Abstract

Severe electrolyte imbalance is rarely the cause of cardiac decompensation. We report the case of a young patient with acute left ventricular failure due to severe hypocalcaemia secondary to the intestinal malabsorption of calcium with inflammatory bowel disease. The interesting feature of this case was the rapid haemodynamic deterioration and the total reversal within one week following correction of the hypocalcaemia.
