You might as well call the 2000s the decade of the parodies. You had hilariously funny parodies such as the Scary movie series, Date Movie, Epic Movie, Meet the Spartans, Superhero Movie and Tropic Thunder all come out during this time period. And we can't forget about one of the most memorable parodies of them all, Not Another Teen Movie. This film is currently streaming on Netflix, and we can't wait to rewatch it!
Not Another Teen Movie is a teen parody movie that was directed by Joel Gallen from a screenplay co-written by Michael G. Bender, Adam Jay Epstein, Andrew Jacobson, Phil Beauman, and Buddy Johnson. It was released in theaters by Sony Pictures Releasing in December 2001, ultimately grossing a worldwide total of $66.5 million against a $15 million budget.

Image Source: Universal Picture Home Entertainment For a certain generation, The Breakfast Club remains the ultimate high school movie. Taking place on a single Saturday during five students’ detention session, there are only two adult roles of any significance in the film – The late Paul Gleason as the school’s vice principal and John Kapelos as the school’s janitor. But here’s a bit of trivia for you: Kapelos wasn’t the one originally hired for the part. In fact, he wasn’t even the first janitor filmed for the movie. Speaking at a Breakfast Club reunion panel at Steel City Con, Molly Ringwald revealed the big name who originally filmed the part … and why his scenes were relegated to the cutting room floor. With a new month comes many new choices for Netflix viewers, and three of the choices stand out. June looks excellent on Netflix.
There is something for everyone and every situation, including Detective Pikachu and The Lego Movie for kids, The Divergent Movie for sci-fi fans, and the Conjuring trilogy for horror fans.
Another good option is the Godzilla Minus One movie, which, as Monsters and Critics reported, just dropped on Netflix.
All those are good options, but three top picks should not be missed: one for drama fans, a throwback for sci-fi fans, and one of the best coming-of-age films ever made.
The first is a Spanish offering named Raising Voices. It is an all-too-familiar tale of sexual assault that immediately grips viewers. Raising Voices, Episode 1, is streaming on Netflix today and should not be missed.
The caption on the trailer reads, “When a 17-year-old reports a sexual assault at her high school,...

In John Hughes' 1985 teen dramedy "The Breakfast Club," five teenagers are locked in their school library on a Saturday as punishment for a variety of on-campus transgressions. The teens are lucky that their cruel headmaster, Mr. Vernon (Paul Gleason), isn't entirely attentive, as his periodic absences allow them to talk, bond, and come to understand their prejudices about each other. By the end of the day, the five teens -- Andrew, Claire, Brian, Allison, and John -- may have become friends. More than anything, they understand a lot more about who they are.
John Bender (Judd Nelson) is the troublemaker of the group, and he will reveal his uncaring attitude comes quite directly from having an abusive father. He also deflects a lot of negativity through humor, and it will be he who suggests the other four learn how liberating it is to deliberately break rules. Naturally, he also comes to detention with some weed,...

Molly Ringwald, star of 1980s hit The Breakfast Club, has revealed she only rewatched the movie recently, and was jarred by some of the themes that were glossed over at the time.
Ringwald played Claire Standish, nicknamed “Princess,” one of five disparate school students grouped together during a weekend detention period, in the movie, written and directed by John Hughes, which debuted in 1985. Her co-stars included Judd Nelson, Emilio Estevez, Ally Sheedy and Anthony Michael Hall, with Paul Gleason as the school’s authoritarian vice-principal.
Ringwald told The Times of London she sat down to watch the movie with her 21-year-old daughter, actress Mathilda Gianopoulos:
“I only rewatched The Breakfast Club, which came out in 1985, because Mathilda wanted to see it with me. There is a lot that I really love about the movie but there are elements that haven’t aged well — like Judd Nelson’s character, John Bender,...

Nothing gold can stay, and to make room for everything new at Hulu in November, we have to say goodbye to dozens of the series and movies on the platform. The streamer will make room for its upcoming Christmas library by losing some of its horror-themed titles throughout the month, including “Stephen King's It,” most of its “Saw” franchise, and “Shaun Of The Dead.” Other major titles leaving the platform include Emma Stone’s breakthrough comedy “Easy A,” the Nora Ephron classic “Sleeping in Seattle,” and more.

The Pitch: "The Breakfast Club" is a problematic film viewed through a modern lens. I'm going to get that out of the way at the top. Star Molly Ringwald wrote a beautiful piece for The New Yorker about revisiting the film in the wake of the #MeToo movement. It gives a new context to some of the things those of us who have loved the movie for years may not have thought of. Watching it nowadays for the first time is bound to make viewers question things. On November 24, 1971, a man calling himself Dan Cooper hijacked Northwest Orient Airlines flight 305 from Portland to Seattle (a trip known as a “milk run” due to the short distance involved). A few minutes into the voyage, he got the attention of a flight attendant and made it known that he had a bomb that he intended to use unless his demands were met. What did he want? $200,000 in unmarked bills and four parachutes.
After the plane was on the ground in Seattle, the passengers were let go, the plane was refueled, and Cooper was granted his money and chutes. He instructed the pilot to head towards Mexico City, making it clear that the wing flaps were to remain at 15 degrees and landing gear to stay deployed, the cabin remain depressurized, and that the craft was not to exceed an altitude of 10,000 feet.

Chris Evans might be seen as a great dramatic actor these days, after a decade of playing Captain America in the McU, but before he landed the part of the Sentinel of Liberty, his most notable roles tended to be in comedies. Even his turn as the Human Torch in the Fantastic Four films is pretty light-hearted. If you’re a fan looking to familiarize yourself with Evans’ earlier work though, then Netflix is on hand to help you out, as a forgotten pic from his past has just been dropped onto the site.
This Tuesday, September 1st, the streaming service added 2001’s Not Another Teen Movie. Released when he was just 20 years old, the comedy flick featured Evans’ first leading role. Funnily enough, his co-star and love interest in the film, Chyler Leigh, would also go on to achieve fame in the superhero world as Alex Danvers in TV’s Supergirl.

My review of tonight's penultimate "Fargo" of season 2 coming up just as soon as I show you what a South Dakota necktie looks like... "It's just a flying saucer, Ed!" -Peggy There's a Roger Ebert review that's always nagged at me, not because it should be impossible for me to disagree with my favorite critic growing up, but because the reason for the disagreement has always seemed so small to me. Back in the summer of 1988, Ebert gave the original "Die Hard" only 2 stars, complaining that the movie's abundant technical merits, not to mention Alan Rickman's performance as the heavy, weren't enough to get him past the introduction of Paul Gleason as the Lapd deputy chief who refuses to believe that John McClane is a cop, or has anything useful to offer him and his men. "As nearly as I can tell," Ebert wrote, "the deputy chief is in...

When cinema of the 1980s is the topic of conversation, undoubtedly, “The Breakfast Club” is part, if not the centerpiece, of the discussion. Even 30 years later, John Hughes’ terrific coming-of-age dramedy is relevant, perhaps not in fashion (though I’ve seen my fair share of Judd Nelson and Ally Sheedy lookalikes lately), but certainly in the analysis of displaced adolescent identities and generational gaps. Read More: 15 Classic Teen Rebellion Movies This brief but informative video from Nick Olshansky at The Thought Lab explores the identity crises of characters in “The Breakfast Club” (the brain, the athlete, the criminal, the princess, and the omnipresent nerd), and how, despite their phony behavior and ambiguous carriages, the pentad have a lot more in common than they would’ve believed. Olshansky discusses the importance of the principal (an unforgettably authoritative Paul Gleason), and how he is “the driving force” behind pushing these misfits towards.

You guys, can you believe that it has been 30 years since The Breakfast Club hit theaters? Nope, neither can we. The cult classic's star Molly Ringwald took to the stage at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards tonight to honor the film's anniversary along with a very, very special performance. That's right, Simple Minds performed the massive hit "Don't You (Forget About Me)" and the entire star-studded audience rose to their feet at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The Scottish band's hit single was made famous by the 1985 John Hughes-directed movie which starred Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Ally Sheedy, Judd Nelson, and Paul Gleason—just to name a...

Last week the Internet had a collective heart attack as it became apparent that the anniversary of the day that "The Breakfast Club" is supposed to take place happened 31 years earlier. Of course, "The Breakfast Club" is a movie and not a historical document (one that came out 30 years ago), but that doesn't matter. Because talking about John Hughes's immortal classic is fun and people will do it at every conceivable juncture.
"The Breakfast Club," of course, starred Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald, and Ally Sheedy, as a group of disparate teens united for a Saturday's worth of detention (Paul Gleason very memorably essayed the role of the meddling principle -- "I make over $30,000 a year!"). Recently, to celebrate the movie's anniversary and commemorate the newly released (and truly incredible deluxe edition Blu-ray package), the film held a pair of screenings in Austin, Texas, as...

You know what the best Die Hard is. You know what the worst is. But where do the others sit in the Die Hard league table?
A quick preamble. Over the course of the coming weeks and months, we're going to be exploring many of our favourite movie franchises, and ranking the films in order. Mainly because it gives us a further chance to talk about many of our favourite films.
Inevitably, the ordering in these cases isn't always going to come as a surprise - we go into this with the first and last place in most of these lists immediately obvious - but it's interesting to see how the movies stand in the context of each other. Police Academy week in particular should be a hoot.
When it comes to ranking the Die Hard films then, the battle is really between Die Hards 2 and 3 for second place. But...

As I announced last week, instead of picking one classic drama season to revisit over the summer, I'm trying an experiment, highlighting different classic sitcom episodes from the past. First up for this summer sitcom rewind: "The Public Domain" and "Super Karate Monkey Death Car," a pair of "NewsRadio" episodes from early in the show's fourth season, coming up just as soon as I have fancy plans, and pants to match... In terms of their status at the time they aired, "NewsRadio" is among the more obscure shows I expect I'll be dealing with this summer. The mid-'90s was a pretty great period for TV comedy: "Seinfeld" at its peak, "The Simpsons" at its peak or close to it, "Frasier" presenting classical excellence each week and each season, "Friends" being a phenomenon, etc., plus other series like "3rd Rock from the Sun" and "The Drew Carey Show" that had...

The movies are filled with familiar faces with seemingly forgettable names. They’ll never see themselves on a marquee or win an Oscar, but people like Bob Gunton, Paul Gleason, and Brion James always make their brief moments onscreen count. Their presence often raises the level of a film, if even for a few minutes, but while most viewers would agree with the sentiment the actors go unsung in the general consciousness. Dick Miller is another one of those guys. He’s been in over 200 films, and while a couple of them saw him in a major or even leading role the vast majority found him simply as the clerk, the man behind the counter, the cop, the [insert generic occupation here] guy. If you’ve seen a Joe Dante movie then you’ve seen Miller in action, and the odds are almost as good if you’ve ever seen a Roger Corman film. Miller...

It's been 25 years since we were first held hostage with an ass-kicking Bruce Willis on Christmas Eve in "Die Hard," a film that's as fresh and awesome as it was when it first hit theaters (in limited release on July 15, 1988, and nationwide on July 22). Five films and 71 kills later, John McClane is still one of our favorite cop heros.

You know how it is – you're watching a film, when suddenly, out of nowhere, the characters burst into song. Fine when it's a musical – much more surprising when it's not. Here's some of the best of these moments – but can you think of any others? Share them in the comment thread below..
500 Days of Summer
Joseph Gordon Levitt's adorable Tom finally spends the night with the beautiful and quirky Summer and launches into a cheery, dance-filled rendition of You Make My Dreams Come True by Hall and Oates. Almost as elating as losing your virginity, this happy, colourful scene is easily one of the highlights of the film. Sadly the next scene is not nearly so cheerful…

Hotel Transylvania
Starring: Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Selena Gomez, Steve Buscemi, David Spade, and Andy Samberg.

Happy New Year! We survived the Mayan apocalypse and the gods have granted us news of a baby from Kim Kardashian and Kanye West to celebrate. Will it be named Khrist? Konstantinople? Kompassion? Maybe Bluer Ivy? One can only speculate, and the same goes for what wonders 2013 will behold. Considering this is a movie website I figured there would be no better way to ring in the new year with a selection of ten screen captures from movies you're sure to recognize along with the famous lines that accompany them. Many I'm sure you expect, but hopefully a couple are a surprise and perhaps will even provoke you to give one of them a watch. Either way, Happy New Year! Serious car chase in the works as international production continues.
Okay, so I suppose there might be a way to get my curiousity going about a fifth installment to the Die Hard series, after all. I was beginning to have my doubts. I’ve already bemoaned the lack of supporting cornerstones from any of the early films. Hell, I was reaching a point where a return visit from Samuel L. Jackson’s character from With A Vengeance would’ve been a step in the right direction in comparison to the detached, PG-13 puddle of warm milk that was Live Free Or Die Hard.
So when I hear via Empire that John Moore is backing off most of the tedious McClane-isms that were such a touchstone for those earlier films, I become a little bit more intrigued. Or at least curious. The first thought is, “Okay, no Bonnie Bedelia, no Paul Gleason,...

In 1988, there was a terrible movie released called 'Johnny Be Good,' starring Anthony Michael Hall as a star high school quarterback. If there were any lingering doubt as to how bad 'Johnny Be Good' really is, you should just re-read the last ten words of the previous sentence. One of the cultural oddities of 'Johnny Be Good' is that future Academy Award nominee John Hawkes appears as a pizza delivery boy who winds up on the receiving end of a pie-to-the-face delivered by Paul Gleason ('The Breakfast Club,' 'Trading Places'). For reasons I don't understand, I decided to bring up 'Johnny Be Good' while speaking with Hawkes about his quite fantastic performance in 'Martha Marcy May Marlene' (the full interview will publish next week). A beautiful and telling portrait of teenage rebellion that announced the rejection of yuppy culture in favour of one of spirited malcontent or a puff-ball fantasy of idealised youth? The Breakfast Club inspires myriad “readings”- it’s also an allegory for the diverse sub-cultures of the school environment- and yet also remains a pop culture mainstay cited and treasured as a coming of age film for all ages.
But, fuck all that – the reason it’s still incredibly popular and an iconic event in cinema for those who grew up at the right time to enjoy it is that it is a great example of perfect character-based story-telling, with conflict, resolution and awkward teenage romance. And that enduring popularity has seen the John Hughes classic finally released to Blu-ray this week. The genius of The Breakfast Club is that if someone asks what it’s about, it is almost...

Chicago – People Love “The Breakfast Club.” It seems to have even jumped generations. While it likely still appeals most strongly to those of us who were at or near the age of the characters on the film’s initial release, John Hughes’ comedy seems to speak to something timeless about the high school experience. The 25th anniversary edition of “The Breakfast Club” on Blu-ray should be a hit.
Blu-Ray Rating: 3.5/5.0
Considering that the special features on “The Breakfast Club” Blu-ray have been available before on the standard DVD (in the “Flashback Edition” released in 2008), the big question is whether or not that those who own the latest release need to bother with an upgrade merely for the video and audio offered by HD. Probably not. The HD video picture looks just okay. It’s a bit muted and the overall picture looks soft, like there’s Vaseline on the lens instead of a proper remastering.

It’s Thursday, so it’s time for another installment in the semiregular Dream Cast, in which we take a classic movie, TV show, or book, perferrably something with Xer appeal that we can either trash or have fun with, and cast a production or recast a hypothetical remake with actors working today. This week: a hypothetical remake of The Breakfast Club, the 1985 dramedy from writer-director John Hughes, in honor of his passing. (This week’s Dream Cast was suggested by Ken, though long before John Hughes died. If you have a suggestion for a show, movie, or book we could play Dream Cast with, feel free to email me.) It’s a seminal flick for Generation X: the one that threw representatives from all the cliques we all knew from high school into detention on a Saturday afternoon. And oh man, did John Hughes get it pretty close to right.

The late John Hughes defined film in the '80s, reinventing popular comedies with teen-oriented works like “The Breakfast Club” and “National Lampoon’s Vacation.” His mark on the medium is visible even today, with concepts he introduced still being used to make high schoolers more relatable and road trips funnier. The impact extends beyond subtextual nods. There are many filmmakers who appreciate his work so much that they turn to overt references.
Most recently in “The Hangover,” Zach Galifianakis’s Alan said “My dad loves this car more than me,” referencing the car he and his soon-to-be-hungover pals are driving to Las Vegas. It is a throwback to the classic “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” moment when Cameron says of his father’s vintage Ferrari: “My father loves this car more than life itself.” Ironically enough, both vehicles are subsequently destroyed when hijinx ensue.

Whether you're an avid John Hughes fan or a just a casual appreciator, there's no denying that the tragically deceased writer-director-producer penned some of the most unforgettably hilarious rants and one-liners ever utted on the big screen. Don't believe me? The following ten quotes provide better proof than I ever could. Just beware of the profanity, kids.
"Nothin' burps better than bacon."
- Ed O'Neill as Dutch, "Dutch"
"Pucker up, buttercup!"
- Jeffrey Jones as Principal Ed Rooney, "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"
"I tell you what I'm gonna give you, Snakes. I'm gonna give you to the count of 10 to get your ugly, yellow, no-good keister off my property before I pump your guts full of lead! One, two, ten!"
- Ralph Foody as Gangster Johnny, "Home Alone"
"I'm gonna knock your d-ck in the dirt."
- Paul Gleason as Principal Richard Vernon, "The Breakfast Club"
"The thing is, I'm kinda like the leader.

Forget film history, it's nearly impossible to imagine what the culture of the '80s and '90s would have looked like without the work of John Hughes. The writer-director-producer, who tragically passed away earlier today, is responsible for some of the most memorable characters in cinematic teenage lore, not to mention some very disgruntled heroes as well.
In his honor, I've compiled a list of my five personal favorite characters written by the late, great John Hughes.
John Bender ("The Breakfast Club"): There's no shortage of beloved miscreants in "The Breakfast Club," but John Bender decisively takes the crown for most memorable. Judd Nelson's portrayal as the smart-mouthed tough guy -- with an apparent proclivity for popular redheads -- is the shining spot in a movie filled with top notch performances from Anthony Michael Hall, Molly Ringwald and Paul Gleason.

I watched Morgan Stewart’s Coming Home a scant three days after I saw Adventureland, and I could not help but be struck by the similarities between the two. Both were aimed squarely at the teenagers of their times, both aim for some degree of profundity (though this means something really different to each set of filmmakers) and both feature a budding romance between a geeky young man and a free-spirited young woman. I was as surprised as anyone to find that I liked Stewart a whole hell of a lot more.
Jon Cryer, the man who spent the better part of his popularity trying to recreate the success of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (a film that he did not appear in), portrays Morgan Stewart, a young hellion who (according to the back of the box) has been kicked out of 10 prep schools in the past seven years. Paul Gleason Dies
American actor Paul Gleason has died of lung cancer. He was 67. The actor, who played Principal Richard Vernon in The Breakfast Club in 1985, passed away in a Burbank, California, hospital on Saturday of mesothelioma, a rare form of lung cancer linked to asbestos. His widow Susan Gleason says, "Whenever you were with Paul, there was never a dull moment. He was awesome." His daughter Shannon Gleason-grossman adds, "He was an athlete, an actor and a poet. He gave me and my sister a love that is beyond description that will be with us and keep us strong for the rest of our lives." The Florida-born actor started his acting career playing a ski resort guest in 1965 movie Winter A-Go-Go after training at the Actors Studio. During his career - which spanned five decades, Gleason starred in Die Hard, Trading Places and National Lampoon's Van Wilder. He also appeared in TV shows Dawson's Creek, Cold Case, Seinfeld, La Law and Lois & Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman. Gleason is survived by his wife, two daughters and a granddaughter.

Anthony Michael Hall: "We Lost Judd at MTV Awards"
Former Brat Pack star Anthony Michael Hall is still mystified about the whereabouts of his The Breakfast Club co-star Judd Nelson at last Saturday's MTV Movie Awards, because the actor never showed up to collect his award. The cast of the 1985 movie were honored at the event, but while moving from their seats to ones closer to the stage - just before they accepted the 20th anniversary award - they lost Nelson. Hall says, "I didn't see Judd all night. I have no idea where he was. I think he was there, he just never really made it to the front seat." Emilio Estevez was another member of the cast who failed to show onstage, but the stars' absence didn't stop Hall and castmates Ally Sheedy, Molly Ringwald and Paul Gleason from having fun. Hall reveals the old pals were bickering about who should say what onstage, when Ringwald blew him away with her breast confessions and he insisted she had to repeat it on TV. He recalls, "She said, 'I just had a baby and I fear that if I lean over (the mic) my t**s are gonna fall out.' I said, 'That's exactly what you have to say, ' and that's what she did."...
