- Ernst Toch was born on December 7, 1887 in Vienna, Austria-Hungary [now Austria]. He was a composer, known for Address Unknown (1944), Ladies in Retirement (1941) and The Cat and the Canary (1939). He was married to Lilly Zwack and Alice Zwack. He died on October 1, 1964 in Los Angeles, California, USA.

- Viennese composer of classical music. A self-taught pianist, he learned musical notation from a local violinist. Won the Mozart Prize in 1909, the Mendelssohn Prize the following year. Studied at Frankfurt Conservatory. Awarded PhD in 1921. Taught piano in Berlin, 1929-33. Went into exile after the Nazi takeover, first to Paris and London, eventually settling in the U.S.. Composed seven symphonies, 13 string quartets and film music in Hollywood, 1934-55.
