Abstract

After defining what cardiovascular disease is, the author describes the biological consequences of stress which are relevant to this kind of illness, the evidence for the relation between stress and cardiovascular disease, and predisposing factors (personality type, lifestyle, cardiac reactivity, working conditions, personal interaction and certain emotional states), and lastly provides a summary of explanatory mechanisms.
