Br J Nurs. 1996 Jan;5(1):8-15. doi: 10.12968/bjon.1996.5.1.8.

Abstract

This article addresses a learning experience involving the insertion of central venous cannulae, for both the assessment of a patient's internal environment in relation to the need for medical intervention and the administration of medical treatment. The issues explored highlight the important uses of such cannulae and stress the potential problems which may be encountered during insertion of the cannulae or when they are used for the administration of drug therapy.
