Abstract

The authors have reviewed the role of platelets in thromboembolic strokes, the effects of usual antiplatelet drugs on haemostasis and the new approaches to the prevention of thrombosis. Critical analysis of controlled clinical trials indicates only aspirin use showed evidence of effectiveness in prevention of transient ischemic attacks or minor strokes related to atherosclerosis.
