You’ve heard of “faith-based movies”? Well, “Heretic” is essentially the opposite. In A24’s thorny, impossible-to-anticipate thriller, co-directors Scott Beck and Bryan Woods (best known as the writers of “A Quiet Place”) ask audiences to accept Hugh Grant as a demented religious scholar so extreme, he’s arranged to trap two Mormon missionaries in his house and torment them into rejecting their faith in Joseph Smith and all his teachings.
The lesson this sicko has planned is to Bible study what “Saw” is to shop class. But this is Hugh Grant we’re talking about. When his character, the innocuously sweater-clad and bespectacled Mr. Reed, answers the door, the young women have no reason to question his motives, or his generous offer of fresh-baked blueberry pie.
These two proselytizers have come selling salvation. Beck and Woods are selling something else — namely, suspense — counting on Grant’s radically against-type turn...

Mark Duplass has always been at the forefront of the independent film movement. Whether it’s acting, directing, writing, or producing, Duplass does his best to keep things simple and not be beholden to anyone. While speaking with IndieWire’s Vincent Perella on the Emmys red carpet, the “Morning Show” nominee shared how he’s trying to bring the ethos of indie film projects like “Creep” and “Creep 2” into television with his upcoming TV series “Penelope,” as well his upcoming collaboration with Shudder, “The Creep Tapes.” If anyone can make indie TV have a true renaissance, it’s Duplass.

Back in 2014, writer/director Patrick Brice and co-writer/star Mark Duplass teamed up with Blumhouse Productions to bring us the found footage horror film Creep – which was so well-received that a sequel, appropriately titled Creep 2, followed in 2017. Before Creep 2 was even released, Brice confirmed that a third film was in development and was meant to wrap everything up as a trilogy – but along the way, the plan changed from making another feature to making a TV series called The Creep Tapes. Now Deadline has broken the news that the six-episode series is set to premiere on the Shudder and AMC+ streaming services on November 15th! “The series will launch with a two-episode premiere, followed by new episodes releasing weekly on Fridays on both platforms.”

Duplass will reprise his leading role in the six-episode Shudder Original series set to premiere Friday, November 15 on Shudder and AMC+. The series will debut with a two-episode premiere, followed by new episodes releasing weekly on Fridays on both platforms.
The Creep Tapes continues to unravel the mind of a secluded serial killer who lures videographers into his world with the promise of a paid job documenting his life. Unfortunately, as the tape rolls, the killer’s questionable intentions surface with his increasingly odd behavior, and the victims will learn they may have made a deadly mistake.

Hugh Grant has been doing a lot to dismantle his dashingly disheveled ’90s rom-com image in the past 15 years or more, but Heretic might be the film to blow it all to kingdom come. Written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, a key part of the creative team behind the thoughtfully unnerving A Quiet Place franchise, Heretic is a genuinely different kind of horror, one that uses conventions from all across the genre — from the old dark house movie to the straight-up slasher flick — and puts them in the service of a playful script that makes some seriously subversive comments about the world today.
Sporting Jeffrey Dahmer specs and a cardigan he has described offscreen as “wanky,” Grant plays the seemingly genial Mr. Reed. But before we get to his lived-in but oddly forbidding cottage, we meet the film’s leading ladies: Sister Barnes (Sophie Thatcher) and Sister...

Missionary work has always fascinated me. Not when it’s performed abroad as a means of indoctrinating people who might otherwise be unaware. I mean here, in America, where anyone fascinated with religion could simply walk up to a church, synagogue, or mosque and ask to learn. Yes, there’s a degree of marketing at play and companies have advertising budgets to spend in ways that also serve their flock by providing them a façade of purpose, but to have a door opened with a resident genuinely saying “you’ve converted me” is insane. It happens, though. People are impressionable. People are lonely.
That’s where Scott Beck and Bryan Woods leave us at the start of Heretic. With the question of which describes Mr. Reed (Hugh Grant) best. Because he did request information. The Church of Latter Day Saints wouldn’t have sent Sister Barnes (Sophie Thatcher) and Sister...

Classic rock is full of surprising anecdotes. For example, Radiohead only released one song that became much of a hit on the Billboard Hot 100. The tune doesn’t exactly seem like the sort of song that would appeal to a mass audience. However, the song has a meaning that lots of people can relate to — even if they wouldn’t want to admit it.
Radiohead wrote a perfect song about common and uncomfortable feelings
If you know one Radiohead song, it’s “Creep.” The fact that people have heard “Creep” but not other classic Radiohead tracks like “Fake Plastic Trees” or “Karma Police” has become an enduring meme among the band’s fans. It’s no accident that “Creep” is the most ubiquitous Radiohead song. It was their only tune to have any staying power on the Billboard Hot 100.
“Creep” doesn’t have the sort of sound that generally appeals to a mass audience.

Filmmakers Scott Beck and Bryan Woods have primarily written studio horror fare, like A Quiet Place and The Boogeyman, so their return to the indie sphere with A24’s Heretic was undoubtedly going to be met with skepticism. Although it’s not a great genre flick, it’s made enjoyable by a strong performance by Hugh Grant and some excellent crafts.

Heretic follows two Mormon missionaries who, while visiting a strange man’s house, discover that he harbors a disturbing worldview, kicking off a dangerous game of theological cat-and-mouse. Plot: Two Mormons (Chloe East and Sophie Thatcher) on a mission knock on the wrong door and find themselves fighting for their lives, faith, and sanity.
Review: Heretic is the latest horror flick from A24, and like many of their genre efforts, it’s a provocative one. Questions of theology and faith are always timely, and much of this diabolical and impressively harsh horror film deals with whether or not – in the face of great conflict – you can maintain your faith or be swayed by both the desire to save your own life and the evidence you’re being presented with.
In this, Sister Paxton (Chloe East) and Sister Barnes (Sophie Thatcher) are young Mormons fulfilling their duties as missionaries by essentially going door-to-door to try to convert people to their faith. Neither is a particular stickler for Mormon theology, with the movie opening with them discussing pornography and condoms,...

Brandon Lee’s The Crow soundtrack consisted of a bunch of iconic songs. It was executive produced by Jeff Most, the film’s producer, and Jolene Cherry, the film’s music supervisor. Most insisted that they wanted to create a soundtrack out of original songs and covers, that wasn’t available anywhere else. It was a challenging task at the time when films used established hit songs to make sure that the album would sell.

It was a difficult mission at the time but they managed to convince hard rock and heavy metal bands like Rage Against the Machine, Rollins Band, and Pantera, to create music for the film. The soundtrack had to undergo a few changes after Brandon Lee’s tragic accidental death. Jeff Most later regretted removing one song from the soundtrack during this time.

Part dance party, part deep dive, TLC Forever reminds audiences why this girl group remains so beloved. Directed by Matt Kay, the documentary travels back to 1991 as Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins hear their breakout hit “Ain’t 2 Proud 2 Beg” for the first time. From there, viewers follow TLC’s rise and the obstacles they faced on their journey. Whether legal battles, health issues, or the tragic loss of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, Chilli and T-Boz share it all with refreshing honesty.
Archival footage shows the trio having fun from early on. Their style stood out from typical girl groups in baggy clothes and bold attitudes. While other artists danced provocatively, TLC celebrated sexuality through empowerment. Songs like “Waterfalls” brought important messages too. Today considered pioneers, back then Missy Elliot says speaking freely “was a shock for women.”
Still, success came quickly with multiple platinum albums. The documentary...

There haven't been many films released in the last decade that could be described with the loud word "cult" — and Patrick Brice's Creep is on that short list.
A movie in the found footage genre made for pennies, it tells the story of Aaron, a videographer who finds a part-time job on the weekends — a man with an inoperable brain tumor named Josef asks him to shoot some short videos for his unborn son.
The work is sad, but not hard: Aaron has to spend a day with a strange man in a house outside the city. Aaron begins to notice Josef's strange behavior and realizes that he is not who he claims to be.

After a long seven years in hiding, Peachfuzz is getting ready to Creep back into our nightmares. Following a series of cryptic social media teases over the past week, Creep co-writer and star Mark Duplass has finally revealed that a follow-up to his and director Patrick Brice's fan favourite 2014 Netflix found footage horror and its underrated 2017 sequel Creep 2 is coming. And this time around, the wolf-mask wearing serial killer is getting the TV treatment with The Creep Tapes, a series chronicling several of Duplass' killer's many slayings. Check out the star's creepy TikTok reveal of Peachfuzz' return below;

The Creep Tapes is a TV adaptation of Mark Duplass and Patrick Brice’s own indie horror films, Creep and Creep 2. It’s heading to Netflix soon.
Actor and filmmaker Mark Duplass has made a TV series based on his own Creep horror films, and it’s coming soon to Netflix. Called The Creep Tapes, it’ll expand on the films’ found footage premise and continue their likeably awkward, blackly comic tone.
Released in 2014 and 2017 respectively, Creep and Creep 2 were both about filmmakers and their interactions with a decidedly eccentric character (played by an unblinking Duplass). To say too much more would risk spoiling things; we’ll simply add that, if you haven’t seen them yet, they’re well worth seeking out.
The Creep Tapes’ official description also assumes you’ve seen those earlier movies, so click the back button now if you don’t want to read potential spoilers.

Mark Duplass announced today he has completed production on The Creep Tapes, a half-hour horror TV series based on the Netflix original films Creep and Creep 2, in which he starred.
Duplass revealed the series on social media in a cryptic post with no audio and only the words “Coming Soon” at the end.
The series was independently produced by Duplass Brothers Productions. The company is presenting the series to buyers, with CAA handling world sales.
The Creep Tapes stars Duplass and is written and created by Duplass and the director of the original films, Patrick Brice, who also directed all episodes of the series. Chris Donlon is both editor and EP on the project.
Per Duplass, “the series is based on a collection of video tapes in the secret vault of the world’s deadliest and most socially uncomfortable serial killer, who hires his victims to film him for the day under false pretenses.

“Creep” is creeping back.
Duplass Brothers Productions has completed filming “The Creep Tapes,” a TV series based on the Netflix films “Creep” (2014) and “Creep 2” (2017). The project was independently produced without a distributor attached; CAA is now handling world sales.
Per the official description, “the series is based on a collection of video tapes in the secret vault of the world’s deadliest and most socially uncomfortable serial killer, who hires his victims to film him for the day under false pretenses. Each episode exposes a new victim from one of the fabled ‘Creep Tapes.’”
Mark Duplass co-wrote the original films along with Patrick Brice, who served as director. On “The Creep Tapes,” Duplass and Brice serve as co-creators with Brice directing all episodes. Chris Donlon serves as editor and executive producer, with Duplass, Jay Duplass and Mel Eslyn producing.

Back in 2014, writer/director Patrick Brice and co-writer/star Mark Duplass teamed up with Blumhouse Productions to bring us the found footage horror film Creep – which was so well-received that a sequel, appropriately titled Creep 2, followed in 2017. Before Creep 2 was even released, Brice confirmed that a third film was in development and was meant to wrap everything up as a trilogy. Seven years have gone by and we haven’t heard much more about Creep 3 – but IndieWire has just broken the news that the Creep franchise is set to continue with a TV series called The Creep Tapes!
Created by Brice and Duplass, the first season of The Creep Tapes has already made it through production. Now it’s being shopped around to potential buyers.

Seven years after the release of “Creep 2,” Mark Duplass is ready to return to his dryly comedic found footage horror franchise.
The multi-hyphenate has announced that he completed production on “The Creep Tapes,” an episodic series that promises to introduce horror fans to a new collection of victims from the vault of Duplass’ nameless killer. The series, co-created by Duplass and “Creep” director Patrick Brice (who also directed every episode), is currently being shopped to buyers.
The first “Creep” film released in 2014 at the tail end of the found footage horror renaissance launched by “Paranormal Activity” in 2007. It starred Duplass as a killer who hired a filmmaker to document his actions for a day as a ploy to lure him into a dark trap. 2017’s “Creep 2” used a similar formula, with Duplass’ character taking a different name and working with a different filmmaker. The series will take fans...

[Update: Variety has confirmed that "Creep 3" is actually "The Creep Tapes," a new series! This article has been updated with additional information.]
Babe, wake up! New "Creep" sequel news just dropped! 10 years ago, Mark Duplass and Patrick Brice unleashed the found footage film "Creep," in which an aspiring filmmaker named Aaron (Brice) answers an ad posted on Craiglist by an allegedly terminally ill man named Josef (Duplass) looking to make videos for his unborn child to watch after he's passed. Aaron arrives to record Josef's "day in the life" videos believing he's doing something noble, but quickly realizes that there's something seriously wrong with the man who hired him for the job.
The film arrived seven years after the success of "Paranormal Activity" inspired an explosion of found footage horror, which at this point had jumped the shark in terms of practical believability. "Creep" dropped on Netflix and became a huge hit through word of mouth,...

The music video for Disturbed’s haunting cover of the Simon & Garfunkel classic “The Sound of Silence” has surpassed 1 billion views on YouTube.
Disturbed’s version of the song appeared on their 2015 album, Immortalized, and was bolstered by a stirring live rendition on TBS’ Conan in March 2016. In fact, the Conan performance has 146 million views itself on YouTube. For comparison sake, the most viewed video of Simon & Garfunkel performing the song has 134 million views.

Paul Simon himself endorsed Disturbed’s potent take on the song, emailing his approval to singer David Draiman: “Really powerful performance on Conan the other day. First time I’d seen you do it live. Nice. Thanks.”
Draiman replied to Simon at the time, “Mr. Simon, I am honored beyond words. We only hoped to pay homage and honor to the brilliance of one of the greatest songwriters of all time.

Surely you have seen Shutter Island or Gone Girl – these are classic thrillers that have been recognized by both viewers and critics. However, the genre is full of projects that have gone unnoticed – and undeservedly so, as there are real gems among them that are better than many big-budget films.
1. Coherence, 2013
James Ward Byrkit's Coherence is one of those movies made on a dime that can outshine big commercial blockbusters. There are no spectacular special effects, but Coherence has something better: a really unusual and, most importantly, scientifically accurate idea about traveling to parallel realities.
The plot revolves around a group of friends who are affected by Miller's comet, which unexpectedly approaches Earth. Byrkit, who is best known for his theatrical work, decided not to shoot the film according to script, but instead allowed his actors to improvise – most of Coherence is based on dialogues that were literally born in the moment.

Fresh from Panic Fest 2024, The Ceremony is About to Begin unwraps itself like a meticulously preserved mummy, serving up a fresh twist on the horror mockumentary scene. Directed by Sean Nichols Lynch, this found footage film cleverly marries the allure of ancient Egyptian rituals with the chilling uncertainty of cult dynamics, all captured through a ‘documentary’ lens.

During her Celebration Tour in Atlanta, Madonna named the producer she was enamored with in 1994 when she recorded her album Bedtime Stories.
In between her songs, Madonna, 65, gave audiences a peek into her past romances. The singer claimed she was “madly in love with him” despite him treating her like “s—.” One fan posted a video of the confession to X, captioned, “Madonna spilling hot tea.”
“I’m just saying, you did, you dogged me, bro,” Madonna said. “It’s ok, I understand. You were just a boy. But I hope you’ve grown up by now.”

The 30-year-old “yes, and?” pop star was the musical guest on the March 9 episode of the popular late-night show to celebrate the release of her new album eternal sunshine.
She made the absolute most of her cameo, performing two songs off the album’s tracklist, appearing in two skits and collaborating with her Wicked costar Bowen Yang. We pulled together the clips of every moment for you to check out.
Head inside to watch the biggest moments from Ariana Grande’s SNL appearance…
Ariana referenced her newly released music video while performing new single “we can’t be friends (wait for your love).” She returned to the stage following an introduction from her mom Joan to round out her night with “imperfect for you.” She sang the delicate ballad amid a field that could have come straight from Oz.

Ariana Grande and Bowen Young could not keep it together during a sketch on Saturday Night Live tonight.
The pair brought to life songs that did not make it into the hit film Moulin Rouge which included “Up Where We Belong,” originally sung by Jennifer Warnes and Joe Cocker; “Do-Re-Mi” by Julie Andrews; “Creep” by TLC; “Happy Birthday”; and “Pride (In the Name of Love)” by U2 among others.
While they made it nearly all the way through the sketch before breaking character, Yang began to lose focus while performing Shania Twain’s hit song “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” He continued to have a fit of giggles as he and Grande sang “Happy Birthday” for the umpteenth time leading the latter also to break character. It only gets worse when the comedian dips the singer and attempts to sing “I Will Always Love You,” written by Dolly Parton...

Ariana Grande wasn’t just the musical guest during the March 9 episode of “Saturday Night Live.” While she took the stage to perform two songs from “Eternal Sunshine,” her just-released sixth album, “We Can’t Be Friends” and “Imperfect For You” — and was introduced by her mom, Joan Grande, for the second number — she also took on two different sketches.
After appearing as a patient in a group therapy session during the first half of the show, she was invited back to the stage later on in the night for a “Moulin Rouge” spoof, giving her the opportunity to sing covers of multiple hit songs.
The sketch created a PBS special, hosted by Mikey Day, taking a look at what the “Elephant Love Medley” would have looked like had director Baz Luhrmann known they’d be able to get the rights to other love songs; Bowen Yang and Grande played Christian and Satine,...

Robert Alvarez and Adrian Rivas both started playing their respective instruments — guitar and drums — at the age of 12. They shared a love of rock, especially the heavier kind, like grunge and metal. And, years later, each received the same devastating medical diagnosis: a brain tumor.
Rivas and Alvarez hadn’t met by the time they were individually considering treatment options. But their common experience would lead them to play music together under very special circumstances.
Alvarez was in high school when he began to suffer debilitating migraines, he tells Rolling Stone.

Melanie’s children — Leilah, Jeordie and Beau Jarred — announced the news on Wednesday with a post on her official Facebook page. The cause of death is currently unknown.
“Mom passed, peacefully, out of this world and into the next on January, 23rd, 2024,” reads the statement. “We are heartbroken, but want to thank each and every one of you for the affection you have for our Mother, and to tell you that she loved all of you so much! She was one of the most talented, strong and passionate women of the era and every word she wrote, every note she sang reflected that. The big surprise on the runway of Yohji Yamamoto’s Fall Winter 2024 men’s collection in Paris was the appearance of Wim Wenders. The 78-year-old German filmmaker, currently enjoying box office success in Europe with Perfect Days, walked the runway wearing classic pieces in the fashion house’s style of layering and varying lengths.
Yamamoto’s connection to Wenders dates back to 1989, when the director of Wings of Desire made a documentary about the founder of the Japanese brand called Notebook on Cities and Clothes.
“We became close like brothers a long time ago. We share the same memory from when we were very young — the Tokyo and Berlin bombings,” the fashion designer stressed backstage at the event inside Yamamoto’s European headquarters on Rue Saint-Martin, in the heart of Les Halles.
The soundtrack featured famous songs such as Radiohead’s “Creep,” Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” and Johnny Cash’s “The Little Drummer Boy,...

I adore found footage movies. From the claustrophobic visuals to filmmakers ingeniously extracting tension from miniscule budgets – nothing gets my blood pumping like some quality epistolary filmmaking. However, after seeing so many of these films, I have no problem admitting that the sub-genre as a whole has a huge characterization problem. After all, Pov storytelling and realistic dialogue make it extremely difficult to really get to know our main characters before shit hits the proverbial fan.
That’s why we’ve come to expect found footage flicks to focus more on plot than characters, as dramatic heart-to-heart conversations aren’t as common in “real” recordings as they are in the hyper-reality of narrative film. Fortunately, some of the more talented filmmakers out there have managed to work within these limitations and still come up with memorable character interactions, with the best example of this being Patrick Brice and Mark Duplass’ experimental classic,...

“You never know if they like you for who you are or what you are,” Anna Nicole Smith once said before she passed away from an accidental drug overdose in 2007. The endearing model, actress, and television personality often found herself a subject of misinterpretation and ridicule when she wanted to taste life, be loved, and make people smile.
