Abstract

This article focuses on how to undertake peripheral cannulation by providing the theoretical basis for understanding the anatomy of veins, how to improve venous access and choosing a suitable vein and device. It also provides a practical guide of how to insert a cannula safely as well as prevention and management of complications during and following insertion.
