False positive MIBG scan

Med Pediatr Oncol. 1997 Dec;29(6):589-92. doi: 10.1002/(sici)1096-911x(199712)29:6<589::aid-mpo14>3.0.co;2-1.

Abstract

The fortuitous discovery of a left posterior cervico-mediastinal mass during hospitalization for hemolytic anemia in an 18 month old baby is reported. Metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) uptake suggested a sympathetic tissue origin of the mass despite negative catecholamines excretion, but histopathologic examination revealed a juvenile capillary angioma within a normal sympathic ganglion.
