A community with a chawl committee was chosen, and a description of the residents is provided, as well as descriptions of the sanitary conditions and public facilities in the area. Data was collected by survey, and it was decided to strengthen the knowledge of the leaders about family planning, and to orientate and give detailed information about family planning to the community. The process of forming a planning group is recorded, as are the methods of implementing the training and educational program chosen. An overall evaluation summarizes the experiences of the group and the community.
