almodovar’s 12th best reviewed movie isn’t coming anywhere close to any Oscar wins

it doesn’t matter. It’s an accumulative effect.

Is “The Departed” one of Marty’s best? NOPE.

Is “A Beautiful Mind” one of Howard’s best? No chance.

Is “The Shape of Water” the best Guillermo del Toro film? Maybe 5th or 6th.

Fact is, it’s so good that won Golden Lion over way more “predicted” competition, and as of late, winning that warrants strong showing at the Oscars, if your film is English-spoken or heavily buzzed for Oscar race. I’d say Swinton is the likeliest win, if it follows the streak and wins at least one of the big 8, then Pedro as writer winning a 2nd. Will be watching this one on October 18th, the release in Spain, and expect something slow and reflecting on life and death. Fact is, again, that Almodovar is considered one of the greatest, not only working today, but also of all time. And AMPAS is already embarrassed enough with the likes of Buñuel (only 2 nominations), Fellini (12) or Bergman (9), Kurosawa (only 1 nomination) dying Oscarless… so this golden chance, I don’t know if they’re willing to waste it. (Note: Almodóvar has one Oscar, but for Original Screenplay, not for Directing and none of his films was even nominated for Best Picture).

The Room Next Door is not a strong contender at all regardless of the Golden Lion. It winning the Golden Lion does not immediately warrant it as ‘So Good’ since it came from a small jury that likely had its bias anyway as other winners such as Vincent for actors were previous costar of the president Huppert. You seem very passionate about this film being a massive contender but you have to look at other factors and the truth is this movie has almost no passion at all. Yes Pedro, Julliane and Tilda are all very respected names in Hollywood but this movie itself has received middling reviews with no sustained buzz at all after it won the Golden Lion anyway. Everyone is entitled to their predictions but don’t be surprised when this film gets progressively weaker throughout the season and potentially doesn’t even make it into actress or screenplay

This is such nonsense. He is so incredibly overrated. It’s great that he tells women’s stories, but they are so melodramatic while also looking flat.

I cant believe I just read this nonsense let alone comes across such stupidity.Pedro Almodovar has a unique sense of style, storytelling and vision for his films. His films do not look, sound or feel the same way as any other director. Pedro is unique and masterful, one of the all time greats. My favorite director of all time screw formulaic spielberg, same old scorcesse in everything, spotty fincher or overated Inarritu. Him and del toro have a uniqueness to them. Pedro Almodovar has great thrillers and plot twists. C’mon now to piss on his craft like that shame on you.Get some taste.

Demi Moore has put in the work – Few Good Men, Ghost, Bobby, Margin Call. Films that either scored Oscar nods or campaigned heavily for them. She was a go-to headliner for films at one point in her career. And even now she gets primo roles in event television. You may dismiss the genre of the film. But dismiss Moore’s credentials at your own peril.

I feel the need to add that she’s got a very positive reputation in Hollywood. Nearly everybody she has ever worked with adores her. So not only does she have that A-list benefit behind her, if you really go through her past films (no matter how well received some of them are), she has worked with a ton of people who vote for the Oscars.

Not to mention, her campaign is already defying what people expected of it so far, and we haven’t even gotten into actual voting season.

I know some people want to compare her chances in this to Jlo getting buzz for Hustlers back in 2019, but if there’s one thing Moore has in her favor, it’s a very positive reputation amongst her industry.

His movies are absolute chores to get through. The trailer was one giant sleeping pill. Not buying this one at all as a BP contender. It’s just a matter of who is SPC going to put more weight behind: Ronan or Swinton. My money says Ronan.

So flat that Tarantino and Bong Joon Ho are huge fans of him and his work.

I agree that Almodovar is one of the most unique and exquisite directors today, but the academy is not that keen to reward foreign talents; they just don’t care. When Isabelle Huppert’s time arrived, and it was a great opportunity to reward one of the best living actresses, they just snubbed her, and the Oscar went to a young, less calibre actress who was even overshadowed by her co-star (Gosling) in the movie.

As the legend is back, the best actress category will be extremely exciting!

Elle was not a great film and certainly not oscar worthy. Just shock porn. She was better in the piano teacher, now that was a hell of a performance. One of her greatest ones.Emma stone was the heart and soul of LA LA LAND. I loved the movie because of her and she was just marvelous in that movie. A star making performace.

She has been in some really good films more so than Jlo that will be to her advantage and she is a familiar face with older voters. At 61 I think she deserves this over Mikey Madison.
