Thermal protection of urethra during cryosurgery of prostate

Cryobiology. 1994 Jun;31(3):313-6. doi: 10.1006/cryo.1994.1037.

Abstract

Cryoablation of the prostate requires adequate thermal protection of the urethra. This study describes a simple urethral warming device as well as a method of use with components readily available in hospital operating facilities. An initial clinical study as well as tests in an animal model both indicate that the use of this thermal protection device can effectively protect the urethra during the cryosurgical process.
