Something special happened in Malibu on Saturday.
Global superstar Pink took a break from her record-setting Summer Carnival tour to hit the stage at a far more intimate venue than the arenas she’s been selling out in recent months by performing at Rock4EB! alongside singer-songwriter Dallas Green. The pair headlined the Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation’s annual fundraiser by performing as you + me, their onetime side project. The event, held at the hilltop home of Brillstein-Entertainment Partners leader Marc Gurvitz, was a star-packed affair set against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean, hosted once again by Judd Apatow and featuring a (savage) stand-up set by Jim Jefferies.
Special because of the elements. The guest list included Brad Pitt, Courteney Cox, Kaley Cuoco, Tom Pelphrey, Elizabeth Olsen, Charlie Hunnam, Damien Chazelle, Ed O’Neill, Jackson Browne, Kim Basinger, Mason Thames, Mckenna Grace, Aj Michalka, Aly Michalka and Catherine Bell,...

Today was a busy day for some of the smaller guilds with the Visual Effects Society, the Cinema Audio Society, and the Makeup and Hairstylists Guilds all announcing their nominations for 2013.
First, we have the Ves, whose main category to look at is “Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects-Driven Feature Motion Picture,” where we find Gravity and four other nominees that are just going to have to be happy with the fact that they got nominated. This is perhaps the easiest category to call in the entirety of awards season, and I don’t mean just here, but for the Oscar as well (Last year’s winner, Life of Pi, easily took this category before going on to claim the Oscar). It’s true that films like The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and Star Trek Into Darkness had outstanding effects as well, but nothing even came close to the amazing,...

New York -- Tony Bennett never forgot the first time he performed with Dave Brubeck more than half a century ago. But the tape of that memorable collaboration between two American jazz masters lay forgotten in a record label's vaults until its discovery by an archivist just weeks after Brubeck's death in December, and it's just been released as "Bennett/Brubeck: The White House Sessions, Live 1962."
President John F. Kennedy's White House made this jazz summit possible when it booked Brubeck and Bennett to perform at a concert on Aug. 28, 1962, for college-age summer interns. The crowd was so big that the concert had to be moved from the Rose Garden to an open-air theater at the base of the Washington Monument.
After Brubeck and Bennett each performed with their bands, the pianist came back on stage with his drummer Joe Morello and bassist Eugene Wright to accompany the singer...

Punk band Dropkick Murphys formed in Massachusetts in the '90s, long celebrating their love for the city of Boston with live albums nodding to Fenway Park and singles with names like "I'm Shipping Up to Boston" and "The State of Massachusetts." So when two explosions at this week's Boston Marathon injured dozens of victims, the band members mobilized, doing their part to help their beloved city.
Dropkick Murphys, made up of Ken Casey, Matt Kelly, Al Barr, James Lynch, Tim Brennan, Josh Wallace, and Jeff DaRosa, began marketing a "For Boston" t-shirt on their band's website, pledging all proceeds from the shirt sales to victims of the bombings, writing, "100 percent of all proceeds from this shirt will go directly to the victims and families of the Boston bombings." The band was able to reach $65,000 in the first 15 hours of sales, approaching the $100,000 mark soon after.

Experts sound off on the meaning behind the less-than-traditional name.
By James Montgomery

We've yet to receive an official confirmation on the name of Jay-z and Beyoncé's brand-new baby girl, who entered the world Saturday, though the consensus seems to be Blue Ivy Carter. And Monday (January 9), Jay released "Glory," featuring B.I.C., a new song dedicated to his daughter.
It's a less-than-traditional name, to be sure, but it's also one that holds plenty of significance to the proud parents, with "Blue" being a particular favorite of Jay's, and "Ivy" representing the Roman numeral IV for the couple's lucky number, four.
Then again, that's just our take on things, so while we wait for word from Jay and B, we figured we'd reach out to those who make baby names their business to get their reactions to the most-excellent moniker.

Pixies star Black Francis is to launch his rock opera "Bluefinger: The Fall and Rise of Herman Brood" in Houston, Texas in November. The cult indie rocker's latest venture will open at the The Catastrophic Theater and will be co-produced with leading members of the University of Houston School of Theater & Dance.
Bluefinger was inspired by the critically acclaimed 2007 Black Francis album of the same name. The concept album focuses entirely on the life and death of Herman Brood, a Dutch artist, rocker and junkie who leaped to his death from the roof of the Amsterdam Hilton in 2001.
Black Francis, however, will not appear on stage for the performance, Exclaim.ca reported. The roles of both Francis and Brood will be filled by Texas musician Michael Haaga and Matt Kelly respectively.
