Abstract

Introduction: This study intends to describe a HIV intake screening strategy in recently incarcerated adults in Distrito Federal, Brasilia, Brazil.

Methods: We tested 455 recently incarcerated adults in Distrito Federal in 2016 using rapid tests (RT) applied to oral samples (OS).

Results: The estimated frequency of positive tests was 0.88% (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.34% to 2.24%).

Conclusions: The present findings reveal the potential significance of detecting new HIV infection cases in a vulnerable population using point-of-care rapid diagnostic tests.
