The Dodgers are the most well-represented team on the list with four players (Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman and Clayton Kershaw). The Phillies, Yankees, New York Mets and San Diego Padres have two players apiece.
Ohtani also had MLB's best-selling jersey 2023, when he won his second American League MVP in three seasons with the Los Angeles Angels.
Ohtani was already immensely popular when he left the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters of Japan's pro league (Nippon Professional Baseball) for the Los Angeles Angels in 2018. The hitting and pitching star has been sensational in MLB, capped by his 2024 performance.
Ohtani left the Halos for the Dodgers on a 10-year, $700 million contract last offseason and has met the hype and then some, pulling off the first 50-50 season in MLB history. Ohtani finished the year with National League highs in home runs (54), RBI (130) and OPS (1.036). He also stole 59 bases and led MLB with 134 runs.
As for the rest of the top three, Harper joined the bigs as one of the most hyped prospects in recent memory. The two-time National League MVP spent his first seven seasons with the Washington Nationals before joining the Phils. He's enjoyed another All-Star campaign for the NL East champions, hitting 30 home runs and knocking in 87 runners.
Judge has been the American League's best hitter, nearly taking home the Triple Crown award. He settled for 58 home runs and 144 RBI to pace the Yanks, who finished with the American League's best record. The six-time All-Star also led the majors in OBP, SLG and OPS.
