Abstract

As a pre-intervention study to improve the safety of the practice of traditional birth attendants, all 29 attendants in one rural area in Tanzania were interviewed, using a pre-tested questionnaire seeking information on the instruments used, care of the umbilical cord, and how they dealt with problem cases. The results are presented and discussed in this paper.
