Abstract

Esophagogastrostomy covered by tongue-like sero-muscular flap of gastric wall was designed by the authors in order to prevent anastomotic leak, anastomotic stricture and reflux esophagitis after resection of esophageal cancer. One hundred patients with esophageal cancer were operated with the new anastomotic method. Among them, there were 73 patients with middle and 27 with lower third esophageal cancer. In this series, no operative mortality and no anastomotic complications happened within 6 months after surgery. The operative procedure is described in detail. The authors believe that this new anastomotic procedure is reliable and prospective.
