Magnetic resonance imaging of massive ovarian edema in pregnancy

Abstract

Objective: To investigate the MRI findings of massive ovarian edema in pregnancy.

Conclusions: Asymmetric ovarian enlargement with a teardrop configuration and T2 hyperintensity with or without T1 hyperintensity appear characteristic of massive ovarian edema in pregnancy, potentially facilitating nonoperative diagnosis and expectant management. These findings support the concept that massive ovarian edema in pregnancy reflects chronic partial ovarian torsion.
