At the Donetsk Regional Antitumour Centre different techniques have been developed for formation of artificial urinary bladder from rectum. A particular feature of the techniques employed as compared to the generally known ones is a mode of mobilization of sigmoid colon as well as procedures for grafting ureters concomitantly with suturing of rectal stump, with those ureters being placed in the retroperitoneal space. Of the 96 operated patients, 41 underwent morphologic examination of the artificial urinary bladder wall and mucosa one day to 30 years after surgery. The studies made showed that rectal mucosa underwent marked atrophic changes because of a new resection performed. But even 30 years after the operation the atrophic mucosa still has its morphologic signs.
