Jennifer's Body featuring Megan Fox and Colombiana starring Zoe Saldana's would be sure fire hits at the box office based on their stars' previous blockbuster success (not to mention their pin-up poster appeal). But, we were wrong. Now, the two actresses are joining forces to beat the box office odds by co-starring in this action-heist flick from writers Enzo Mileti and Scott Wilson. Michael De Luca produces.
Action No. 1 – Reno 911! alumni-turned-Night of the Museum scribes Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon found real-life inspiration for their next comedy from actor Nic Cage. The theft of the Oscar-winner's prized comic book collection, including a copy of Superman's first appearance, by a crew of bumbling nerds is the basis for this film from Lionsgate. No word on who will portray Cage.
Untitled Barbara Jordan Biopic – The Help's Viola Davis is on a roll. Following up her recent Oscar nom with performances in the upcoming Ender's Game and Warner Bros.' Beautiful Creatures, the actress has formed her own company, JuVee Productions, along with her husband, Julius Tennon, to produce this feature film based on the life story of civil rights leader, Barbara Jordan, who became the first African American woman ever elected to the Texas senate.
The 5th Wave – Tobey Maguire's Material Pictures and Graham King's GK Films will team up to produce this sci-fi tale from writer Rick Yancey. The film centers on a girl looking for her lost brother after an alien invasion.
Zombie Broadway – Formerly one-half of the '80s New Wave act Eurythmics, musician Dave Stewart is now branching out into movies with this genre-crossing musical directed by Jonas Åkerlund. The pic follows a group of Broadway entertainers trying to stop a zombie invasion in New York City. Stewart's producing via his company, Weapons of Mass Entertainment.
