Abstract

The Jena ophthalmospectrometer was used to investigate type I and II diabetics with and without retinopathy and normal persons. Discriminant analysis allows separation of normals and diabetics with a high degree of sensitivity and specificity. In diabetics, spectrometric changes precede ophthalmoscopically visible changes.
