A brute force dichotomization approach to quantitative trait linkage analysis

Genet Epidemiol. 1995;12(6):719-22. doi: 10.1002/gepi.1370120631.

Abstract

The effect of dichotomizing a continuous phenotype in linkage analysis of a simulated oligogenic trait is explored. We conclude that dichotomization does not in itself preclude the detection of loci which account for as little as 16% of the genetic variance of the disease. The effects of inclusion of known covariates and quantitative trait linkage analysis are also discussed.
