During the mid-1970s, television producer Aaron Spelling and the writing duo of Ivan Goff and Ben Roberts hit upon the most spectacularly novel idea: Viewers loved watching women solve crimes. The eureka moment occurred in 1974 when the great and ludicrously beautiful Angie Dickinson scored a primetime hit with "Police Woman." While I'd argue Dickinson could've burned up the Nielsen ratings via weekly readings of Russian literature shot at the Bob's Big Boy in Burbank, she was a must-watch sensation as a glamorously attired detective. Though the scripts were rigorously formulaic for a '70s hour-long cop show, Dickinson's showbiz rep attracted a host of top tier guest stars; "Police Woman" didn't have much of a hook, but thanks to its star, it had plenty of sizzle.
It took some prodding (ABC execs Barry Diller and Michael Eisner abhorred Spelling's pitch), but "Charlie's Angels" became the breakout hit of the 1976 season.

The show was immensely popular with viewers but got mixed reviews from critics. Some called it “Jiggle TV” because it emphasized the sex appeal of its female cast.

Sony Pictures has debuted the first trailer for its upcoming fall tentpole “Charlie’s Angels,” and it surely doesn’t disappoint on delivering super-spy action and the franchise’s trademark quips. The action-comedy is the latest directorial effort from Elizabeth Banks, who made her debut behind the camera with “Pitch Perfect 2.” The last time “Charlie’s Angels” graced the big screen was in 2003’s “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle,” starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu. Banks’ new film casts Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska in the title roles.
The official synopsis from Sony Pictures reads: “Charlie’s Angels have always provided security and investigative skills to private clients, and now the Townsend Agency has expanded internationally with multiple teams of Angels guided by multiple Bosleys [David Doyle’s John Bosley was the handler for the Angels on the original series that ran from 1976 to 1981] taking...

Patrick Stewart is currently in final talks to Sony Pictures’ rebooted “woke” Charlies Angels.
The X-Men actor is said to be up for one of the many positions of Bosley in the new reiteration. In the film, Charlie Townsend’s detective agency has now become a security and intelligence firm. The name Bosley is to be used as a codeword for the agents set up at the firm within individual branches who deal with the Angels.
Elizabeth Banks will be at the helm of the film in which she also co-wrote. She will also be playing one of the many Bosleys. Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska will be playing the roles of the Angels.

Sony announced Thursday that Elizabeth Banks will now star in her upcoming remake of “Charlie’s Angels” as Bosley, with Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska joining Kristen Stewart as the titular spy trio.
Banks is directing, producing and writing the film, which has had its release date moved out of its summer slot to Sept. 27, 2019.
In the new film, Charlie’s Townsend Agency has dramatically expanded since the events of the franchise’s previous installments, with the Angels in Banks’ film being one of many teams working for the agency around the world. Bosley, originally a male role played by David Doyle in the 1970s TV series and by Bill Murray in the 2000 film adaptation, serves as the technical adviser and comic relief, relaying mission information to the Angels from the mysterious Charlie.

Filtered through her experience as an unequalled comic performer, writer-director Elaine May scores a bulls-eye with this grossly underappreciated gem, fashioned in a style that could be called ‘black comedy lite.’ And that’s the release version mangled by the producer. What might it have been if May had been allowed to finish her director’s cut?

Glenda Jackson: Actress and former Labour MP. Four years ago, Jackson, who represented the Greater London constituency of Hampstead and Highgate, announced that she would stand down the 2015 general election – which, somewhat controversially, was won by right-wing prime minister David Cameron's Conservative party.[1] The silver lining: following a two-decade-plus break, Glenda Jackson is returning to acting. Now, Jackson isn't – for the time being – returning to acting in front of the camera. The title suggests another reference to angels, since they are only angels and not saints, who serve a higher purpose. The angels are out jet skiing and Eve (Minka Kelly) is hailed to save a man who was washed up on the beach. She manages to revive him but he has no recollection of anything. Bosley (Ramon Rodriguez) thinks the man likes Eve, whom they've taken to calling Hugo since he was dressed in a Hugo Boss suit, as they tell Charlie (Victor Garber). Abby (Rachael Taylor) adds she did go mouth to mouth with him, i.e giving him the kiss of life. Funny Abby should get this line seeing as this episode was hyped to contain a kissing scene between Abby and Eve. However, Rachael and Minka did kiss during filming of this episode, most likely as a publicity stunt. There was however, no such scene actually in the episode,...

The scene opens with Bosley (Ramon Rodriguez) being chased by police officers. As an appropriate soundtrack plays over the chase scene, he is arrested and proclaims his innocence. 24 hours ago Eve (Minka Kelly) finds a postcard for Bosley from Paris but it doesn't have a message. She comments no one's taken her there. She also adds, "Maybe it's your lost love trying to heat things up again." That could have been true, see my comment later. If nothing else Eve knows Bosley's middle name is Eduardo. Bosley: "I like to keep my private life, private." That's not what he would have said in the previous episode and if that's the case it must be difficult if he talks in his sleep. A lost love doesn't seem possible. He also tells Eve. Abby (Rachael Taylor) and Kate (Annie Ilonzeh) bring caffeine and carbs. Charlie (Victor Garber) hands them a missing person's case.

4 years ago: a policeman tells crooked cops how not to spend their ill-gotten gains. Kate's (Annie Ilonzeh) fiancee still doesn't know about her . They're family he says. Kate hears a noise and chases after the reporter, Amanda (Tahyna Tozzi). She's working to expose them all and Kate takes her photos, like that will prevent her from writing the story. Amanda asks why Kate is doing this as she's not like the others. Kate lets her go. Today: Abby (Rachael Taylor) comments that when they run after the bad guy, Eve (Minka Kelly) always takes the car. Their client, Scott (Eric Aragon)is engaged and has hired the angels to find his missing fiance who disappeared on a cruise ship. The case isn't in their jurisdiction. Charlie (Victor Garber) also says there's no evidence of foul play. Charlie names the reporter as Amanda. Eve: "a blast from your past." Kate says she destroyed her career.

Now it's more of a case of fallen Angels.
The ABC network tonight confirmed that its relaunched Charlie's Angels series has been given the chop after just four episodes.
Rachael Taylor, Minka Kelly and Annie Ilonzeh starred as Miami-based detectives, with Ramon Rodriguez as Bosley, Victor Garber as Charlie, and Drew Barrymore among the executive producers. Barrymore starred in both big-screen versions of Charlie's Angels directed by McG.
Production has been shut down on the show though the four remaining completed episodes will continue to air. ABC had originally commissioned 13 episodes.
Charlie's Angels premiered to 8.76million viewers. But it had dropped by almost three million to 5.96million viewers by the fourth week.
Last week, Minka Kelly and Rachael Taylor were filmed kissing while shooting on Miami Beach in what has been seen as a ploy to boost interest in the show. The passionate kiss didn't prove to be enough.

My prediction for the fall 2011 season: record-breaking heat, with a 100% chance of sexy. Well, on TV anyway. See, even as the weather begins to cool down, the small screen will be heating up as a mixture of hotties both established and up-and-coming will grace our TV sets in the quickly-approaching crop of fall shows.
From fairytale princes and teenage witches to supernatural hunters and ‘60s playboys, this fall season offers up a titillating assortment of hunky new characters – all of them brought to life by a group of fetching performers who will no doubt have us drooling at our TV screens come September. Below I’ve compiled a list of 12 to get your tongues wagging.
Note: The 2011 fall season is also lamentably short on performers of color, which is sadly reflected in the following list. Nevertheless, while only three of the twelve actors I highlight below belong to a racial minority,...

One major reason to tune in to the Charlie's Angels remake this fall on ABC: Puerto Rican dreamboat Ramon Rodriguez as the new Bosley. You may not know him yet, but once you get a load of him stepping out of a spa in the pilot that’s probably gonna change.
Of course, the Angels franchise has always had much to offer gay audiences. The original series' appeal lay in its undeniable "camp" value – the flashy outfits, the feathered hair, the silly '70s soundtrack. And while the creators of this reboot are clearly attempting to de-emphasize that aspect in updating the series, new Angel Rachael Taylor (character name: Abigail Sampson, master thief) stands by it anyway.
"Well, I've been…chastised for using the word 'camp', but I'm still gonna use it," said the Aussie actress when I approached her following the show's TCA panel in Los Angeles.

The cast of Charlie's Angels (2011)
We'd posted some of these earlier today on our Facebook page, but in case you missed them, meet actor Ramon Rodriguez:
He's the new Bosley in ABC's Charlie's Angels reboot. The character was played in the original series by doughy but affable David Doyle. But clearly ABC wants to cover all the eye candy bases this time out, because Rodriguez is an altogether sleeker, hotter version.

Here is the first official image of the 21st century Charlie's Angels, and it could be worse. At least our first glimpse of these beach-loving ladies involves trendy matching white dresses, rather than the matching white bikinis in which they will likely solve most of their crimes.
The new Angels differ somewhat from their 1970s counterparts. Back then, when Women's Lib was all the rage, the ladies were sexy police cadets whose talents were not appreciated by the Lapd. Luckily, a mysterious millionaire named Charlie happened along to give them a chance to shine as private detectives. But our new Angels don't start out so angelic.
Times have changed, friends. Apparently women are now liberated enough to be as bad as any man, because the current Angels are sexy criminals brought together in Miami by a mysterious millionaire named Charlie who is providing them a chance to make up for their wicked ways.

Movie star Ramon Rodriguez has confirmed he'll be portraying Bosley in the upcoming Charlie's Angels TV revamp.
The Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen star will take over the role played by Bernie Mac, Bill Murray and David Doyle in the new TV series.
He joins Angels Minka Kelly, Rachael Taylor and Annie Ilonzeh for the remake, and tells MovieHole.net he's getting into shape to play a more physical Bosley.
He explains, "I'm doing martial arts right now and he's (Bosley) also a techie, and I'm a bit of a techie, so that's cool, but it's mostly martial arts."
Rodriguez insists he has been preparing to play Bosley his whole life - because he grew up with three sisters.
He adds, "They watched the show, so they got more excited than I did when I found out I was playing Bosley. They were freaking out."...

It looks like the team is now complete for the proposed ABC reboot of Charlie's Angels. Actor Ramon Rodriguez has been cast as Bosley, the liason between Charlie and the female detectives. On the original Charlie's Angels series, Bosley was played by the late David Doyle.

The role once originated by tubby character actor David Doyle on classic TV series Charlie’s Angels and then succeeded by Bill Murray and the late Bernie Mac in the movies, the character of Bosley was better known for his wit than his physique, but ABC is planning a sexy Bosley for their upcoming remake of the series. ABC’s new Charlie’s Angels pilot has redesigned the character as a hunk and a half. John Bosley, in his late-20s to mid-30s, is described as having “GQ looks” and a “Peter Pan” smile. While the detective is known for his savvy hacking skills, a killer six-pack hides under his designer suits.
The network is getting into the mix of classic series remakes like CBS with Hawaii Five-o, NBC with their eventual remake of Rockford Files, TNT with their Dallas sequel series and many others.

Though many recent primetime schedules are littered with unsuccessful revivals of old TV shows, ABC thinks the time is right for a new version of Charlie's Angels. It's actually the third time that this has been attempted. Will this one actually make it?
Created by Ivan Goff and Ben Roberts, the original Charlie's Angels debuted on ABC on September 22, 1976. The story revolves around three picture-perfect young ladies who work for a private investigation agency and use their beauty and skills to solve cases.
The show's original trio of women was played by Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson, and Jaclyn Smith. David Doyle played helper John Bosley and John Forsythe voiced the unseen owner of the agency, Charlie Townsend. Fawcett left after one season was replaced by Cheryl Ladd. Jackson left after three seasons and was replaced by Shelley Hack. The producers...

Chuck Woolery is set to host "The Meow Mix Game Show," a cat-centered competition that will air on GSN on Nov. 15.
The half-hour program, in which cats and humans compete for the chance to win $1 million and earn $100,000 for their local feline-related charity, will put a twist on classic game shows like "The Newlywed Game" and "Jeopardy!"
Owners will be quizzed on general feline knowledge, covering such categories as nutrition, behavior, anatomy and the role of cats in pop culture, as well as interactive challenges where cats and humans must work together to be successful.
Woolery said this represents a first for him.
"In my game show career, I've worked with TV stars, film stars, sports figures, legendary musicians and many other contestants," he said. "Now I'm thrilled to be working with my furry friends -- cats. It's a first for me, and I'm delighted to be partnering with Meow Mix and GSN."
The show was created by Grand Central Marketing and is exec produced by David Doyle.

The Fonz Woos Angels for Reunion Special
Happy Days star Henry Winkler is hoping to convince the stars of hit 1970s TV show Charlie's Angels to reunite for a 30th anniversary special later this year. Winkler and his production partner Michael Levitt have already gathered the casts of Happy Days, Dallas, Knots Landing and Dynasty for recent reunion specials. The pair hope to convince original Angels Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson to sign on for the show. Producers have been in touch with all three actresses, but their appearances have not been officially confirmed. John Forsythe has agreed to voice never-before-seen detective agency owner Charlie Townsend, as he did through the series' 1976-1981 run. Cheryl Ladd, who joined the show as Jill Munroe's kid sister Kris, has already agreed to appear on the show. Her publicist Jay D. Schwartz says, "Cheryl is looking forward to having a blast." David Doyle, who played Bosley on the show, died in 1997.
