Measles virus genome detected up to four months in a case of congenital measles

Acta Paediatr. 2002;91(11):1263-5. doi: 10.1080/080352502320777540.

Abstract

To determine how long the measles virus genome was detected in a patient with congenital measles, the peripheral blood mononuclear cells were tested for 203 d. The measles virus genome was detected up to 140 d.

Conclusion: The period for which the measles virus genome was detected in this patient with congenital measles was much longer than in normal children with measles.
