Swiggy is firefighting a story Rest of World had published, reporting how the food-delivery platform took away its delivery partners’ health insurance coverage if they failed to meet certain work quotas. Observe the tone in this statement: "The effectiveness of Swiggy’s insurance cover can be gauged from the fact that Swiggy has disbursed around INR 30 crores in insurance claims annually over the past few years. Over 15% of claims are related to family members of our delivery partners. In the past year alone, Swiggy has extended insurance coverage to 12 lakh unique delivery partners under our policy." And this is the story it is responding to: "Delivery worker Rakesh was dropping off food orders in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad in late January when he received a distressing call from his wife — she was in severe pain. Over the next three weeks, Rakesh had to drop everything to go to hospitals seeking a diagnosis for her. Until then, Rakesh had been a “gold” level gig worker for Swiggy, India’s second-largest food delivery app. He delivered at least 100 orders a week, over 14-hour shifts. The prestigious ranking made him and his family eligible for company-sponsored health insurance, among other benefits. But by the time a gynecologist recommended an urgent procedure — which cost 1,20,000 rupees ($1,440) — for Rakesh’s wife, she was no longer covered by Swiggy’s insurance. He had missed days of work while attending to her health, which caused his app ranking to drop to silver, making his family ineligible for company benefits. " Getting the mix right between data and emotion can be difficult, but let me ask you: would you trust either of these sides of the equation on their own? Despite a math background, he struggled initially. Learning the process skills taught in the course and focused practice on the cementing quizzes made all the difference. 3. 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐲: A section that initially seemed daunting turned into Kartik’s strength, taking him from the 56th to the 96th percentile in just 40 days. By learning the art of reading tables and interpreting data correctly, Kartik could efficiently break down complex information and draw accurate conclusions. “𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦’𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘹𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘮𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝘋𝘐 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘮𝘦,” he says. 4. 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Kartik’s success wasn’t just about learning concepts but also strategic preparation. What happens when the Posterboy of #EdTech goes bust? Are we seeing another Pets.com? EdTEch will survive with the right solutions but the valuation inflation did not help anyone, and the right clear offerings will still do well. #EdTech is still dealing with the Byju's fallout and a re-evaluation of the effectiveness and TAM of the model. Focusing back on the real product and growing steadily rather than buying market share will be the name of the game going forward.
