Abstract

[reactions: see text] A two-step aldol/Pd-catalyzed formate reduction sequence allows for convenient, stereoselective access to products of great potential in synthetic approaches to polyketides. A novel diastereoselective Pd-catalyzed formate reduction of allylic acetates is reported.
