Starring Sosie Bacon and Alex Roe, the drug-focused drama feature Hazard is set to hit theaters early next year.
Writer-director Eddie Mensore’s film has been acquired by Emphatic Pictures and Rbl Films for theatrical release on Jan. 10, 2025, in the U.S, Canada, the U.K. and other territories. Steven Ogg and Dave Davis round out the cast for the movie that is set in the Appalachian mining town of Hazard, Kentucky, and explores the ongoing opioid crisis.
Hazard centers on Will (Roe), a reluctant drug dealer challenged with whether he can save his opioid-addled family as he tries to make a living and battle his own additions.
“Leave Hazard forever with me,” Roe tells partner Sara (Bacon) in the trailer. He adds, “Mining ain’t for me.” Bacon is concerned about their finances and wants to know, “You really got 10,000 saved?”

Chick-fil-a+. How does that sound? Is it catchy? That might just be the name of a new streaming service in the future. Yes, we're talking about the Chick-fil-a that serves some of the best chicken sandwiches and waffle fries you could ever eat!
The popular fast food restaurant chain is looking to join the streaming wars by launching its own streaming service. Who would've thought this would ever happen? We didn't see this coming at all. Like Netflix, Chic-fil-a will be creating original content as well as licensing and acquiring content for its streaming platform.
An official name for the streamer has not been announced yet, but the fast food company has reportedly been talking and working with major production companies on creating family-friendly, unscripted original shows. One show that's currently in the works and has been given a 10-episode order by Chick-fil-a is an upcoming game show from Glassman Media (The Wall) and Sugar23.

Paramount Global’s decision to shutter its namesake TV studio means the loss of dozens of jobs, the shifting of several series to another banner and a consolidation of power within the company’s two remaining TV studios — at least until a potential Skydance-Paramount merger is complete.
Paramount TV Studios ceased operations Aug. 16 as part of heavy layoffs at the parent company. Paramount is cutting 15 percent of its U.S.-based employees in an effort to lop $500 million off its balance sheet. The studio’s current productions, including the Prime Video hit Reacher and Apple TV+’s Time Bandits, along with upcoming shows Cross (Prime Video), Before and Murderbot (both at Apple TV+) and any projects in development, will move to corporate sibling CBS Studios.

Paramount Global is shutting down its namesake TV studio as the company embarks on a major round of layoffs.
Paramount Television Studios will cease operations at the end of the week, president Nicole Clemens and Paramount co-ceo George Cheeks told staff Tuesday morning. Clemens will exit the company, and all current series and projects in development at Paramount TV Studios — including Reacher, Apple’s Time Bandits and the upcoming Cross at Prime Video — will move under the CBS Studios umbrella.
Paramount announced last week that it would lay off 15 percent of its U.S. employees — on top of about 800 layoffs six months ago — as part of an effort to save $500 million in costs ahead of a planned merger with Skydance. Cheeks and fellow CEOs Brian Robbins and Chris McCarthy told staff earlier Tuesday that layoffs would begin that day and take place in three phases over the remainder of the year.

Avatar: The Last Airbender star Ian Ousley has nabbed the lead role in The Runner, a short film about a grief-stricken man haunted by his past from music video director Tony Tacheny.
Ousley plays Everett, a man living out of his van as he struggles to cope with the death of his wife, Abigail, played by Preslea Elliott. Isolated from friends and family, Everett is haunted by memories of traveling around the world in his van with his brother Cameron (Chasen Parker) and his late wife.
“The story of The Runner deals with how we experience traumatic events in our lives. It is so relatable and I’m grateful that Tony entrusted me with Everett as the film is such a personal story for Tony. This was the most challenging role I’ve taken on so far,” Ousley said in a statement.

Recasting happens all the time. Tragedy sometimes strikes, like in the case of Professor Albus Dumbledore in the "Harry Potter" series, where Michael Gambon assumed the role following the passing of the original performer, Richard Harris. Oftentimes, recasting is a result of scheduling conflicts, like when "May December" breakout star Charles Melton took over the role of Reggie Mantle on "Riverdale" due to original actor Ross Butler's scheduling conflicts with "13 Reasons Why." And sometimes a character is recast simply because they weren't right for the role, as was famously the case with Eric Stoltz, who was replaced by Michael J. Fox after six weeks of shooting "Back to the Future."
In all of these instances, fans were well aware of the recastings as they happened, but once a person has been playing a role long enough, audiences sometimes forget they were ever recast in the first place. This...

It's no secret that Netflix has been leading the pack of streaming platforms producing original content around the world for years. Netflix's productions are known for being high quality and high budget, but heavily dependent on viewership.
And while I can name a dozen Netflix series that I truly love, there are some that make me question the streamer's strategy. By canceling some of its better shows, it continues to give a platform to those stories that don't really deserve it. Here are 8 Netflix original series that get way more hype than they're worth.
Orange is the New Black (2013-2019)
We all know that this show has been praised for its progressive storytelling and provocative themes, and I can respect that. More than that, I was completely obsessed with it when it first aired. In retrospect, though, it just wasn't that good.

For viewers of a certain age — or, perhaps more likely at this point, most ages — the term “Brat Pack” evokes nostalgia at its fondest. Movies like “The Breakfast Club” and “Pretty in Pink” remain rites of passage for teenagers coming of age nearly 40 years later, and few would argue that the 1980s didn’t represent a high-water mark for teen movies. For actual members of that coterie of actors, it’s a little more complicated.
That’s especially true of Andrew McCarthy, who remains so conflicted about the term coined by David Blum in his June 10, 1985 cover story for New York that he made a documentary about it (after earlier publishing a memoir entitled “Brat”). A core Brat Packer whose filmography is headlined by the likes of “Pretty in Pink” and “St. Elmo’s Fire,” McCarthy has more recently stepped behind the camera and directed episodes of “Orange Is the New Black” and “13 Reasons Why,...

You’re watching your favorite show, and one of the main characters is in a jam.
He’s held captive by mercenaries and, for the past two episodes, has struggled to escape a labyrinthine prison. It’s unclear whether our hero will live or die, but the next episode opens with a warning: “The following contains a depiction of suicide. Viewer discretion is advised.” Welp, you think, I know how this story ends.
So what happens when trigger warnings need spoiler warnings? As content disclaimers trend in television, some viewers are taking issue when they give away crucial plot details or ruin surprises.
Take Netflix’s “Baby Reindeer,” which dulled a shocking assault scene with a preemptive warning reading, “The following episode contains depictions of sexual violence which some viewers may find troubling.” Or Apple TV+’s “Severance,” which tipped viewers off to an episode cliffhanger by revealing, “The following contains a depiction of self-harm.

After being blown away by the Prime Video adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s novel Daisy Jones & The Six, I decided to circle back and read the author’s debut novel, the “tragic love story” drama Forever, Interrupted… and as the story went on, I became more and more surprised that it hadn’t yet received an adaptation of some sort. It seemed ready to be brought to the screen as a heartbreaking and heartwarming movie or TV show, with solid roles for two lead actresses. Well, now it’s getting its adaptation. “13 Reasons Why” star Dylan Minnette says his pivot from acting to focus solely on his rock band, Wallows, happened when acting began to feel like “just a job.”

The 13 Reasons Why star, who has been working as an actor since he was 8 years old, got candid about his passions in a recent interview on the Zach Sang Show.

Exclusive: Death and Other Details co-creator/executive producer Mike Weiss has joined CBS’ drama series FBI as executive producer and showrunner. Meanwhile, Allen MacDonald has been tapped as executive producer and showrunner of NBC’s Chicago Med. Both Wolf Entertainment/Universal Television dramas are Top 10 broadcast series in Live+7 Nielsen viewership.
Weiss and MacDonald fill the showrunner vacancies left by the departures of veterans Rick Eid (FBI) and Diane Frolov and Andy Schneider (Chicago Med) who had been at the helm of the two series from the start. (Eid continues as showrunner of Wolf’s Law & Order.) The showrunners of the remaining FBI, Chicago and Law & Order series are staying put.
FBI, which recently scored a three-year renewal from CBS, is headed to its seventh season; Chicago Med is going into its 10th season.

In Apple TV+’s upcoming limited series, Jake Gyllenhaal hopes to be Presumed Innocent and not proven guilty.
Based on the New York Times bestselling novel of the same name by Scott Turow — which of course previously begat the 1990 Harrison Ford/Greta Scacchi/Bonnie Bedelia film — the eight-episode series covers a horrific murder that upends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorney’s office when chief deputy prosecutor Rusty Sabich (played by Gyllenhaal) is suspected of the crime. “The series explores obsession, sex, politics, and the power and limits of love, as the accused fights to hold his family and marriage together,” reads its official description.

And in that time, Thunell — who previously ran spectacle and event programming at the streamer — has completed his first major assignment from Skydance boss David Ellison and chief creative officer Dana Goldberg: doubling their TV series output.
Today, Skydance has five series in active production: Amazon’s “Reacher” and “Cross,” Netflix’s “Fubar,” Apple TV+’s’ “Foundation” and “The Big Door Prize,” as well as five new series orders setup across Amazon, Apple TV+ and Netflix, including a comedy, a YA series, an action series starring Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham, and a bull rider project led by Tim McGraw.
Skydance Television has also signed a first-look TV deal with filmmakers Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reggie Rock Bythewood’s Undisputed Cinema. The partners are about to sell their first series from the producing couple,...
